Just bought the standard. UK pricing is £5 and £10. The Deluxe edition doesn't give you much more;

Made Man Pack: Free access to in-game downloadable pack that lets players get behind the wheel of two different luxury automobiles modeled after classic cars from the period. In addition, Vito will look the part with two new “made man†suits, including a vintage tux.

Digital Art Book: Get to know the families of Empire Bay with a photo album-style Digital art book that takes fans through the artistic design process of the game.

Orchestral Soundtrack: Immerse yourself in Empire Bay’s symphonic masterpiece with the Mafia II score recorded by the Prague FILMHarmonic Orchestra.

Digital Map of Empire Bay: Get familiar with the neighborhoods and own the streets with the Digital map depicting the 10 square miles of Empire Bay and all the hangout spots.

Doesn't seem worth an extra fiver to me...

Isn't Mafia II meant to be duff?

Duff? I've no clue what that means.

As far as what I've heard Mafia II is pretty good.

I've heard that Mafia II is supposed to be average at best, so that's probably what Daft meant?

But I like that his post could mean anything we want.

I can see why people would consider it to be average from what I've played so far. Its no GTA IV, although, my first impressions are that its better than average.

And at this price, why not?

I loved Mafia II. A linear but well crafted story that kept you on the rails a bit more than your standard Rockstar sandbox title. But that was kind of a good thing, you didn't have to score all the jumps, deliver all the newspapers or shoot all the pigeons, you just wandered through a great looking New York Empire Bay and felt like a real part of it. Check out the demo fo' sho'.

But then, is likening the game to Duff Beer a good or a bad thing? We'll have to go to the beer thread in general chit chat and do some research.

The 'Duff' in 'Duff Beer' is meant to mean that it's no good. It's a parody of how bad most big name lagers are. He's calling the game duff, i.e. it's bad, not saying it's like a beer.

Not downloaded Mafia II yet, but I passed it over in the Christmas sale because I heard it was no good. Since then I've had plenty of people tell me it's a great game, and even better for a fiver. I guess it was just disappointing for those who bought it on release.

Of course no one's saying he's comparing the game to a beer. I think you missed the point of our conversation. :p

I just reinstalled it this evening after getting a copy free with my Shogun II preorder. Hasn't aged well, particularly if you play more modern TW games. I'd wait for the inevitable Medieval II deal that will be on, that one stands the test of time quite well and there's loads of great mods out for it. The engine is still a bit behind Empire, but it doesn't feel stone-age like Rome does.

I'm hoping Creative Assembly bring us Rome II next in all honesty, the first was cracking game for it's time and it's probably the most interesting TW era due to the variety of troops and tactics being fielded across Europe at the time. I was disappointed they didn't go with it over Shogun II tbh.

I decided to buy the full bundle considering how cheap it was. The total war series is something I've been meaning to play for a while, so this seems like a good opportunity.

I can honestly say, that Rift is a pretty fun MMO well worth playing. They're a little skimpy on their races. There are only 6 races, 3 to each faction, but what really shines is their class system. You pick the general archetypes Warrior Cleric Mage Rouge, but from there you end up picking 3 different subsets of that class. You can then divide points up between the 3 of them as you see fit. It's unique and can keep people from being identical in abilities. Right now the level cap is 50 so you can max out one soul and have 15 points left between the other 2, or never max out the one.

Also of note are the Rifts, they can open up "anywhere" and are basically group quests for everyone to participate in to try and close the rift. Similar to how Warhammer open quests worked, except those were on a timer and static (still fun as all get out though).

I just saw an advert for Rift that said "You're not in Azeroth any more." It's really funny that they would advertise an mmo with a byline referencing World of Warcraft, just goes to show that theres very little they can do to escape it.

Completed Mafia II last night. That. Shit. Was. Awesome! I've noticed a lot of people complain that it's not "open world" enough, but personally I'm glad. The freedom is there, but because there's sod all to do the world doesn't detract from the story. I loved it for not being Grand Theft Auto, it's an action game with a great story, great cut-scenes and great voice acting, not a world sim with a criminal slant. I'd feel a bit cheated if I paid £40 for it though, the game lasts roughly 8 hours with little to no reason to replay.

Anyhow, if it goes on sale at a fiver again I urge anyone interested to just buy it. You're unlikely to regret the purchase.

Weekend Deal, Darksiders 75%. If you haven't played this game yet people, go get it.

A word of warning though, it's extent of graphics options extends to 1280x720 and 1920x1080.

Mind you, it's still pretty well optimized, but try and be somewhere near the specs listed.
