  1. That article comes across as a load of bunk. It's probably a matter of someone trying to stir up some fake rumours in order to pile on more pressure for them to go mobile. Quite frankly it doesn't make any sense if you really think about it. If you look at the evolution of Nintendo's Board of Directors, you'll notice that the BOD is very tightly knit and very close to Iwata. Not only is there no scope for a coup (given that Iwata has full control over everyone who was brought in in recent years), but there would also be no real desire to either; I mean, why would Genyo Takeda (a man who has made his entire professional career off of designing and leading the development of dedicated gaming hardware) suddenly be so eager to want to throw away his own hard earned legacy? He doesn't even own that many shares - like the rest of the board outside Iwata - so there isn't even a monitory incentive here either! Likewise, why would Shigeru Miyamoto want to go against everything he personally stands for and dump the idea of making quality software and jump into making mobile scam games? It doesn't make sense; these guys are gunning for even more dedicated hardware in the form of QOL after all! And that part about Iwata supposedly still being involved in software development behind everyone's back doesn't make sense either, considering that he just recently gave up control over Nintendo SPD to Shinya Takahashi when he became CEO of NOA last year. He wouldn't even have time to spare to do so! And a rejection of download games replacing physical media? Really!? Coming from the company that has done nothing but push download versions of games ahead of physical at every opportunity since 2012? LOL! Not to mention that the idea of Iwata being seen as an outsider since he came from HAL... Bit late there for those kinds of theories, considering that he's been president of Nintendo for over a decade now... The people who may have rejected him on those grounds are long gone at this point! Everyone on the BOD has been elected by his hand after all! Hell, his closest group on the BOD have been personal friends of his since the earliest days of the NES era! Of all reasons to reject him, it wouldn't be because he originated from HAL.
  2. It's such a ridiculously situational card though! It's great if you can combine it with Aerodactl, but outside of those very rare moments, it's basically useless
  3. The biggest problem with the N64 games were their ridiculous save systems (something which would actually be rectified by a Wii U VC release funnily enough!). The levels were far too long and convoluted to have such sparse save points. The first two games were actually very forward thinking for their time; in many ways they laid the groundwork for the Metroid Prime series (which is oddly fitting, considering that Retro initially consisted of most of the staff behind Turok 1 & 2 - most of them ended up leaving before Prime 1's development started proper, but a good few like Mark Pachini were kept on), what with their open ended environments, focus on exploration and light platforming, boss battles and they even share a lot of the same subtle touches (like being able to shoot birds out of the sky, tricking enemies into killing each other etc). I'd love to see them hit the VC. Not only could it fix the framerate problems, but we could finally play them without those ridiculously spartan save points!
  4. Depends on whether or not the MK8 DLC would be ready in time or not... Still, I have to imagine that they have some kind of backup plan in place here (and the MK8 Amiibo DLC is the most logical component of that backup plan)... SURELY they must!? Hell, if worst comes to the worst and desperation kicks in, they could always release the Amiibo toys by themselves... before the actual game content is ready...
  5. To be fair, Bayonetta 2 IS coming out on September 20th in Japan, so October should be a lock for us... but yeah... That lineup is looking pretty dismal now. Somehow they've actually managed to have an even worse lineup than last year! I'm gonna end up having to play DKCTF in place of Captain Toad and pretend it came out in November, just to fill the gap
  6. Yeah, according to the wiki for Valiant Comics (the creators of the 1990's rebooted Turok comic book series - who licensed the character from its original owners), they bought back the rights to all of their comic boom series after Acclaim went bust - but the rights to Turok reverted to Classic Media; who had previously bought the IP catalogue of Western Publishing/Golden Book Comics (who were the original creators of the Turok character and the first run of comics) Western Publishing's IP catalogue was then subsequently purchased by Classic Media, who were then themselves bought by Dreamworks Animation in 2012... So it seems that a release would rightfully come down to the guys in charge at Dreamworks... But they're probably looking for some support to get the ball rolling internally.
  7. Why is everyone ignoring the fact that there is still some form of online multiplayer? Why not wait and see what kind of online multi IS actually in the game before dismissing it outright?
  8. NOE put out a reason for Captain Toad's delay... ... and it's pretty much exactly what I was expecting to hear... It's DK Tropical Freeze all over again... Expect Q1 2015 to be totally barren in that case (unless Smash Wii U gets delayed, which I still think is a very strong possibility...)
  9. Supposedly there's a separate online multiplayer mode that happens to not be the standard co-op...
  10. Oh finally! They're showing other game modes! Target Blast sounds fun
  11. Not if you already own a PS3 or a 360, in which case... There isn't much available that isn't also available on last gen consoles. Regardless, Iun didn't specify that he was buying a Wii U instead of a PS3/4, or a 369/Xbone. No, he was asking reasons for or against buying one on its own merits outright. The massive list of exclusives on Wii U is more than reason enough to buy one, regardless of whether or not it's getting multiplat games like Destiny.
  12. Who cares? Iun doesn't have to buy JUST a Wii U you know... Plus Destiny is gonna be available on both current AND last gen consoles (and the same applies to almost every single currently available and upcoming multiplatform game for both PS4 and Xbone), not to mention PC for the most part. There's a very good chance that he already owns a console/gaming PC that will be able to play the vast majority of available and upcoming multiplatform games anyway. You have plenty of choices if you want those games (and the experience is largely the same on all 4 platforms barring resolution/a few graphical embellishments). You can't say the same for the army of exclusive titles on Wii U...
