Vicar attacked by Muslims

Even If Religion didn't exist, there would still be absolute tosspots that beat people up for nothing.

Of course.

But religion allows for an "excuse", and as it has been mentioned already, governments are very scared of pointing fingers.

Ok, "England is a secularist society".

And if you dare pull the "it's been Christian for longer" card, I'll slap you and point out that we were Pagans for longer.

I stand corrected, good sir.

And I would never debate with a point as weak as 'its been Christian for longer', I assure you!

Who do these christians think they are coming in and killing all our pagans. I say we ban all religions. (Apart from Buddhism)

I'm a Christian, and I most certainly don't think that.

If the preist wasn't a preist this wouldn't of happened.

If the muslims weren't muslims this wouldn't of happened.

Conclusion ; Religion has no pros. Fact/

What the hell im sorry thats literally retarted. Sierously that has to be the most stupid thing ive ever seen written on the internet and I read neogaf.

I am a christian and have muslim friends we don't fight all the time yet we are different religions.

Christianity says you shouldn't attack other religions basically all religions do. These two indivdual muslims don't follow the Koran. This indivdual priest was just doing his job. Their community may have had problems.

If you were being sarcastic than I have taken the bait and well done. To be honest this is a complete waste of time even trying to defend religion at this place a story is posted about some poor vicar being attacked by two muslims and it decends into religion is shit yet again.

It would be like if I came into every thread like this and pointed out how martin luther king was a christian or many 19th century charities were started by christianity.

While there is some perverse logic behind your point. The reason for the attack was muslim religious nationalism against christianity. To use it and twist it to all religion is bad and ignore the millions of examples of the times were religion has done good is ignorant.

To the fish who I expect is reading this post getting ready to kill me. That quote you posted is simply untrue although I know its a fave of the atheist club.

Firstly it lacks any sense becuase atheits reject objective good and bad. But we will put that aside for a second. The problem really is that I could just as easily say money politics militant athiesm nationalism lust etc does that to and give you a load of examples. Christianity doesnt advocate the crusades or the god hates fags or any of that shit jesus was the complete opposite of that and people twist religion for their own means its basic stuff.

Anyway rant over its my bday tommorow and im going out tonight and frankly ive had enough of these threads so bash me all you like I doubt I will look here again. Im not having a go at anyone personally its just incredibly demoralising to have to trawl through thread after religious thread where a subject gets twisted into religion or christianity or islam sucks end of. I think I will just avoid these threads and this reply is way to long but yeh anyway thats my views I expect if j7 posts here he will be the only one who doesnt hate me lol and hes not a christian so go figure lol.

So what It allows for an excuse! Should we ban scientific research because at the end of the day it led to atom bombs, global warming etc.

The root of the problem is not religion.

I know that quote is a massive generalisation (communism, anyone?), but it sounds quite... I dunno, I would say nice, but it's really not. Yeah. Anyway...

I think this attack could have been avoided if the assailants weren't Muslim and the victim wasn't a Vicar. However, it's likely the attack would happen on someone else, as it is most probable that they chose him as a target because he was a priest of an alternative faith to theirs. The potential for them to assault someone, however, was likely there due to, as you say, underlying pre-existing issues, and they would have have attacked someone at some point if he wasn't there, as they're overly aggressive retarded fuckwits who seem to think the best way to deal with a problem is to beat the crap out of someone.

It seems community tensions, stupidity, and perhaps a dash of trying to "look cool" were the fuel, religious differences were just the spark.

I am a christian and have muslim friends we don't fight all the time yet we are different religions.

As I go to a Christian Foundation school, I obviously have many a Protestant Christian friend, and we tend not to fight over it, despite me and some of my other friends are atheist, agnostic, Catholic, and in one case, Hindu. When one of the more evangelist types comes out with an "evolution is rubbish" or "homosexuality is wrong" type statement, the more sciencey-types/secularist/humanist of my friends (myself included) will slam them, but most of the religion-related bickering is between the various evangelist denominations (ie Christchurch vs baptists).

But religion allows for an "excuse", and as it has been mentioned already, governments are very scared of pointing fingers.

Religion has a nasty habit of pulling the "it's my religion" trump card, which is, well, really, really, really frustrating.

For example. if you eat only Halal or Kosher, and say that you have to eat animals that have been killed while still conscious (and suffer terribly, being left to bleed to death), and you're only defence is that "it's my religion" then I will call you cruel, I will call you superstitious, and I will call you a sadist, as there is no physical difference in the meat between suddenly stunning an animal and then killing it quickly whilst it's unconscious, and slitting it's throat and letting it bleed to death in pain as it's still awake. Don't eat meat, fine, but don't eat it only if it's been killed in a really nasty way. That makes you a sadist. And a mean bastard.

Bloody hell, the small minded racist has come out in a few people posting here; based on absolutely zero facts - THIS IS THE FUCKING DAILY MAIL PEOPLE!!!!!! The Daily Mail is the biggest load of bullshit with zero credibility, a sensationalist right wing pile of fucking tripe!!!

I hate calling this a race crime any more than I hate it when a white person beats up a black person - it's all fucking sick and doesn't have anything to do with race; it's just violence either way!

The Racial/disability awareness trainer woman for the NHS in my local trust area (yes! how p.c has this world gotten?!) hates the Daily Mail.... Every.. fucking.. time.. we get trained she goes on about this article that isn't p.c enough for her.

She also said you shouldn't say "see ya!" to a blind person, or that you shouldn't say "I'll just run along here!" to someone that's in a wheelchair...

That's fine. As long as you respect others views, and at least understand why those views are there, we'll get along fine.

If a belief cannot be defended, why should it be respected?

If I say the moon is made of cheese, and say it's because a green hedgehog that lived in a kettle told me so, then you have every right to explain why that is stupid, stupid idea.

Exactly Fish. People get classified as mentally insane for having an "invisible friend". Yet call it religion and we have to respect their beliefs. Why don't they respect my beliefs and stop handing me shitty fliers in the street and knocking on my door and telling me that I'm going to hell? A religious kid once called me stupid when I said I believed in ghosts. Fucking hypocrite.

i also have never invaded iraq for oil.

oh, and i got into a disscussion with my lecturer about delusions and religion he says that under the DSM IV (psychological dissorder journal) religion would be seen as a delusion.

Of course it would. "Hello, I have an invisible friend. He's everywhere. He made everything. I talk to him at night and when I die I'm gonna go and live with him."
