Dante Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 With weeks of hardware shortages behind it, a lower price point, a new hardware package, and a major Square Enix release, the Xbox 360 surged to the top of the console race for the week covering September 8 through September 14. Data provided by Enterbrain via Famitsu.com has the 360 at 28,681 units for the week. This was a major leap over the previous week, during which the system had managed just 843 units. The tracking period covers the September 11 release of a new 60 gigabyte 360 package. In addition to replacing the 20 gigabyte model, this new package drops the price down 5,000 yen to 29,800 yen. Microsoft simultaneously dropped the price of the Arcade and Elite systems to, respectively, 19,800 and 39,800 yen, and heavily promoted Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery, released the same day. Coinciding with the 360's surge, the Wii took somewhat of a downward turn, ending up with 27,057 units for the week. PS3 managed 8,050 units. All this worked to make the 360 the lead console platform for the first time since its launch. Total domestic system sales for the 360 have crossed the 717,275 unit mark, Entebrain also reported. The firm also reported first week sales of 86,708 units for Infinite Undiscovery. While not as high as first week sales of Tales of Vesperia, this is in the upper ranks of 360 software. Tellyn Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I thought the Japanese had some sort of morbid fear of Bill Gates.
Dante Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 I hope the Devil is enjoying the snow. Dont look like it.
Hellfire Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 What the hell? I can't believe it. Seriously. lol
Dan_Dare Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 and all because of (wait for it!) a piece of shit generic system exclusive JRPG! oh my gods the shock!
Dante Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 and all because of (wait for it!) a piece of shit generic system exclusive JRPG! oh my gods the shock! Have you played it then? Mircosoft are getting alot of JRPG in Japan with RPGs are important to japanese buys unlike Sony is banking on FPS more than RPGs. SCEJ hasn't produced anything and Square-Enix will have published 5 Xbox360 games before the end of this year.
BeerMonkey Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 thats one of the last things i was expecting to read this gen.

darksnowman Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 To rectify this, Nintendo need to stitch up some RPGs for the Wii! Its the end of the world as we know it...!

Hellfire Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 heard from nigh a dozen different people that it is, in fact, complete dick of the poorest order. I've heard it's mostly mediocre, but enjoyable for those who like classic JRPGs. Also, horrible VA. But, you know, exagerating is cool too. This of course won't last long, it's a one week spike, maybe it can last a little longer, but it's cool it shows a bigger market acceptance to western titles and since I personally prefer 360 to PS3 it's good to see this actually happening. Still, think it's a veeery weird spike.
Choze Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Sony and Nintendo are lucky 360 is getting crappy exclusive JRPG. IU is junk, luckily for them. MS's sales boost wont last long. Plus this was timed with a price cut. 360 Elite is already cheaper than the Wii in Asia. The new price cut just widens the gap.
Gizmo Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 DS = RPG King What happened to FF:CC:CB? It's name was too long. Every time they tried to print off the box art they ran out of ink. Eventually they gave up.
killer kirby Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 It's funny how big people take this. The fact still remains, M$ pulled out everything it could possibly could to make some sales. Look at what M$ did. A new game from square-Enix and the huge price cut on the system (As well as TOV) While you look at the Wii. Yet to have a price cut and then still not have released any games for a while on the Wii. You would expect the 360 to sell waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more in hardware. 360 only sold about 1000 more then the Wii.
Domstercool Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Watch as next week it falls down back to nothingness again, lol, just like that picture. DS = RPG King What happened to FF:CC:CB? Not long till the PS3 takes over though, Disgaea 3 hit and Valkyrie is out soon

Nintendo can't stay on a high forever though, they need to pay attention to things like this and keep on the ball with it, cos first it happens once, then twice, then thrice then keeps on happening again and again, more and more often, then it's gonna be Ninty trying desperately to snatch back consumers from MS!

Falcon_BlizZACK Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Meh, Shigeru Miyamoto and co are still pimping their Subarus and getting personal lapdances from Fillipino strippers...Its all good for them. I'm kinda happy this has happened though, Nintendo deserve the kick up the rectum.

Yeah, Bill Gates needed the money :P But I'm happy too, 360 deserved better sales in Japan, even though they failed to create a console that fuels Japanese demands, it's still a good one.
gaggle64 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Have you played it then? Does he have to? I have no idea what it's about but the name alone smells very strongly of some kind of young, feminine protagonist, teams up with a big a dude and a girl who is probably some kind of princess, magic towers and/or stones, steampunk, airships, romance, probably some kind subplot involving his parentage, so on and so forth. The moral of the story will be the power of friendship and/or love and/or believing in one's self.

James McGeachie Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 It annoys me how all those exclusive DS RPG's that are actually innovative in some ways and look unique and interesting for the system (Inazuma Eleven, Sigma Harmonics and Blue Dragon Plus on that list) sell like absolute shit in Japan because they have absolutely no interest in new hardcore ips nowadays, at least not on Nintendo systems anyway. On the other hand an upgraded port will sell fucking millions(DQ5). It just goes to show how utterly weird the DS' market is. Absolutely insane total sales of the system, yet software only sells if it's in a key franchise or is a casual game.
