Jeff Buckley For Christmas No.1!

I couldn't give a toss who wins, it's a song and that's it. If more important stuff in the world got as much attention as this seems to be getting I imagine a lot of starving children might be happy this christmas. How about instead of paying 79p for a hopless attempt to get a song to number one, you donate it to an actual worthy cause. I mean, 79p x 100,000 (Also, there is NO way it's reached 100,000 in the space of a week, look at the popularity bar on iTunes) = a lot of happy children.

Or you know...whatever. :heh:

Fuck You. I give plenty of my hard-earned cash to charity each month, if i want to buy a song with 79p of it then that's my choice. I like the song and didn't own it. I bought it because i wanted it, i bought it now because of the campaign.

If you're playing the charity card then i take it you give every spare penny to charity? Or are you being hypocritical?

I wasn't specifically aiming that comment at you, I merely quoted you to continue the discussion. So the "fuck you" comment? I love you too.

I'm merely saying I find it shocking that something as mundane as this gets so much attention, whereas there's no massive "campaigns"/big uproars or threads urging people to give money to kids in need at this time of year.

It wasn't a personal attack on you, and I wasn't saying that you don't do your bit for charity. You misunderstood my point completely.

Who are you so say what is and isn't important/serious?

Well I shall be downloading it as I should really own it anyway.

But I did just hear the X-Factor version and lordy it was awful. That kinda "unenthusiastic but lets pretend like I am" way of singing. Like if Dreamworks tried to do their own Disney film with songs in it. So bland and lifeless which I suppose comes from (if I am aware of the gameshow correctly) its because she didn't pick it.

And I gave £1 to a homeless person the other day, happy? :p

I like the Buckley version, dont give a shit about the X factor version either but this elitist bollocks everyone is coming up with at the moment is really starting to get on my tits.

Half the people moaning about this new one "ruining" the song are complaining because it ruined an episode of the OC for them. Can't you just ignore Radio 1 and not bother with the X factor version of the song? It's not offending anyone and Radio 1 is bollocks anyway.

To be honest, no. :heh:

You're far better off giving it to a charity where you know that the money will be going to something other than drugs or booze. If you want to give money to a homeless person buy them something to eat instead.

I'm with you. You're absolutely right. That people would spend 79p downloading a song just to try and make it number 1 is ridiculous when it could be put to better use. Obviously if said person wanted the song then its different, but if its purely to help a cause, then why this and not a charity?

I admit i find the number 1 race interesting, but i havn't bought either version because i dont want the song. But wow, 100,000 you say? Probably more by now. That's a lot of money a worthwhile charity could have had.

It wasn't near any eateries and he seemed a lot more humble than most homeless people. Seemed less likely to go waste it but who am I to judge anyway? We all waste money. And im more likely to buy a homeless persons dog some food and give the homeless person the change because I love animals more (and I think it is kinda cruel to the dogs).

The end perhaps, but the auditions are a treat for the eyes and the ears.

You mean at the start when you get all of the mostly truly terribles singers that crawl out of the woodwork and then when the judges are 50/50 on whether to let them in, they plead, beg and sob their way into the next round?

If you mean that then yeah it's quite sadistically enjoyable to watch at that point :heh: but the end songs that end up in the charts are always rubbish.

Hmm btw whens the deadline to download the Buckley version?

If you're hoping to stick two fingers up at the X Factor this isn't a particularly good way of doing it. Simon Cowell has not only said that the Jeff Buckley version is one of his favourite songs of all time but he owns the rights to all 3 versions of Hallilujah so this "protest" is actually plowing money directly into the pockets of the main architects of the show.

Plus to the casual observer Jeff Buckley getting to number two doesn't look like a backlash, it looks like the X Factor is so big that it's reignighted interest in a previous cover version of the X Factor single to the extent that that one rocketed up the charts in the wake of the final too.
