Deathjam Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 AH skyrim and mods. Spent more time modding it that playing the damn game, still completed it though which is better than what i managed with oblivion.
Happenstance Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Skyrim was the only Elder Scrolls game I managed to complete. Tried Morrowind on the original Xbox and Oblivion on 360 but I could barely get into either. I think when I played Skyrim it just felt like more of an actual living world and I got sucked in. That was the PS3 version so its nice to go back to it on PC and mess around with all the mods while playing it again.
Deathjam Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Modding is like a game of it's own. How many can you fit into the game before you break said game. It's a massive juggling act. And @Happenstance totally understand what you mean about skyrim. I would probably be playing it now if I didn't have to start over with the mods.
nightwolf Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) I'd love to be able to run Skyrim like that - alas I think my graphics card needs an upgrade before I can do that (I'm on the 560 Ti). I finally upgraded my keyboard and mouse: and I was originally set on getting a razer mouse, no, determined. But a few friends had some of the mice suggested in the tech forums and I ended up really preferring the r.a.t 5. This is going from a Microsoft generic keyboard and a mouse that barely fit my hand. It is heavenly, it makes playing anything so much easier! Edited June 25, 2013 by nightwolf derp...hard
nightwolf Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 What the fuck? Is that a mouse or a Transformer? Haha, given I work on Transformers, it has been the butt of many a joke. It's a madcatz mouse, the brand is r.a.t. Its a really cool mouse in reality and allows you to adjust the weight and the length of it. Which is ideal for me as I'm very picky.
drahkon Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 adjust the weight and the length of it. Which is ideal for me as I'm very picky. Yes, second time I used that image today Seriously, though, that mouse looks uncomfortable and expensive. Don't think I'd be happy with it, but suit yourself :p I think I need a new PSU (?). My PC randomly freezes and shuts down. Then it won't start properly. The fans will run (two of them) but windows won't start up. I need to kind of 'jump-start' the PC. I'm serious. Have to switch it on and off with the switch on the PSU so it 'gains momentum' (well, don't know how to describe that ). Shame that I'll be out of a job come Friday and need money for university
Sméagol Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 The whole point of that mouse is to be comfortable. You can adjust everything. You can basically shape the mouse to fit your hand precisely. I don’t have experience with them though.
Happenstance Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Just finally got around to completing To The Moon. Such a great game which manages to be a nice journey through a man's memories, quite touching at time along with being funny as well.

I finally upgraded my keyboard and mouse: http://www.mwave.com.au/images/400/AB47485.jpg Smexy. If you're looking to upgrade the GPU, the Nvidia GTX760 just hit, and delivers great performance at a pretty good price.
nightwolf Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Smexy. If you're looking to upgrade the GPU, the Nvidia GTX760 just hit, and delivers great performance at a pretty good price. Indeed! I'm waiting til the end of the year, perhaps when I have more funds. @dr4hkon I was very against it myself, it looks incredibly uncomfortable, but actually, its pretty great!

Maybe if I ever get back into PC gaming, I'll consider getting one of them. But right now I'm happy to make my PC run so I can surf the internet -.-
Agent Gibbs Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 alright who here has modded SKyrim using ENB? i already have some really good texture packs on Skyrim as it is (not the best of screen shots, the image seems to be of poor resolution) Well i decided i could make it even more realistic and installed ENB and some configuration packs for it, and the terrain and sky and lighting were immense......but something went wrong with the water, it was stationary and mainly green. i removed all tonights work and the issue was still there, and somewhere along the line the W.A.T.E.R mod had gone wierd so i removed it in favour of a pure water mod, altering the field of view under water in the ini files and a green filter removing mod now my question i suppose is, do i re install ENB? as although it looked epic, my frame rate was between 19 and 30, where as normally i'm running between 30 and 60 (closer to 60)...do any of you have the ultra realistic mods on? is it playable like that or is it more for screen shots than performance

Everything you experienced is natural in that this causes that to go weird or that causes framerate drops. etc. Some of the water mods are dodgy. Be careful which one you use as one was notorious for corrupting game saves. IIRC When I installed ENB, my fps went from 60+ down to 20-40 so yeah that's natural. There are some that are less graphics intensive but you are going to have to look around in the comments section of the nexus forums to get the verdict on those. I havent touched skyrim in almost a year so I am a bit out of the loop, but it's surprising to see that some problems still persist. Back then, some mod combinations were recommended to only be turned on if your machine was a beast or you wanted to take pictures and that's it. If you don't, use a mod manager to install the mods and get them from the skyrimnexus as mods can conflict with each other causing serious issues, and mod managers back then handled this much better than the steam workshop.
Agent Gibbs Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 i'm using the mod managers, i learned that lesson back with fallout 3! it does seem some issues are extremely prevalent still, and half of the things i have seen only seem to work in specific situations, at this point i'm wondering if its worth adding any more really, it looks 10 times better than the console version, i've improved the deficient bits of the game and patched the broken bits, enb might be something i leave for quite some time as it seems several of the newer ENB mods state the current nVidia drivers don't even work with them, so i'm not downgrading drivers just to have extra fancy lens flair, darker but more realistically lit dungeons and grass that separates as i fart walking through it

Did all that I wanted to do, none of the mods fixed my main gripe with skyrim which was the combat, and so much work just to play a game. Still have it installed on my machine too :S EDIT: I really hope that bethesda look at their mod system and give it a revamp as it creates more stability issues on top of their own mistakes with their game engine. nightwolf Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Speaking of which - I'm going to grab a couple of hours on TF2. Any of you still play?
Nolan Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Sadly very rarely. It's just not the same as those days before hats.
Sméagol Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Speaking of which - I'm going to grab a couple of hours on TF2. Any of you still play? Not just for the tradingcards right? :p I’m too crap at it, and it’s not my favourite FPS, but I’m up for an N-E TF gamenight.

Haha, no definitely not. I find them amusing, but other than that I'm not interested. That'd be cool, I've been really missing co-op/multiplayer gaming with people I know recently.
Tales Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 The decision to buy a laptop with 128 mb graphic card to save money goes down as one my worst decisions ever. I cry at the thought of not being able to play Rome II.
