Dexter, the Showtime series based upon the Jeff Lindsay novel 'Darkly Dreaming Dexter' begins on FX at 10pm (about ten minutes away at the time of posting).

The show and book tell the story of Dexter Morgan, a forensics blood splatter analysist for the Miami-Dade Police Department whose stepfather (a police father for the MDPD) taught him to harness his natural anger and violence to kill people who deserved it; peadophiles, murders of innocents etc.

Its a good show that has some very dark humour. One of my favourite quotes is from the first episode:

"There’s something strange and disarming about looking at a homicide scene in the daylight of Miami. It makes the most grotesque killings look staged, like you’re in a new and daring section of Disney World: Dahmerland!"

Anyway. Its on FX at 10pm and repeated several times during the week: 22:00 - Tuesday, 1:05 - Wednesday, 23:00 - Friday

I strongly suggest it. (and yeah its more "manly" than Veronica Mars but I see a lot of similarities; isolation, living in your own head, a bleak outlook on the world etc)

Plus the opening is quite something. The way it shows how blood is such a part of Dexter's life (from the mosquito to the blood orange) and the somwhat unnerving upbeat 'ding' at the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpyJMfDhdN0

I have all the episodes of the first series sitting on my HDD atm just begging me to watch it. Problem being i also have Series 4 of Nip/Tuck and a bucket full of anime too. . .

Seems interesting, I hope they'll start showing it over here soon.

It is being shown here on FX-thats what this thread's about isn't it?

Dexter is only twelve episodes. Once you watch one you'll watch the rest within a week. Trust me.

No offence but it doesn't seem like much effort is put into creating a tv show anymore. Just sounds boring.

More effort than films...

Shrek 3, Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Harry Potter 5, Die Hard 4 and many many more coming to cinemas this summer! :indeed:

To me Dexter as a series is more striking, original and entertaining than any film in recent memory.

Ashley, you have your little obsessions don't you. Not that it is a bad thing, its just pretty clear when you like something, you should get into marketing.

I'm tempted to watch this but I don't have FX. To the internets.

Its why I don't touch drugs!

But nah seriously. I am passionate about certain things, yes. But I wouldn't do marketing because you wouldn't be able to chose what you market. Its like at work. I don't give a fuck about GameCare but I have to pretend I do.

I would agree.

End of September as best as I can recall off the top of my head.

The DVD comes out August 21st. Seeing as I land in America the next day I think that'll be my first (non essentials) purchase.

This show was on the TV here some weeks or months ago, very good show.

One of the few shows i bothered watching every episode of.

Also thinking about reading the book, got it lying around here somewhere

Dexter is the most refreshing piece of TV for years. as Ashley says, watch one ep and all 12 will be watched asap. I have just finished rewatching it, and have also recently read the 1st and 2nd books.

It is noteworthy not only because of the gripping storyline and good twists, but there is a level of character development that you just don't see in other shows. Just watcht eh first episode, and that should be enough to convince you to see the rest.

Lost

24

Life on Mars

CSI

...Apart from them you have a point....

Oh come on, the viewers have to put more effort into understanding Lost than the makers out in producing that tripe.

I did see episode 1 last night, very dark and funny, the black cop annoys the feck out of me though. He just needs shooting!

Lost is incredible, It's something different and I respect them for it...

Its something samey. At first it was unique, felt like it could be something big but then it all got too big for its boots. You could tell Lindoff and co feel as if its the best show ever and its just becoming tiresome.

Serialised drama has been going on for many years before Lost. They just made it mainstream.
