Daft Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Too much good stuff on there I'm giving Four Tet's 'Rounds' a download. My friend listens to him and I've always been meaning to have a listen.
chairdriver Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I'm preparing myself for Tegan and Sara's new release by reflecting on their past career. One of my favourite songs of theirs - the Back In Your Head Demo. The vocals are so much more emotional than the album version, which is really a totally different affair. I love the consistent guitar and drums in the demo version. I love The Con Demos in general - much better than the finished product IMO, although I love both. But then Relief Next To Me is the most stunning. Just the way Sara's voice peeks through towards the end, under Tegan's.
Daft Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Rounds is an amazing album. Just gave it a listen. Very enjoyable.

I can't figure out which Back in Your Head i love the most, album version, demo, RAC remix... And yeah, T&S are at their best when they harmonize... the live version of Fix You Up is stunning, particularly the 'what I figured out' lines. Ahh need the new album! -- Might have a go at doing my albums of the decade when I have some time. Pitchfork also have top 50 music videos of the decade which is a good article... I love the What's a Girl to do video by BFL, magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EICkZWEzFGE
S.C.G Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Todays listen? Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails it was the first time I'd listened to it on my recent player and it served only to further enhance the stunning quality of the album that's allready present. Everything about it is so finely tuned, perfectly paced and just generally fucking awesome one of my favourite NIN albums without a doubt.
Dan_Dare Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Rounds is an amazing album. Agreed. It's a lovely bit of work. Easily his most listenable, too. I found much of his other albums either alienating or just less enjoyable.
ipaul Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Holiday has already been released as a single. Dirtee Cash and Road Rage will also be released in the future as singles. The sample in Dirtee Cash is from a Stevie V song called Dirty Cash I think. (Warning: Another List) Anyone seen the Pitchfork Top 200 albums of the decade list? 191. Air - Talkie Walkie 156. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm 121. Broadcast - Haha Sound 101. Franz Ferdinand - S/T 81. Hot Chip - The Warning 71. Portishead - Third 34. Radiohead - Amnesiac 30. Boards of Canada - Geogaddi 21. Daft Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Come to think of it I'm surprised Azure Ray didn't get on that list. Great album.
S.C.G Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I can think of loads of albums that could go on that list and I can see a few on there allready that I look and think 'they put that on there?' it's an interesting list and better than the last one that was posted in this thread by miles, but still it is just a list and it's not as if everyones gonna agree with it so ultimately, what's the point? People like whatever music they are into and no amount of lists will change this, sure as a result some of the bands on there may be looked into but really... no one is gonna 100% agree with the entire list. -------------------------------------------- For what little it's worth, these are my personal highlights... 156. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm 134. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf 124. PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea 107. Justice - Cross 92. Bjork - Vespertine 83. Daft Punk - Discovery 01. Radiohead - Kid A Though I would have put Kayne West lower and not necessarilly the same albums, Joanna Newsom's YS higher plus Peej & Beej much higher... but that's just me, so disregard this post if you don't agree with it.

Daft Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 119. Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP I completely didn't see this. I love this album. I listen to it surprisingly regularly. So many great songs. 'Drug Ballad', 'Criminal' and all the big ones are excellent. I wonder if the Slim Shadly LP would have made it if it were in the decade. I definitely would have put it higher.
Molly Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Rain Dogs-Tom Waits Utterly bizarre. I just listened and I don't know how to feel about it yet. Few tracks I loved, like ''Clap Hands'', ''Union Square'', ''Anywhere I lay my head'' and others. I'm not sure about the circus sounding tracks, they almost scare me a bit. I do have a fear of clowns though. Need to listen again, really.
Paj! Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 ''Anywhere I lay my head'' . My favourite Scarlett Johansson song! : peace:

S.C.G Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Recently picked up Garbage (self titled) after really enjoying hearing Only Happy When It Rains a few weeks ago and having fond memories of Stupid Girl back in the day, I really love the whole album, very enjoyable indeed and perfect music for a Monday.
Dan_Dare Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I have the new Richard Hawley on order. Waiting for it is hard work.
Molly Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I really like Empire State of Mind, Jay Z and Alicia Keys. Is that bad? I don't care.
Slaggis Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I'm in love with Trash by The Whip. A friend of mine made me a mix of music that made her feel "Ghetto" whilst driving, and it's one of my favorites on the CD. -- I'm going through my iTunes and paying a song by every artist I have. Release Me came on, and I instantly remembered how much I adore literally everything about the song. Probably my favorite of the year if I think about it. The chorus is fantastic, and I just love the sense of urgency she has in her voice throughout. I'm so sad I've only heard it in a club once, it's fucking amazing to dance to.
dan-likes-trees Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 NEW TEGAM AND SARA SINGLE IS OUT!!!1111!!! God, Im turning into Stuwii, only Tegand and Sara are my Muse Audio That said, can't say Im a huge fan of this new one......
chairdriver Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) God, Im turning into Stuwii, only Tegand and Sara are my Muse Tegan and Sara are so good though, so it's fine. That said, can't say Im a huge fan of this new one...... Same. It's too rocky, and not as charming as any of the songs on The Con (probably because it has a structure as a song, where most of The Con is random bits you assume are verses, but can't be sure). Edited October 7, 2009 by chairdriver
Mr_Odwin Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 The new Lou Barlow album is up on Spotify, for those that care. Seems same old, say mould so far. But that's good.
