I agree with number 1, but I think number 10 should have been much higher.

Nevertheless, they were all rather good BGM. And it was easy to see why people liked those pieces, even though I had never heard some of them before.

If this doesn't have any Banjo music then I'll kill someone.

Edit: *Goes off to kill someone*

Also, what the hell was with number 8? Is that really it or did they forget to play the actual music?

I agree that 10 should be higher. I would also have put the Brinstar theme instead of the Super Metroid Theme. I would have suggested stuff like Mute City (or Big Blue) but it makes sense that they weren't there (so they could make a more varied list, rather than mainly Nintendo themes).

Also, they seemed to mention a few games that didn't actually contain the Number 1 theme. Although the theme is so good that you hear it in your mind while playing them anyway.

Missing the Kirby theme but it's understandable. I can see why ScrewAttack put the Metroid theme so high up but I personally thought it was..dull?

Most of that list is absolutely brilliant though

I enjoyed that, but thought it was a bit light on Sega and Capcom. I particularly agree with Sonic, Mario, Metroid and Zelda, but think Streets of Rage, Street Fighter II, Shinobi, Ghouls & Ghosts, Dragon Quest etc deserved to be there more than some of the others.

Number nine should have been higher! And that Metroid tune shouldn't have been there at all, sheesh, they could have had something truly great in there like F-Zero. I was glad to see the Final Fantasy prelude making the list- I wasn't expecting that one... nor the moon stage from Ducktales... or Duke! Three great inclusions that I wouldn't have thought they would have had.

They coulda put in the Great Mighty Poo song... :indeed:

Number 10 should've been so much higher...

Number 1 & 2, I agree completely. Super Mario Bros, too.

Number 9...Am I the only one who doesn't like that tune? I love DKC music, but K.Rool's theme does nothing for me.

They chose the perfect song for Final Fantasy...and the wrong one for Metroid. There are better ones, definately.

Ducktales was a nice surprise. I was never fond of Duke Nukem, though. Nor of Secret of Mana, but to each his own.

Also slightly disappointed to not see F-Zero or Fire Emblem music there, but it's understandable.

The absence of Castlevania, though... :shakehead

The 16 bit Zelda theme is still timeless (even with it's limited midi pallete.)

DKC...They mentioned Stickerbrush Symphony and Aquatic Ambience which is enough for me :p Winky's Walkway is another personal favourite. Too many "best evers" in that series alone! Gangplank Galleon was a bit of a strange choice (especially as it's quite 'niche' in the face of other DKC tracks.)

It was pretty spot on imo though. Would have love to have seen some Street Fighter music (Ken or Guiles stage) but Capcom got some recognition. It was a retro love in which is nice considering we now see fully orchestrated titles littering the gaming landscape.

Just a point: I hope Majoras Mask will FINALLY be recognised one day as housing some of Kondos best work. Song of Healing and Astral Observatory best most other Zelda moments.

Good watch though. Cheers for the linkage :D

Hmmm....I like the list, as I know that it would be very hard to make a top 10 with music. If you don't like it, I am sure you will find a selection of members on youtube who have their top 100 music or something :heh:

meh tertis or mario should be number 1

Damn, I forgot Tetris. Now that's timeless.

megaman number 2 ? the music is terrible its all nostalgia ha

...Not really. They're mostly awesome tunes, whose only flaw is the 8-bit quality.

But to each his own, I suppose.

I think that list was quite OK. But how come that none of the music from the MGS games is in there? Starfox? F-Zero?

I mean, my neighbour whose a rocker, and non gamer sometimes plays Big Blue or Mute City on his guitar just because he likes the sound. He even plays doctor Wiley some times.

I agree, I agree. I've always loved Guiles music in SF II! Kens is good, but Guile's was always better. I think while the music in Majora's Mask isn't as catchy as other memorable game tunes, its definitely some great work that sets the tone of the game and fits the mood really well.

DKCwise, I wouldn't have thought Gangplank Galleon was a niche tune...? It might not be played in any other levels in DKC, but... its worked in subtly in the opening levels of DKC 2, as you should know. :heh:

Good list, though I only knew like half the themes, please to see Megaman where it was, I swear Megaman music was like an early precursor to modern DnB or something! When I played the game recently(for the first time) the music just struck me as so awesomely done, and quite trancey sort of dancey, I could actually listen to that as music. Quite complex and very well made, given the limited range available to the developers. Of course, number 1 had to be number 1, it's a classic brilliance!

not zelda sigh..

megaman number 2 ? the music is terrible its all nostalgia ha

Dear Lord, if you didn't have Mario in your post, I'd go over there and kick you in the face (:P)

First, the Tetris theme is an old Russian song, 2nd Megaman music is fucking amazing, it has nothing to do with nostalgia. Okkusenman \o\

The only correct answer is indeed the Zelda theme, it's a genious tune that sounds good in all kinds of instruments, it's epic, sentimental, etc AND it was composed literally overnight because Nintendo didn't have the rights to Bolero which was going to be the main theme. How awesome is that?

It just ain't good enough, my friend. :heh:

Curiously it was also stolen from an old russian composer:

It's still awesome.
