motion Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 So OOA and OOS can be interchangeable? Doesn't make sense.
Dante Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Both OoA & OoS are set around the same time but it unknown which one come first.
Cube Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 One interesting thing to mention: Ganon gets the Trident of Power that he has in ALttP in 4SA.
motion Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Fraid not Dante... Ganon gets the Trident of Power in Four Swords Adventure, which he then uses in A Link to the Past. Also Oracle of Seasons and Ages take place at the same time in both timelines. Timeline A: MC, OOT, MM, LA, LOZ, AOL, FS, ALLTP, OOA Timeline B: MC, OOT, TP, WW, PH, OOS

They don't happen at the same time, they happen one immediately after the other, it doesn't matter which one comes first sine they have the same ending.

The theory here: http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2631 (in retrospective part 6) seems to think they take place at the same time in both timelines. They start exactly the same way and both deal with someone trying to resurrect Ganon.
Dante Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 1.LA follows after Alttp. 2.LOZ and AOL are set at the end of the timeline. 3.OoA & OoS are set together by a password system and one takes place immediately after the other. 4.Ganon does not know about Link in TP. 5.Ganon from FSA is a ancient demon reborn.

Cube Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 one thing I've just discovered - if you point the fairy at an enemy, then Z-Target, it targets the enemy that the Fairy is pointing at.

Jonwah Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 I hate the split timeline theory. It's probably true but I'd much rather believe there was one theory. Also, why all the strong belief that wind waker takes place right in the middle of the storyline? I don't personally understand where that was really hinted at. Except for PH obviously, and LA (with the intro and outro) and maybe possibly maybe slightly Zelda 1 and 2 since there's so much water everywhere. (Those two take place in two halves of the same map if I remember) And the Oracle games did take place one after the other in the same timeline, since you don't find out about ganondorf untill you've finished both the games when the two Witches (twinrova?) meet and give themselves as a sacrafice. That doesn't happen unless link has been involved in both adventures. I have a big essay somewhere of my own theories and stuff. Here 'tis. It's fully open for debate of course, and I haven't put a few games in yet. Creation of Hyrule, Golden Land & formation of Triforce. King located the triforce and ruled with it. King died and prince inherited one part of the triforce. Zelda I was sent to sleep by THE WIZARD. Triforce returned to the Golden Land. All races started looking for the triforce which turned into greed and began a war. One race (Twili) mastered magic and attempted to find the triforce with it. Link I was born and taken to the great deku tree. Godesses sealed the dangerous Twili in a parallel world via the twilight mirror. The War ended. Ocerina of Time with Link I and Zelda II Golden Land becomes the Dark world created by Ganondorf who is then sealed there. Majora's Mask with Link I Several generations pass, Link II and his uncle are decendants of Link I. Link II's uncle is aware of his heritage to an extent. Link To The Past with Link II and Zelda III The Dark world is destroyed. Sages/maidens attempt to execute Ganon but fail. Ganondorf is sent to the twilight realm instead. Twilight Princess with Link III and Zelda IV Ganondorf dies and peace follows. The Twili are forgotten about again. Ganon is revived somehow. Legend of Zelda with Link IV and Zelda V Ganon is killed again. Adenture of Link with Link IV and Zelda I Zelda I is woken. All princesses of Zelda's bloodline are still called Zelda, probably due to it becoming a tradition spanning hundreds of years now, Link's bloodline ends. (Zelda's continues) Ganon is revived using Link's blood. Ganon wages war on Hyrule who stand little chance. Godesses seal Hyrule underwater and scatter a handful of Hyrulians on mountain peaks; including Zelda's decendants. The Hyrulians' memories are made vague and any memory of previous events become merely legend/myth. Recollections of 'old hyrule' geomitry are forgotten etc. Ganondorf escapes Old Hyrule and begins searching for Zelda. Wind Waker with Link V and Zelda VI Hyrule is completely covered in water and Ganondorf is frozen in stone by the Master Sword. Link's Awakening with Link V