  13. Yup! All that and Redshell actually even missed out a lot of Wii U exclusives (both available now and upcoming) from that list! Here's even more... Hell even if you don't add the missing games to Redshell's list, there are still more exclusives there than there are (available now and upcoming) for both PS4 and Xbone combined! And that's even without getting into the massive army of classic titles available on Virtual Console, including many games that are being released in Europe for the first time (Earthbound, Romance of the Four Kingdoms: Wall of Fire, Mega Man 6 etc) as well as most games being released in the original 60hz speed in Europe for the first time too! If you're a fan of good games, you simply can't afford to NOT own a Wii U!
  14. That makes no sense. CTTT and Smash 4 are being made by completely different teams and CTTT will have almost no text to speak of, so localisation isn't going to be the limiting factor here. The CTTT delay in Europe is either purely tactical (to fill a gap in the release schedule) or indicative of a delay to come for all the other regions too...
  15. Wii U is doing pretty well all things considered. MK8 has had an obvious impact, with the Wii U hardware jumping nearly 300% yoy (0.16 million to 0.51 million). Speaking of which, MK8's sales are simply insane considering the small Wii U userbase (2.82 million in its first month - a 42.2% attach rate in just one month is madness!) Of course you have to chalk a big part of that down to the free game promotion, but still! (yeah it's still far from fantastic, but the impact is palpable... too bad that they're not gonna be able to maintain the momentum for long with the lack of new releases in the coming months) Shame that those are the only real bright spots in this financial report though... 3DS is sinking like a stone What is important to note though is that the actual hardware sales here for both consoles seem to have outstripped the shipments (going by some numbers thrown around on GAF... ... it seems that they've still been getting through the massive channel stuffing that they did during last year's Xmas season; so actual 3DS hardware sales are gonna be higher than what they look like here at least.
  16. Cause Nintendo have never had massive delays for games that they've been banking on before... Either they release the game unfinished and fix it later with patches (which they desperately don't want to do), or it gets pushed back till next year. The game doesn't look ready for primetime, going by its recent demo showings (bugs and nasty glitches a plenty) and I can't feasibly see them having it ready in time when the 3DS version had to be pushed back already and is also so close to the Xmas season itself... That being said, I can't see why Captain Toad would be delayed for just Europe alone... There can't be that much text to translate here... Either they're using it to plug a gap in Europe specifically, or a delay in other regions is to follow...
  17. Well that leaves us with sweet FA other than Smash for the Xmas season then... And when that gets delayed... oh dear...
  18. Woah! That's just plain strange. Have you tried emailing Nintendo? I wouldn't even know where to begin about this one... Maybe it'll fix itself later on?
  19. Now this IS interesting... This is pretty much the route that I was expecting Microsoft to take with the Xbone from day 1; to try and turn gaming into cable television, where players would subscribe to each publisher's catalogue and receive the right to play the games that they release while they subscribe - instead of having to buy each game separately. Surprising that it took this long for MS to make it a reality. Not surprising that EA is the first to jump into this scheme with MS though. This could change the landscape of gaming forever; truly defining the notion of Games-As-A-Service. It could even become the sole future of delivering future content in the distant (and perhaps dystopian) future... I'm sure that that is what EA and MS would love to happen... The idea of their games delivering a constant endless revenue stream? That's the holy grail for them! It all depends on the execution though. The price seems right to make it happen, but it depends on how quickly and often they add games to the vault and what kind of rotations/restrictions are involved...
  20. I agree with the general sentiment here, but I wouldn't necessarily say that gen 6 was the best for 3rd party games... In general it ties into the rise and fall of specific developers really. Square used to be an RPG powerhouse to end all RPG powerhouses, but went through a steady decline after hitting their peak during the 16 bit era (falling into a nose dive towards the end of gen 6-start of gen 7. Likewise this is also the same fate that befell Konami, with Metal Gear and their handheld efforts comprising their only noteworthy output once gen 7 started. Capcom is a weird one though, because I feel that they've been a company of two halves. They were always mostly an arcade-first developer (barring some notable exceptions like the Mega Man, Resident Evil and Breath of Fire series) up until towards near the end of gen 5; then, they shifted primarily to console and actually did very well out of it. Even after suffering that massive staff exodus at the end of gen 6, they managed to keep going strong quite a ways into gen 7, but about halfway through, they just completely shit the bed and fell apart. Now they're surviving off the back of low quality outsourced releases, mobile shovelware and the few teams that have somehow managed to survive unscathed (The mainline Monster Hunter team, Shu Takumi's team and Ono's small planning team most notably). In general I'd say that the best 3rd party output collectively came in gen 4 and 5, but Japanese developers mostly carried on producing great content up until gen 7, where everything generally began to fall apart. And while there was a time during gen 7, where western developers really started upping their game; the rise of games like Call of Duty and Uncharted put an end to that as their respective publishers put them to task to forever chase the dragon...
  21. OH! It's for the whole series!! That's even MORE awesome!
  22. A Paper Mario SS stage!? Well it's about damn time the series got some representation outside of the stickers/trophies! I for one, am pleased! Very pleased (speaking of which, if the stickers return, I think it's safe to say that I know what game would be getting a lot of representation through those...)
  23. More Twinbee yay!
  24. Well that explains the timing of the announcement of Murasame Castle's US 3DS VC release!
  25. It is THE highest seller, by quite a bit... (not sure about TCG GBC though, that could've topped it but I have no idea how much it sold...)
