Posted May 26, 2007 Just bought that TV myself =) Read on the deals forum that some people got a better model from that order... 1200:1 instead of 1000:1 and 6.5 ms instead of 8. Other people didn't though, so no way of knowing if we'll be one of the lucky ones or not til it arrives! I ordered with the cheapest delivery because I had it shipped to my parents house and won't be there for a while anyway I got the updated version. So far it seems very good. When I try and put the 360 onto 1360x768 there is a black line down one side of the screen for some reason. It's fine on the setting below that (1280x768 I think). This is going via VGA. The Wii looks very good via the GAME component cables. I should also say that it only has one headphone port-thing for the VGA cable so you'll need to use the adaptor it comes with. It's a tight fit but if you push it in hard enough it will go in... Just don't take it out again. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That price is the cheapest on the net by about £20, £80-£100 cheaper than places like Empire Direct and £200 cheaper than Comet! Gah! I was happy with the Samsung until i saw that! Mind you, we don't know broadcasted yet HDTV in the Netherlands, we still get our TV from a cable in the ground. Posted June 5, 2007 So I've been doing some more browsing. And I remembered Vizio had some nice TV's. (My friends has a 32" Vizio and I love it.) So I checked their site and they have a 47" 1080p LCD for for $1700. And there is a 42" 1080p LCD coming out soon as well. But both of 'em have really low Contrast Ratios. Is contrast ratio pretty important where it comes to quality? The Vizio ones have ratios of 1800:1 and the Samsung has a 10,000:1 ratio. Thats a big difference. Too tired to explain right now but the Samsung's real contrast ratio is nowhere near 10,000:1. Its more likely to be around the same as the Vizio. Posted June 23, 2007 I'm gonna be buying a TV in the next couple of weeks and it's soo tempting to blow loads of money on it I'm either going for a 26" or 32" and its between Samsung 26" R86 - £400 Panasonic 26" X70 - £580 Samsung 32" M86 - £600 Sony 32" D3000 - £800 now the only one of those tvs that doesn't have 100mhz support is the Samsung R87 and that's supposed to be a really good thing to have the 26" panny blows the samsung out the water on picture quality but it's only £20 cheaper than the 32" Samsung, then I think well if I'm going 32" I may got the whole hog the Sony 32 is supposed to be the best 32" LCD out there but it's costs match that claim :p argh decisions, decisions Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted June 24, 2007 You're basically looking for the same thing as me so i'll share some of stuff i've learned: The 32" Samsung M86 isn't really an M86 set. Theres no Superclear panel, the contrast ratio is lower than the other M86 sets and it isn't 1080p. Not many people have it because the 37" version is much better value for money. With the other sets you're looking at you may as well rule out the R87, it's nowhere near as good. If you're interested in that price bracket then it's worth waiting until July when the Toshiba 26C3030D is due out. Even if it turns out to be rubbish it will drive the price of the Samsung down a bit. The Panasonic is easily the second best set on the list but imo the finish is disappointing. Way to plasticy for something that costs around £600! I don't know a lot about the D3000, its far above what im willing to spend... You've got another couple of very good possibilities around the £600 mark: Toshiba 32WLT68 - £600. 720p panel, 100Hz technology, Onkyo (Japanese Hi-Fi Specialist) developed sound system, optional sub woofer. Supposed to be a really good set, im saving up the cash to buy one at the moment because the prices for it are a steal! Sharp RD2E - £650. Heard very good things about this set, might well be 2nd best around to the D3000. It's got connectivity problems though, as usual with Sharp sets you don't get a component input. Instead you get a Component-to-VGA adaptor allowing you to plug in to on or the other. Thats the only reason im getting the Tosh instead of this; i need 360 in VGA and Laptop in VGA Hope this helps you out a bit. Post is a bit of a mess, been adding bits here and there lol Im planning a trip to Empire Direct in Dudley next Sunday so i can see all (or most) of these sets. Will let you know what sort of impression i get EDIT: Completely forgot about the Philips PF9 series sets. Posted June 24, 2007 I know about the R87 being the worst of the 4 but I don't expect this set to ever be anything other than a TV for my bedroom, and it aint that bad a set, but I think that 100mhz is probably the way to go atm which is why I'm torn :P btw Empire Direct online have been doing a 10% discount the last couple of weeks, but it runs out on Monday well I've just sent John Lewis an email with several deals that I've asked them to price match here's hoping they agree at least one of them reason for using John Lewis? 5 year warranty as standard!
