They give away games for free every week to sway customers to switch from Steam to Epic. Everything from small indie games to big launches like this. It is still available, until the 23rd, so head on over to https://www.epicgames.com/, make an account and "buy" Just Cause 4 and Wheels of Aurelia
Happenstance Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Tempted to grab Industries of Titan. It’s a sci-fi city builder in early access at the moment on the Epic store that seems to be getting some buzz.
Dufniall Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Another for the bargain hunters. Total War: Shogun 2 is now free on Steam for a limited time. I haven't played a Total War game since Rome: Total War, so I'm curious to see how the series is now. I remember Rome: Total War being quite impressive with the giant amount of characters on-screen.
Sméagol Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Don't think my PC will run that. Don't think I ever played a game in the series, though I've always been interested in it. I remember the BBC gameshow where they had a team playing a modified Rome: total war haha.
Magnus Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Does anyone want to play Half-Life: Decay? I've been replaying the series recently, but my playthrough stalled when I got to Decay because I don't have anyone to play it with.
bob Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Tentatively thinking about buying a new laptop. I've managed to convince myself i need one, since I'm working from home a lot more, and my current one is now 6 years old.Problem is, i can't decide whether to go for something sleek and simple, or buy some ugly brutish slab that can play games.I should probably do the adult thing and buy something cheaper and functional, but.....
Happenstance Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Take a look at the gaming ones as well, they're not all ugly machines anymore with loads of lights etc. You might be able to get the best of both worlds.

This. There are quite a bunch of more sleek gaming laptops out there that don't look like a carnival. Or you could look into ones with a GTX1650 graphic cards for basic gaming, and you will probably find laptops targeted at content creators which also don't have a gamey look.
Scratch Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 If you're not planning on needing to move this computer around once it's set up, would it be worth considering going for a desktop rather than a laptop? Usually you can get better specs for your money with a desktop, so you might be able to get a little of the best of both worlds e.g. spending less money but gaining access to more higher spec requiring games. Just a thought! 1

Just a thought! [emoji4]I thought about that. I looked at getting a small form factor PC that would fit in my TV cabinet, but then I'd have to work in my living room rather than at at my dining room table, and the TV would be out of action whenever i needed to use it.I could probably get a pretty good gaming desktop + a cheap laptop for the same price as a gaming laptop though...however i think I'd appreciate the portability of the gaming laptop even if it's just moving it around my house.Decisions, decisions... 1

Basically now they have the Zephyrus (thin and light and I think these may have some overheating problems), Strix (which are a bit more bulky but have much better cooling) and TUF Gaming (which are mostly plastic budget ones, but cooling is okay and they're the cheapest). I was actually product manager for Asus notebooks up until two years ago haha. Back then I didn't receive many overheating complaints, but I don't know how it is now. 1

They look quite nice, but i guess the thinness is what gives you the heat problems! The Strix/TUF look more like a 17 year old's bedroom which is what I'm trying to avoid.I think i need to go away and have a good think about my budget as well. It's so easy to see it creep up when looking at graphics cards!
Dufniall Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I'm not sure how it is now with Zephyrus as they are going in the third generation, so you would think they have the overheating under control. But true, gaming notebooks get expensive very fast! Anything over a 2060 is creeping up to the €2000. Like @Happenstance said, you can buy quite a nifty PC for that money! You can also wait a bit longer, buy a cheap laptop and a Google Stadia subscription.
bob Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I decided on one of these in the end: The Razer Blade 15 I went for one with a pretty substantial graphics card (2060), as it should hopefully future proof it for a few years. It was really tempting to get the next one up (2070), but it was an extra £250 and I'm not sure I'd even be able to tell the difference. Now i have to wait until Wednesday like a chump. 4
Happenstance Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Nearly got one of those myself a few years ago. We should figure out at some point how many of us do quite a bit of PC gaming and if there’s anything we could all get together with to play.
Dufniall Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Nice one @bob, looks pretty clean for a gaming notebook! 1 hour ago, Happenstance said: We should figure out at some point how many of us do quite a bit of PC gaming and if there’s anything we could all get together with to play. I'd be up for that. What kind of PC games do you guys usually play in multiplayer? I usually prefer co-op over p2p because I mostly suck, but I'm open to all suggestions.
Happenstance Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I’m definitely more of a co-op gamer as well or even just stuff where we share a world.
ArtMediocre Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 I usually play FPS like CoD or BF, but I'm up for anything enjoyable if I can find time for it. I'm Norwegian though, so voice might be so-so
Happenstance Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 Played some of the Friday the 13th game today and thought it was pretty good. They’ve definitely nailed the tense and creepy atmosphere. I might have to try their Predator game when it comes down in price.
bob Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 New laptop arrived. Spent most of the day setting it up. Tried playing Borderlands 1 on max settings, and it was sooo smooth! Love it. Might try some VR tonight, and maybe The Witcher 3 if it downloads. 2
Happenstance Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 GTA V is currently free on the Epic Games Store. 1
Scratch Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Halo 2 dropped the other day or so. I already completed Reach and Halo 1's campaigns, so now I'm currently playing through Halo 2's campaign on legendary. This is my first time through Halo 2's campaign, so it's new to me. MAN it's tougher than Halo 1. Or perhaps I just have more experience with Halo 1. xD Anywho having a blast. The game drops a bit in FPS a bit for me sometimes on the anniversary graphics, which is disappointing since the game has way less complex graphics than Battlefield 4, and that runs at a solid 60 FPS on my PC. But it's not toooo often and I'm not an "EVERYTHING MUST RUN AT 9000 FPS AT ALL TIMES" guy. The graphics in the cutscenes are AMAZING. I actually just for a second thought one of the characters was an actual actor. The music's pretty darn good as well, really enjoyed some of the tracks in the game so far. The gameplay's great - well, it's Halo and I like Halo, so that makes sense. xD
