Goron_3 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 but thats what im trying to say mario 64 didnt date much.. No it doesnt have an epic story or sometimes the missions dont make sense(blast a wall anyone?) yes its always between those 2 for me. Mario world was the best 2d one anyway:) SMW has A LOT more charm than SMB3 but there are some things about it that seem..rushed. I wasn't really surprised to hear Miyamoto admit he had rushed the game due to development time. SMB3 is the best 2d platformer out of the lot, but as an overall package SMW JUST beats it (it's the music and the spot on controls that win me over).

It's a very very hard choice.. I do love the item selection in 3 but worlds well feels more like a world as silly as that sounds. I prefer the cape to the tail as well. I combination of them both would be amazing. but yes world JUST beats it.. If wasnt too young at the time I can see why people would be disappointed with world being more of the same but as an overall game its just better I feel:)
Hellfire Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I haven't played PD in a while but isn't the framerate bad only in Multiplayer? Anyway, horrible list, I don't know which games I would put in my Top 10 it's kinda hard to "rate" games I haven't played in a long time. Where the hell is Deus Ex (although it's not a "pure" FPS)?
The Bard Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Counter op in PD was amazing with a friend. I still have fond memories of traveling on opposite elevators frantically trying to frag my mate (yeah...no homo eroticism there... As for framerate, I think that was only an issue if you played without the expantion pak, though. I actually made all the classic PD and GE levels on the map editor in Timesplitters 2. I'm getting an urge to go back to that game now actually...so many fun moments. Too few console FPS these days that don't tend to focus on the split screen shit anymore, which is a shame.
Hellfire Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Playing without... expansion pack? Why would someone do that? Yeah, it's a shame all that devs focus on is online, playing with people next to you is the real deal to me.
The Bard Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I mean, it makes sense in more "serious" FPS games, but TS2 was a party FPS, and there just doesn't seem to be enough of that kind of game around anymore. Also; yeah, you could play without the expansion pak, but only multiplayer. And it was soooo framy
Zell Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I had Perfect Dark for so long, but I didn't have the expansion pak (really quite expensive back in the day) so I could only play story around a mate's house. Around a year ago though, I bought an expansion pak off ebay on the cheap along with Majora's Mask and Donkey Kong 64. I have to say that PD improves on Goldeneye in every aspect. The great thing about TS2 is that it just feels like Perfect Dark on ecstasy. Those three games (Goldeneye, PD, TS2) were probably the best splitscreen FPS experiences I've ever had.
KKOB Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Such a stupidly F'd up list. What were they thinking?!?! Surely the best FPS ever isn't Goldeneye still?! W/e GT!
Ren of Heavens Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Wow, what a list. I understand the originality factor, but Wolf3D on the list and Goldeneye no. 1? That's just crazy. My top 10: 1. Half-Life 2 2. Doom 3. Halo 4. Half-Life 5. Goldeneye 6. Quake 7. Soldier of Fortune 8. Unreal Tournament 9. Duke Nukem 3D 10. Perfect Dark * Haven't played Bioshock or CoD4 yet
CoolFunkMan Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 completely agree. Also why is there no love for timesplitters:( a game i think is far superior to halo in most ways.(especially halo 1) Good point, how could I forget Timesplitters?! TS2 was brilliant, should have deffinitely also been on that list. Infact, my top 10... 1. Deus Ex 2. Half-Life 2 (inc. Episodes) 3. Unreal Tournamnet 4. Bioshock 5. Team Fortress 2 6. Timesplitters 2 7. Soldier of Fortune 8. Doom 9. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 10. Perfect Dark I know that Deus Ex is technically not an FPS, but I still think it's incredible! Too bad it hasn't aged that well though.
Zechs Merquise Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I loved the list because Goldeneye is Number one, where it should be
mcj metroid Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I loved the list because Goldeneye is Number one, where it should be goldeneye is great and all but they REALLY seem to be confusing innovation with overall quality here. Goldeneye is great but its been outclasses and is now horribly dated.. so no it isnt the best anymore. I couln't actually tell you what is It was a difficult list to compile i'd say.

Damn you... damn you to HELL!!! lol I respect what you're saying, but i disagree. I played Goldeneye to death and me and my mates enjoyed it so much. Everyone at my school was hooked on it and it had massive impact that lasts on still to this day. The only odd one was no Time Splitters in the list.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 I was just playing Perfect Dark this morning, and it's still as fun as it ever was. The multiplayer is where it really shines, Rare really went to town on this one. The way you can choose teams with the AI, choose which weapons appear on the level, the soundtrack. It's an amazing experience. I seriously pity anyone who didn't play this game. It's definitely one of my favourites.

ViPeR Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Perfect Dark + Friends + Bots >> Any online game. This man speaks the truth. Temple, laptop gun to the wall of the main room = Bot rape.

I played a lot of Goldeneye at my friends house! but that took over and although he had Perfect Dark he never played it when I was there! I got my N63 quite late on and didn't know whether it was any good or not at the time (I was 9/10) and Didn'tget many games for it.

I was lucky and got the 64 fairly early (the Xmas before OoT) Ahh...I remember that Xmas very well...I spent hours wondering around a Dam looking for some bungee rope.