Instead of stating, why don't you explain... 1. explain. 2. explain. 3. explain. why do they take place one after the other. 4. we don't know that. 5. so? 1. In LA's game booklet it says after Link's adventure in alttp, Link trains abroad but as he sails back to Hyrule, he become shipwrecked in a violent storm. 2. No Master Sword because it was layed to rest in alttp and Ganon dies forever. 3. Because the games become linked together to make the storyline but it unknown which come first. 4. Well Ganon sure dont act the same way to WW Link. 5. Ganondorf before obtaining his trident and becoming the pig-like beast Ganon a ancient demon reborn also in the game is a legend about a mirror that sends people to another world. Which could be hinting about TP. Also, why all the strong belief that wind waker takes place right in the middle of the storyline? I don't personally understand where that was really hinted at. Zelda:WW Opening: This is but one of the legends of which the people speak... Long ago, there existed a kingdom where a golden power lay hidden. It was a prosperous land blessed with green forests, tall mountains, and peace. But one day, a man of great evil found the golden power and took it for himself. With its strength at his command, he spread darkness across the kingdom. But then, when all hope had died, and the hour of doom seemed at hand... a young boy clothed in green appeared as if from nowhere. Wielding the blade of evil’s bane, he sealed the dark one away and gave the land light. This boy, who traveled through time to save the land, was known as the Hero of Time. The boy’s tale was passed down through generations until it became legend... But then... a day came when a fell wind began to blow across the kingdom. The great evil that all thought had been forever sealed by the hero... once again crept forth from the depths of the earth eager to resume its dark designs. The people believed that the Hero of Time would again come to save them... But the hero did not appear. Faced by an onslaught of evil, the people could do nothing but appeal to the gods. In their last hours, as doom drew nigh, they left their future in the hands of fate. What became of that kingdom? None remained who knew. The memory of the kingdom vanished, but its legend survived on the wind’s breath. On a certain island, it became customary to garb boys in green when they came of age. Clothed in the green of fields, they aspired to find heroic blades and cast down evil. The elders wished only for the youths to know courage like the hero of legend. Gamepro: Where does The Wind Waker fit into the overall Zelda series timeline? Aonuma: You can think of this game as taking place hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time. You can tell this from the opening story, and there are references to things from Ocarina located throughout the game as well.
Jonwah Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 The Hero Of Time story is told because it was the one that everyone remembers. I'm quite sure that the people don't remember very much of life before the flood except for a few myths. I'm just guessing here but OoT's story has become a centre point of zelda games. And it has been referenced in MM WW TP and probably the ones I haven't played inbetween. I peronsally don't think the 'ancient legend' told at the start of the story means it takes place before any of the other games. I think people just forgot about any other incarnations of link. Link himself isn't well known publicly in a lot of games. I think that was brought out a lot in TP for example. I think the bit at the end of the story is what happened just before the flooding, but a long long long time after the story of the hero of time.... Again, no idea who's right and wrong. Not until Nintendo actually stand up and say "haha there isn't actually a timeline at all!"

