Hero-of-Time Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 We all knew this was coming but it has happened very fast. This week marks a milestone for the Wii in Japan, and shows that the poor GameCube just wasn’t that loved by anyone. The Wii is at 4,025,356 unit sold (in 54 weeks), which beats the Cube’s total sales in that territory. It is an amazing feat, and an even more amazing turnaround for Nintendo in the console business. To put things in better perspective, the Wii has reached what the DS reached in 53.7 weeks…so the platform is doing very well indeed. Also just for the hell of it here are the sales numbers for last week in Japan DSL 165000 Wii 110000 Thats more like it PSP 88000 PS3 38000 PS2 15000 360 7800 1. WiiFit 153000 (407000) 2. Tales of Innocence 108000 3. Layton 2 101000 (409000) 4. Minna no Golf Portable 2 86000 5. Mario Party DS 81000 (602000) 6. Lost Oddysey 60000 7. Gundam G-Spirits 52000(283000) 8. Super Mario Galaxy 49000 (501000) 9. Power Pro Pocket 1010 47000 10. Winning Eleven 2008 PS2 44000(439000)
jammy2211 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Galaxy hit 500000 too, which is impressive albeit maybe disappointing. It's still on course to sell out Mario 64 or Sunshine in Japan though, albeit in a few years. I love it how there was a big thing about the PS3 outselling the Wii for a whole month, and now the amount it outsold it by has already been completely nullified. Journalist sensationalism is still all too present in todays gaming press.
Zelda_Rulez Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I certainly wasn't expecting it this fast, I was expecting it to be in the beginning of 2008 to be exact. But it's an amazing feat.
Dante Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Dont forget about NDS and PS2. Last week sales. 1. NDS - 124,627 | 116,694 | 6,278,504 | 20,284,183 2. WII - 74,764 | 54,362 | 3,025,786 | 3,945,429 3. PSP - 74,626 | 75,027 | 2,460,200 | 6,992,329 4. PS3 - 37,092 | 50,564 | 971,402 | 1,428,960 5. PS2 - 13,703 | 14,875 | 696,206 | 20,851,065
James McGeachie Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 For the record those sales figures are just rough estimates for now, I think anyway. There's usually estimates then specific figures afterwards.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 For the record those sales figures are just rough estimates for now, I think anyway. There's usually estimates then specific figures afterwards. Yeah, your right these are the early numbers but they are usually pretty close.
darksnowman Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 The poor Gamecube. It was just too hardcore in the end...! "Thees is ah noo baby. Like all babies, eet make a lorra noise." In reality, it was just too quiet and didn't attract enough attention, Shigsy got it wrong for once.
Ten10 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 The Gamecube lives on within the heart of the Wii so I can handle that. But the DS has done well to match the lifetime sales of the ps2. But then again not everyone needs their own ps2. But to enjoy games fully especially multiplayer ones everyone needs their own DS so I suppose its not all that amazing.
Shino Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 If you count broken PS2 units, its a bit more amazing.
Patch Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 And the PS2 has been out for longer. So it looks like Wii Fit is driving console sales somewhat.
Jimbob Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Good news for Nintendo, and some sales are thanks to the consistant advertising for the Wii, which Ninty lacked with the GC during it's lifetime. Still waiting for Wii consoles to be in steady supply in shops, but after a year of complete sell-outs i will be surprised if this happens soon.
philcollins Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 awesome news. although thats pretty much confirmation that gamecube flopped, i never knew it was that bad.
Zechs Merquise Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Wow, just a single year and it's outsold the Gamecube's lifetime sales. Now that is impressive. Also, good to see that the depressed Wii sales were just a blip and more down to the PS3 price cut than anything else.
DCK Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Also, the DS is nearing rapidly to outsell the PS2, which is probably an even more impressing feat.
Zechs Merquise Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Also, the DS is nearing rapidly to outsell the PS2, which is probably an even more impressing feat. Wow, now that is something. The DS is bigger than Godzilla!
AshMat Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 TERAZILLA... Maybe i took it one too far. Anyway that's crazy, what's more surprising to me is that the Gamecube really did that poorly.
Deathjam Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I know a couple of nintendo fanboys and even they did not get one (myself included) we always intended to get one, but just on the cheap after its death :P
