  1. That kind of stuff is absolutely fine to me. And I don't care if other games do it, I don't like it; it doesn't make it acceptable in my mind (just like micro transactions or Skinner box techniques, just because it's an accepted norm elsewhere, doesn't mean it's fine - especially not with Nintendo games, I hold them to a higher standard!) I'm the kind of person who believes that any creative work should be left to stand alone once it is released (or at least it should be left alone as far as the original intended creative vision was - fixing unintentional mistakes or making things closer to their original intention, like fixing printing errors in a book, or broken frames in a movie release for instance are absolutely fine). Adding extra content to something post-release is also fine to me, as long as it does not change anything about the original release (or in the case of a remake, it is not pushed as a replacement for the original and both versions are continuously made available for people to experience). Doing something like what George Lucas did with the Star Wars movies (sorry to continue using the same example, but it's the most well known one) is absolutely abhorrent to me! I can't stand the idea of people wanting to re-write history after it has been made! Just because a thing can be done and has been done by others before, doesn't mean that it should be done!
  2. For me it's fixing something unintentional (glitch fixing) vs fixing something previously done intentionally (the George Lucas style of post release change). In my mind, the former is acceptable while the latter is not.
  3. It doesn't matter if the changes are slight or not, or whether or not people like the changes. It's no longer the same game anymore, it's something else now. That means that SSB4 is now a "living" ongoing thing, rather than a "finished" game. It's a huge sweeping change to how games in this series (and indeed Nintendo games in general) are designed and I'm not comfortable with it. I can't say to anyone "This is Smash Bros 4 and this is how it plays" anymore. Some might be excited at the prospect of never truly having things set in stone and ever evolving, but I lament the loss of having the game just being there and finished, while people's own ways of playing the game evolve over time. Yes they work just fine. Nintendo have already said so (there's a tweet from Nintendo Australia that specifically goes out of its way to say so as well). Edit: Oh wait a sec... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=930601&page=2 Hmm... That's a good point. Somebody mentioned that the Wii U game actually has some character specific glitches fixed... Maybe this "rebalancing" is actually just them fixing the glitches on the 3DS version to match the Wii U one? (makes sense that they'd want the two games to play the same - also explains the timing of this 3DS update too). I hope so at least... Cause I don't want to see them messing around with the actual character stats post release. Glitch fixing I am ok with, actual intentional character rebalancing I am NOT ok with though!
  4. It's not a port, it's a completely different game that is based on the original Rondo of Blood. Same level themes and story, but all the actual level designs are completely different.
  5. Wow... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138320347&postcount=36 They're actually rebalancing characters after launch!? I'm not happy about this... I wanted them to just leave the game alone... I know it's typical of fighting games these days to do this, but I wanted SSB 4 to just be something that was left alone. Now it's not even a game that can be just looked at as a complete thing, but rather it's an ongoing thing that keeps changing... We can look back at SSBB and laugh at how rubbish Olimar was, but now we can't do that with SSB4. Who's to say that he suddenly won't just become awesome now? What about the rubbish SSB4 Medaknight!? They might end up upgrading him and turning him back into the awesome SSBB Metaknight now!! It takes away from the character of the game
  6. OMG!! WHAT A WEEK THIS WEEK!!! Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Castlevania Dracula X!? (Oh and Bionic Commando Elite Forces on the 3DS VC too!) Wow! I don't know what suddenly spurred NOE to fire on all cylinders, but I am LIKING where they're going here! Keep it up guys!: peace: (The rest of this week's offerings across both platforms are fantastic too! I don't have nearly enough time for everything! I'll leave that for the other threads though...
  7. Told you it would all be worth the effort and that the upgrade would be well worth it Glad you found a great one in the end! It's always a brilliant feeling when you finally get it set up and there are no stupid problems you have to worry about like input lag, or any sort of weird picture problems. And then once you've calibrated and get everything looking the very best it can, you can just kick back and enjoy without any worries, knowing that you're getting the very most out of your games/movies etc!
