I suppose there's to many huge fanboys for it to fail.

If you take away those who lost interest in new stuff after Enterprise and Nemesis, then take away those who hate the idea of as re-imagination, you'll end up with a small figure.

Gary Sinise (SNEEEZE) as McCoy is a masterful stroke, imo.

I still can't see Damon being Kirk though. Also, who is going to play Scotty/Welshy?

Just because Sinise is a pr0 actor doesn't mean he's right for this role.

Damon as Kirk is bullshit.

So it's being made by the team behind lost

Oh. Well. Thank. God.

It's going to be shit then.

Make a Voyager movie Godammit.

Damon says he has no idea where these Kirk rumours have been coming from. If I was him I wouldn't touch this project with a barge pole anyway.

Anyway, just to reiterate: it's this kind of film making that makes me hate and despair for hummanity. Lets just paper over the last couple of movies and Scott Bakula and move on to something new, please?

It's a completely brand new team in charge.

It's got the guy in charge of Lost/MI3 running and directing it.

Fresh faces, fresh story.

Lovely CGI company making the visuals.

A bigger budget than the older ones (I think).

Semi-well known actors playing key roles.

Look at Batman Begins and Casino Royale, both refreshed film sagas that did well.

This will do well.

With a (sorta) younger cast then what the Trekkies are used to' date=' this could revitalise interest in the franchise, and perhaps steer it away from the cliched nerdy sci-fi pigeonholing it has become ever so prone to. As long as the effects are good.[/quote']

I think that's the aim.

From the looks of it, they are avoiding "big name" actors for the main crew - perhaps to leave a possibility of making a TV Show if it's successful.

Rumours suggest that there will be 2 "big name" actors - the villain and a minor character (possibly Christopher Pike). IGN say that Tom Cruise could possibly be Pike in the movie.