I hate the split timeline theory. It's probably true but I'd much rather believe there was one theory. I hate the split timeline theory too but it makes sense and Aonuma has gone on record saying that it splits off after Ocarina of Time. Basically there are theories everywhere. The only certainties are: Ocarina of Time > Majora's Mask (young link sent back in time) > (...) > Wind Waker > Phantom Hourglass Legend of Zelda > Adventures of Link Twilight Princess could be anywhere.
Chuck Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 oracle of ages - travel back and forth in time to save the world (never actually completed as i was a wee kiddy)
Jay Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Some games in the timeline are linked, thats clear, its just the overall placing in a timeline thats all over the place. Minish Cap and Four Swords/Four Swords Adventure are clearly linked by storyline. Given that the end of FSA links to LttP (which in turn leads on to Links Awakening) we can assume that they are all connected Minish Cap - Four Swords/Adventure - LttP - Links Awakening We also know that Ocarina and Majoras Mask are linked to each other chronologically. Nintendo said that Twilight Princess was set after OoT (and their are references to OoT) and we know that Wind Waker is. So assuming that the split timeline theory is rubbish then we can safely link those together. We also know that the forthcoming Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequel to Wind Waker. Ocarina - Majoras Mask - Twilight Princes - Wind Waker - Phantom Hourglass We also know (as with most of these cases, from the manual) that Zelda 1 and 2 take place in the same timline. Zelda 1 - Zelda 2 According to the manuals and the designers the oracles games took place one after the other, not in individual timelines but that the order doesn't matter. Oracle of Ages - Oracle of Seasons The question is, where do those four timelines fit in together. Here's my theory... Minish & FS/FSA are for me the starting points in the series and they hint at this themselves, FSA is the first appearance of Ganon and he gets the triforce of power which is used in Link to the Past. After Link to the Past link leaves Hyrule which is now safe and goes to train, his boat is shipwrecked and in my versions of events he never finds his way back to Hyrule which I believe was hinted at by Ninty at some point but don't quote me on that. Then many years later Ganon, who has returned in the form of Ganondorf appears and OoT begins. He of course ultimately returns to his form of Ganon at the end of the game and is defeated and sealed away. Link then leaves Hyrule and ends up in Termina for the events of Majora's Mask and never returns to Hyrule. Many years later in a much changed Hyrule the events of TP take place and the world is returned to peace. However Ganondorf eventually returns and wreaks havoc on Hyrule who pray for the hero of time (the only hero they were really aware of) to save them, he never appears nor does another hero and Hyrule is flooded. Wind Waker happens and that Link defeats Ganondorf before leaving to search for new lands. This is for me where the rest of the games come in - Link finds new lands in PH and the Oracles of games and in the Oracles games finds people trying to resurrect Ganon. Ultimately despite his efforts Ganon is resurrected and Hyrule is unflooded, leaving it a mess of a land, savaged by beasts. Link saves this land and then goes to wake Zelda in Zelda 2. The Link from WW could be that same Link, simply grown up or a new one. Thats my theory anyway.

BGS Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Does there need to be a timeline for the Zelda games? I mean, the stories are usually fairly shallow compared to many RPG's. Can't we just say "hey, they're all just different games based in the same, similar world but they don't really interlock with each other - they don't have to, they're only games" Because to be honest, whatever Nintendo say now, they never planned a massive timeline behind the Zelda series in the beginning. Just all these arguments about the timelines of the games seem so silly! Maybe it's just me.

THE ganondorflol Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 You're an idiot. froztyman: good theory. A good theory has been put forward by gametrailers.com in their 6 part retrospective. In chronological order: Minish Cap Ocarina of Time (the the timeline splits in two. Timeline A: the one before the 7 year period where Link is sent back to by Zelda after beating Ganon and Timeline B: after the 7 year period/Link defeats Ganon/Link is sent back ie: no hero of time) Timeline A: Majora's Mask (since Link is a child in it) Link's Awakening LOZ AOL A Link to the Past Oracle of Ages Timeline B: Wind Waker Oracle of Seasons Since the retrospective was done before Twilight Princess was released they hadn't placed it anywhere but suggested it could be before Wind Waker, with Phantom Hourglass after Wind Waker. Obviously there would be many different heroes: Hero of Time, Hero of Winds, Hero of Twilight etc... I'm sorry mate, I only just found out and am not an idiot. I also think that the timeline is stupid, as it doesn't affect my gaming at all... But you' re only trying to stir things up- I'm right, aren't I? (By the by mc was definetly first)

THE ganondorflol Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Thanks for them Dante. Also guys try keep the peace when on about the Zelda timeline. No need to flame each other if people have a different idea about what happened when. I agree. There is no need to get into an argument just if someone has a different theory, and that is coming from a big M. I agree with gametrailers. Those guys rule.
solitanze Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 just finished the game and loved every part of it. took me 41 hours to do. best zelda game? definatly, in my opinion. 100% including all Quiver, Wallet and Bomb Bag Upgrades, All 45 or so heart pieces, all 60 poes, 24 insects, completion of Cave of Ordeals, All 4 Bottles, Magic Armour sidequest, All 7 Hidden Sword Moves etc? On a side note, how many people here BEAT (NOT 100%, MAIN QUEST ONLY) this game without the use of a guide at all?
