Sheikah Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 It is not meh, how much did you play? It's a lot more fun than gta, that's for sure, and to me felt very different to gta4 which I honestly didn't think was that great. Yet to find anyone who owns it who doesn't think it's great. Maybe rent it?
dwarf Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Can I just say that I didn't like the game and leave it at that? I played it for around an hour, and just generally didn't enjoy it much. The shooting mechanics in these Rockstar games suck balls honestly.
Daft Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Well since you half don't want a PS3 game, read a book.
dwarf Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I'm reading two books currently: Echo Burning & American Gangster. Still wouldn't mind a game though.
Daft Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I hate that 'kinda want a game' feeling. I now take it as a sign to not bother playing games, otherwise I just end up just playing something crap just for the sake of wasting time.

Just whittling the time away, having 5% enjoyment, 90% boredom 5% irritance. Mehhry. I guess I could socialise...? I seem to make money from it at least. Edited July 22, 2010 by dwarf

Aimless Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I'd suggest you sign up to LoveFilm or similar, dwarf. You should be able to get a month's free trial relatively easy and I find it a great remedy to that "kind of want to play something" feeling as you can add a load of games you're not too sure about to a list, wait and see what gets sent out and then play through it without the same sense of commitment as an actual purchase. For instance I wouldn't have bought NIER but I'm glad I rented it, as despite all its failings it's both bizarre and interesting. In fact I have '3 months for the price of 1' LoveFilm redemption code that I can't use and should still be valid. Combine that with the Unlimited & Games package — 2 discs at once, unlimited rentals each month — and you'd be able to get through a lot of games for £15. I know it's saved me loads of money in the long run.
Daft Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I think I might cancel my LoveFILM. I've pretty much run out of films to watch and games to play.
Aimless Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I tend to subscribe for a few months at a time, using that window to hoover up everything I've missed in the interim. It doesn't stop me buying games, just gives me a cheaper way to experience all the B grade games I wouldn't have bought, like the latest PoP or Singularity; enjoyable games, often with interesting ideas, that don't quite have the polish or longevity you'd like from a £35 purchase.
dwarf Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 @ Diag - Basically we play a lot of Poker. The thing is I'm not really a renter, I know free months of rentals is good but I like to be able to buy games and then sell them at break even or profit, or If I like it enough I'll keep it. The thing with rentals - I actually find not being committed to a game (i.e. not owning it) probably makes your experience with it less...important? I borrowed Bioshock and found it to be pretty lame, and I never bothered to complete it because I didn't feel I needed to. If I'd bought it I may have stuck with the thing and perhaps I may have appreciated it more. Also, I don't really want a steady stream of decent games, because that's what it'll devolve into. Unlike films, which largely feel unique to each other and at least have their own qualities, most games that are similar to the 'top-tier' games for me aren't worth bothering with. Eg. Dark Void is a good example, I just wouldn't try it because it's an average cover based shooter, that isn't as good as other shooters. So any suggestions would really have to be a fairly standout game, or a different one, something with high quality. Ya know?
Aimless Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Fair enough. Personally I like dabbling in all sorts as most games still have good ideas behind them or contributions to make, even if they aren't the best thing ever. I also complete every game I rent, so evidently the throwaway factor doesn't negatively affect me. I suppose I just like being knowledgeable of the bigger picture and experiencing things that didn't quite work out rather than, say, putting another 10 hours into an online game I already know I like. I'm not expecting to come across something with an overall quality comparable to Uncharted 2, but I will end up playing things that are far less conservative. Basically I don't see much point in going to the same restaurant each week and ordering the same thing. I'd rather take a chance elsewhere or pick a different menu option, otherwise I'll just get bored.
S.C.G Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 So I've recently acquired a PSP Go... what's the deal with signing into it etc? I have a PSN ID on my PS3, do I need to link it to my PS3 before I can use my ID with it? Are there any games on it that are y'know... worth downloading and are reasonably priced?

Since it's digital only, you need a PSN ID. Don't need to link to your PS3, but since it will have all your info like credit card, it just makes sense. Check out PSP Essentials.
ReZourceman Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 PSP Essentials = Disgaea and Disgaea 2, in that order.
Aimless Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Are there any games on it that are y'know... worth downloading and are reasonably priced? Assuming your machine is new, and European, you can download 10 full games for free. It's a surprisingly decent selection, too.
S.C.G Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 ^ Thanks Aimless, I was actualy wondering if I'd be able to partake in this offer - I'd seen the adverts on TV - but didn't know how the games were being allocated so I hadn't researched it yet, thanks for bringing it to my attention though, I've now donwloaded the theme and await my code... How long does it typically take? has anyone else recently taken advantage of this offer too?
Aimless Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 On the promotion page it says you'll typically have it within a week but should allow up to 30 days. I've no personal experience, though.
Nicktendo Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Assuming your machine is new, and European, you can download 10 full games for free. It's a surprisingly decent selection, too. This is great, is this offer on any new PSP go purchased between June 1 and September 30?
Sheikah Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Any PSP Go that hasn't been signed into a PSN account before April 1st this year, and the offer expires on September 30th.
Nicktendo Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) Well I've been looking at getting a new music player recently, so with this offer and a nice collection of videos and PSOne games on my PS3, I think it would be silly not to get one! Is £199.99 on Amazon the regular price for a new machine, or are there better deals to be had? Or £194.99 on Play marketplace with a £20 PSN card??? Edited July 28, 2010 by Nicktendo
Wesley Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I'm not trying to be a tool or cause any kind of fanboy type argument; BUT. If I were looking for a music device that also offered video and games... I would probably be looking at an iPod Touch...

If I were looking for a music device that also offered video and games... I would probably be looking at an iPod Touch... Yeah but, Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX. Yeah... :p Plus I REALLY f***ing hate Apple. I accept many, many people appreciate what they've contributed to the technology industry and I have lots of apple fans as friends. But on a personal note as an early adopter of the 30gb (4th gen) iPod, I was unimpressed. It broke 5 times in a year and eventually my warranty ran out and I was left with nothing Since then I've had a troublesome iPod video and iPhone 2.5g and in the end I just gave up. For me they release over-priced, (generally) low quality, unreliable goods. They seem to appeal well to the gadget geek demographic well and while I commend them for how they've pushed boundaries, the way the operate in terms of a business strategy pisses me off. 13 suicides in 6 months within their Chinese workforce to provide the West with overpriced goods. I'd rather just leave them and their products. No company is perfect, but for me, Apple are not a company I would like to have any of my money. Edited July 28, 2010 by Nicktendo
