canand Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Hundreds of workers who maintain Royal Mail buildings are to stage a three-day strike after union leaders complained of "draconian" changes to attendance patterns. More than 800 members of the Communication Workers Union will walk out from 6am this Tuesday, affecting the security and maintenance of sites, including mail centres. CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward accused employer Romec of taking a "draconian and completely unreasonable" attitude towards changing attendance patterns for technical staff. "This is yet another example of perverse management attitude in the business. Despite talks at Acas last week, Romec still wish to give managers the ability to compel individuals to attend at unsocial hours and on Saturdays. "This dispute could have a massive impact on the rest of the mail network next week as Royal Mail sites depend on these workers to maintain machinery and buildings. "We hope that Romec will change their attitude and engage in genuine talks which address the concerns of the workforce." CWU official Ray Ellis added: "We are very disappointed that talks broke down last week. "Taking three days of strike action clearly reflects staff's strength of feeling on this issue which threatens their social and family lives and earnings. "The CWU remains committed to obtaining an agreement which meets genuine customer requirements and gives members maximum flexibility. This must include proper reward for working weekends and unsocial hours and must have at its heart the voluntary principle: those who do not wish to commit to these hours must be properly protected." The union said it had not ruled out further strikes if the row is not settled. A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Royal Mail is confident that its letters services will be maintained should any industrial action by Romec go ahead and we are working closely with Romec to ensure backup services for the entire mail operation are maintained."

ReZourceman Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 So, service as usual then? Heh heh heh heh. So true.
Guest Jordan Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 The mail service us here is completely laughable... so 3 days wouldn't mean jack shit.
EEVILMURRAY Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I need my Predator Tank now! NO WAITING BULLSHIT.
ReZourceman Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Waitta minute...."To stage" three day strike... So they're not actually gonna do it?
Rummy Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Oh man no goddamn way! This better not be happening, I've bought stuff for my currently lonesome 360 and I want to fucking play! How tedious.
Babooo Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Dammit. I need to send a game, just made a sale on Ebay! Should I send it today or not? It'll be by recorded delivery????....
Pyxis Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Brilliant. I'm waiting for my Chinese HSK certificate... I've already been waiting for 4 months and cant wait anymore.
CoolFunkMan Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 FUCK! I pre-ordered Sonic Chronicles too. I hope I can still somehow get it on time...
rokhed00 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm not seeing any dates for the strike action.
Jimbob Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I see no dates either, so expect a strike anytime then. And it won't effect the service i recieve, good old dopey (thats his nickname) takes about 6 years to do one round, so 3 days won't be a bother.
ReZourceman Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 It says "Tuesday" in the post. Heh post.
Babooo Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Guys I wouldn't get worried yet. As mentioned before, they are just outlining the fact that they are planning to stage a strike. Haven't heard anything about this in the news.
flameboy Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 As long as they don't strike around the 7days when bioshock, LBP and Fallout 3 come out...
Raining_again Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I don't have any money to spend after the N-E meet. The postie can keep my bills. BRING ON THE STRIKE! ^____^
Rummy Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I believe the strike is by people working for some company that Royal Mail employs to do something, and they're mainly engineers anyway, and so there should not be any noticeable effects on the postal service, or something. I got my shit anyway, so I'm happy
tbird3 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Good call, Rummy. I work for RoMEC (yes, it is written correctly), and it is only the security (ie CCTV & alarms, and access control), and building maintenance that are out on strike. No posties, AFAIK, have come out in sympathy with us, even though we are in the sae union, so it won't affect our games- which is good, as I have just spent the last 3 days pounding Mercenaries on the 360.
