There are strong rumours that the Wii will get a price cut soon. If they do cut the price it should happen soon, because Xmas is coming.
Zechs Merquise Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I think with a price cut and Wii Fit Plus, it could easily be another Nintendo Christmas.

mcj metroid Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Interesting spot. Wasn't Tetris made in Russia or did the concept just originate there...? well i didnt include that because i'm sure they are talking about the gameboy version developed by nintendo. edit: oh ya it actualy says that.. how can you call western gamers narrow-minded when every game on that list is published by a japanese publisher. sigh Edited September 27, 2009 by mcj metroid
Blue_Ninja0 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Well, back in the day there weren't as many western videogame software houses as there are today.

Well, back in the day there weren't as many western videogame software houses as there are today. True true but there are still some recent games that feature. Guess it just shows its difficult to make Western games become a success amongst the Japanese gaming audience.
Hero-of-Time Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Looks like the price cut has had an instant impact. Amazon must be very, very happy with the Wii. It's always been a big seller for them, and today they're seeing quite the surge. Thanks to the $50 price drop, Wii sales have rise 1,700% today alone. That has put the Wii right at the top of the video game charts.
Dante Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) ExciteBots sales increased over 50000% on Amazon! ExciteBots: Trick Racing with Wii Wheel Bundle by Nintendo 1. Ranking has gone up in the past 24 hours 50,862% Sales Rank in Video Games: 8 (was 4,077) Edit: Edited September 27, 2009 by Dante
Guest Captain Falcon Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 ExciteBots sales increased over 50000% on Amazon! It's $19.98 with the wheel and $38.99 on it's own... Given they charge you $9.49 for the wheel, if you can get $10 credit for the game on it's own, it's worth buying even if you're just for a spare wheel (though given how awful Mario Kart is with one, I'd fail to see why you'd want another).
mcj metroid Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 nintendo are truly foolish for not releasing excitebots here.

Zechs Merquise Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Looks like the price cut has had an instant impact. In worldwide totals, the PS3 was just 50,000 ahead of the Wii last week. When the price cut kicks in, that'll be that. Wii back on top. I should imagine the PS3 sales will drop another 50k this week and will level off just under the 360 sales.
dazzybee Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 No, Wii wii go crazy but I think the PS3 will continue ahead of the 360 all year
Zechs Merquise Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 No, Wii wii go crazy but I think the PS3 will continue ahead of the 360 all year Wait and see, next time you're up my neck of the woods I'll get the beers in if I'm wrong haha. Plus, if Microsoft acquire EA, that will lead to some interesting times...
Emasher Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I really doubt Microsoft will acquire EA. Acquiring them wouldn't make the licensed titles exclusive to the 360, as most of the licenses require the games to release on all consoles. So they would either have to sell the licenses to Activision, or Take Two, or whoever, or keep making Madden, Fifa, and Harry Potter for all consoles. The only games that would be effected would be games like Battlefield, Dead Space and Mirrors edge, which no doubt would become 360/PC exclusives. And those games alone wouldn't really make everyone run out and buy a 360. EA is loosing money at the moment. If MS can't make a profit from buying them, or make the 360 win the console war because of buying them, they aren't going to do it. In all honesty, I think the only reason the PS3 hasn't been doing that well had something to do with the price before. the invisible line between affordable and non affordable for most people is somewhere between $299 and $399, a lot more people can actually buy one now. Playstation is a huge name still, I really think the price is the only problem most people had with it.
Dante Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Nintendo Co Ltd (7974.OS) reported a 59 percent decline in first-half profit on Thursday, hurt by sluggish demand for its flagship Wii videogame console and the strong yen, and it slashed its full-year forecast. Nintendo, which faces stiff competition in the videogame market from Sony Corp (6758.T) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), said operating profit was 104.4 billion yen ($1.2 billion) in the April-September half, compared with 252.2 billion yen a year earlier. Nintendo cut its operating profit forecast for the year to March 2010 by nearly a quarter to 370 billion yen, ending a three-year run during which it booked a record profit on booming demand for its Wii console and DS portable device. That compares with an average estimate of 442.8 billion yen in a poll of 25 analysts by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Demand for Nintendo products like the Wii has cooled as rival Sony has bolstered its line-up of console games, and as Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) iPhone has become a popular platform for handheld games. Nintendo's earnings, like those of other Japanese exporters, have also been blunted by the stronger yen JPY=, which eats into overseas profits. Shares of Nintendo have declined about 28 percent so far this year, compared with a 14 percent rise in the Nikkei 225 .N225 share average. D_prOdigy Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Iwata speaks on Wii slump: "Wii has stalled. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become 'the next thing.' In the game market, once you've lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time. We decided that it would be difficult to sell enough to recover from the poor performance of the first half of the year. In order to reach it (20 million target), we'll have to move quite a large quantity, but it's a figure we released after having felt the momentum returning [based off the price drop]."