  8. https://mobile.twitter.com/WayForward/status/530819190375325698 So it looks like it should make it in time before the end of December. Maybe even a week or two before Xmas if we're lucky
  9. I'll give more detailed thoughts later on, but basically in short... IT'S SOOOOO GOOOOOOODDDD!!!! Here's my Miiverse posts made so far... https://miiverse.nintendo.net/users/Nuclear_Muffin/posts
  10. Huh? I thought that the Pilotwings Resort stage WAS the WuHu Island stage! Clever use of existing assets though! : peace:
  11. Dunno what the response time is on the Gamepad, but I do know that it uses an IPS screen (think the 3DS does as well) and those types of screens give really good response time. BTW: Do remember that the Gamepad is displaying a compressed video, so the minor artefacts and dull colours that you see don't necessarily come from the screen itself, but rather from the video that is being streamed to the Gamepad (ok, that distinction doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but it annoys me when people complain about the screen quality and the duller colours when it's displaying a compressed video stream at all times!) BTW: I got both versions :awesome: I'm gonna do my first play through on 3DS and then my second on Wii U! BTW: I do have to just say that the S3D use in the 3DS version is AMAZING!! It is SO well done it is unreal! They really put love and care into crafting the S3D effects in this game and it shows! Even the tiniest of details like having the splashes of oil drop forward in S3D when they hit the ground! Some of the best S3D implantation of any 3DS game I've played!
  12. Yeah, someone just pointed out that the MM3D moon is based on the one from Hyrule Warriors... And I find I have to agree. The resemblance is uncanny.
  13. I don't like the way that the moon looks... It looks squashed and not so naturalistic. It actually looks less round and moon-like now! They've kept things looking surprisingly faithful, but when they're going out of their way to do so, things that look "off" like this really bother me... Overall, despite this being perhaps my favourite game of all time, I don't quite feel as excited as I feel I should be. I'm not convinced that this is a good fit for 3DS (not talking visuals, but rather the gameplay format - I don't feel it is well suited to handheld play at all), nor do I feel that it needs to be remade at all. That being said, I'm certainly gonna buy the hell out of it and love every second playing it in a new way, but I don't think this remake is going to feel as essential as OoT 3D did. Edit: Here's a better comparison of the moons... Here it looks rounder, but the face takes up too much of the surface IMO. It's overpowering and not in a good way... It's supposed to look like a moon with a face, not a face that is a moon! It also looks goofy looking and lacks any of the real despair in the look of the original version's moon, replacing it with kinda goofy looking anger. The moon is supposed to be sad that it is being turned into a world destroying weapon, that's why it sheds a moon's tear at the start of the game. Here it just looks like an angry being that is taking the shape of a moon - it takes away from the impact of that subtext for me... I know it's gonna sound super nitpicky to many of you, but that kind of thing means a lot to me with this game. Everything in the original version of MM felt deliberate in its design and I don't think that this remake is capturing everything that made the original game so great... Ahh well, It's never going to replace the original anyway. It'll be nice to experience the game in a new way though
  14. I don't care what any of your say. Duck Hunt VC was the true highlight of this ND, even over Majora's Mask 3D (and MM is perhaps my favourite game of all time). Just from a sheer historical preservation standpoint, the thought that the Zapper/Superscope games are finally going to be released from the shackles of CRT displays (they don't work on anything but old fashioned CRT displays - meaning that when all of the world's CRT displays die off, and they're already becoming increasingly difficult to find as they're not being made any more, Duck Hunt and its brethren will effectively cease to exist - Not anymore though! ) is just amazing! Let's just pray that they don't fuck it up. All they have to do is copy SEGA's Wiimote calibration option in their lightgun releases on Wii (It's basically just simple triangulation) and that's it. Perfect! PLEASE DON'T PUT A CURSOR ON THE SCREEN! YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THAT!!!
  15. Completely agreed, it's total bollocks. It feels like the 1990s all over again (it's always Kirby. NOE ALWAYS fuck up with Kirby! The only time we've ever gotten a real proper release for the Kirby games is with Kirby Mass Attack and Kirby's Return to Dreamland; too bad they fucked up the latter game's name in Europe though...) NOE have been doing so well recently as well. But of course, their irrational hatred for Kirby strikes once again I did think something was up during the Nintendo Direct. It only hit me right at the end of the video but it hit my hype like a ton of bricks as I suddenly realised that absolutely NOTHING was announced for release on Wii U before May 2015. I couldn't believe that this could happen, to have it be even worse than the first half of this year! Lo and behold, I now have my explaination I still think they'll probably release Yoshi's Wooly World in March, but that's still really bad to have nothing lined up for Febuary or April. Bi-monthly retail releases aren't good enough! Seeing the Zapper/Super Scope games FINALLY get re-released on Virtual Console is just barely enough to contain my anger over the delay... just barely...
  16. WE'RE FINALLY GETTING THE ZAPPER/SUPERSCOPE GAMES ON VC!?!? MAJORA'S MASK 3D AT LAST!? DAT F-ZERO REMIX!? THIS NINTENDO DIRECT DELIVERE.... ... oh...
  17. Dammit! Stop getting me hyped!! Pokemon Snap 2 is more bloody likely than Duck Hunt Extreme!!
  18. Nintendo Direct: The Revenge of Iwata LET'S DO THIS!!!! DROP ALL THE BOMBS!!!
  19. CONFIRMED!!! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=924406 WOOHOO!!! Bring em on!!
  20. Paging @Hero\-of\-Time Your time has come! Edit: Dammit Serebii! You just HAD to beat me to it, didn't you? :p
  21. The funny thing about HDTV input lag (and this is just a general rule of thumb thing I've noticed) is that high end displays tend to have more input lag than cheaper models, believe it or not! It's far from a hard and fast rule, but it makes sense when you think about it. Cheaper TVs tend to do much less image processing, which in turn means less chance of introducing input lag. Of course there are exceptions to every rule and this one is no exception. There are high end models with low input lag and elcheapo TVs with high input lag, but it's more common the other way around I find. My current living room TV was decidedly "mid range" by 2012 standards, but it just happened to be perfect for me. It all just comes down to doing the research As for the whole distance thing. I play on a 40' screen from roughly 6 feet away. I do notice the benefits of 1080p, but most Wii U games look fantastic and crystal clear, with virtually no visible jaggies, whether in 720 or 1080 anyway (TW101 is an odd exception though, very jaggy that game is!). PS360 games are a different story as they can look a bit blurry or noticably jagged. Wii/GCN games run through their own custom picture settings on my TV and I've got them generally looking good. Notceably blurry, but not too much (I find myself mentally ignoring it for the most part while playing), not too jagged either and surprisingly good looking too! Good art always shines through in the end anyway N64 is... Well it's the N64. Only so much you can do there!
  22. Look at the news banner up the top of the picture. If you don't get it after that...
  23. New Super Smash Bros for Wii U DLC expansion pack confirmed!!
  24. Yeah I noticed that. It does sound good and much better than some other Game Modes I've seen (like I said before, I've seen some where you can't even change the contrast or even colour settings! So you're stuck at whatever horrible pre-set that they have on there!) Overall the TV sounds very promising. I'd definitely shortlist it! (generally, it's always a good idea to have a few different models in mind and then decide between maybe just 2 or 3 of them) That is ALWAYS the very best thing you can do! The best shops will let you actually hook up your own stuff and actually try it out for yourself. There's nothing that truly beats a hands on experience :awesome: But yeah, I know it's really daunting and it's far more difficult and complicated than it really should be (at the end of the day, all you want to do is play a bloody game without having to worry about any of this crap after all! ), but I don't regret putting the time and effort into researching this stuff at all. The results are always well worth it and always really interesting in of itself (you learn a lot!) I LOVE the TVs I have and am really happy I put the time and effort into getting the most out of them (and no, the irony of using them to play old NES/SNES/N64 games on them is not lost on me )
  25. Response time is basically how fast the screen refreshes the LCD panel. The lower the response time, the less ghosting/motion blur you see on moving objects. Basically, think of the original GB screen and how you used to have a really obvious after image of anything that moved and that's an example of a display with a very low response time (you can also see this emulated on GB VC games on the 3DS when you enable the green tint filter - the B&W image doesn't emulate the motion blur though, because it's just displaying the raw game image, so it's a really good example of what I'm talking about actually! Green filter = low response time, B&W = high response time) Input lag however is the time it takes for an action to be performed when you press a button in a game, to when you actually see the action be performed. It's something that is unique to HDTVs because of all the processing that they do - old school CRTs are completely lag free, but modern displays sadly are not. These things are both something that loads of people get confused for each other, so you're not stupid for thinking that and you're far from alone for thinking so! It's the TV manufacturer's fault for not being clear about this stuff and for making it an issue in the first place (Really it's ridiculous that you should have to do so much damn research these days to avoid this stupid issue! ) Sounds very promising, but all the tests they did in that review only mention the results in Game Mode, so be careful - it could have loads of input lag when Game Mode isn't enabled... I'd recommend checking out to see if anyone has mentioned anything about the input lag when Game Mode isn't turned on on AV Forums (I'll see if I can have a quick check for you and see if I can gleam anything, but you might just have to ask - the forum is pretty active so you'll probably get some replies before long ) Edit: I found this couple of comments from a member called justaname that you might want to bear in mind (I think he's talking about the same TV as you, though he just mentions a "W7" TV...) https://www.avforums.com/threads/sony-2014-w7-w8-1080p-edge-led-tv-owners-thread.1858674/page-135#post-20758318 So that seems to imply that there is a noticeable difference between the two and you will get decreased image quality in Game Mode (that's gonna be the case for any TV you buy), but then again, I keep hearing good things about its image quality in Game Mode regardless (including full 4:4:4 colour reproduction, so that's a good sign), so it sounds like not all hope might be lost... You might just have to ask though :p No wucking furries mate! : peace:
