Which means that they have a GB/GBC Virtual Console emulator already up and running on Wii U... meaning that they could bring GB/GBC games to the Wii U VC any time they wanted to...
-
That's not Demon's Crest you've downloaded, that's Gargoyle's Quest. DC is a SNES game, while GQ is a GB game. Demon's Crest is basically Gargoyle's Quest 3 (Gargoyle's Quest 2 is a NES game incidentally and has only just recently been re-released for the first time a few months back). Demon's Crest has never been re-released, though the U.S. just got it on the Wii U VC a few weeks ago! As for Gargoyle's Quest, it's fairly lengthy for the type of game it is. About 4-5 hours ish your first time through I think.

Told ya you'd like it! Yeah, Demon's Crest was simply too obscure for me to end up with as a kid (it's rare and expensive for a reason ) and I've not bought it on cart because I've been waiting for a VC release ever since 2006!! I always knew that it would hit the VC some day. I figured that if I was ever going to play it (alongside loads of other NES/SNES/N64 games I missed out on), I'd rather play it in the best possible way (since playing SNES games on a real SNES on modern day TVs isn't exactly the nicest way of playing - the picture quality improvement from a SNES to a Wii/Wii U is pretty massive - not to mention the ability to use high quality wireless controllers and the glory of Suspend Saves; and now Off TV/Miiverse on top of that! ). So yeah, there's loads of games I've still yet to play from NES/SNES and I'm glad I held out for their eventual re-releases (as well as the rest to come... someday!). Castlevania Dracula X was another one of those holy grail games for me that I had been waiting a long time to play as well, until just last week that is! (Not as big a holy grail as Rondo of Blood mind you - which was even better than I was expecting it to be BTW!). Now the only 2D Castlevania I have yet to play is Castlevania Bloodlines, which sadly looks like it will be a long long way off getting a VC re-release since there's no sign of Megadrive support on Wii U (but I still hold out hope! One day... one day...)

Fabulous little set of reviews there! : peace: That being said, I do think it's a bit cheeky to not rag on a bit more about how glitchy DK Land can be at times... Plenty of moments when you die by falling down the screen too fast, even though there's a platform below you... (oh and it can be pretty damn hard to make out yourself and the enemies from the backgrounds far too often...) Otherwise, good stuff all round!

True, but any re-release or re-print that they would do (and they will in the future at some point), would be using the latest version. Likewise, people are archiving the update files (I am, to some extent, at least anyway), but only the latest one will allow for local multiplayer - at least without somehow hacking the game to allow earlier versions to play locally again. It's the versions that are caught in the middle between the beginning and the end that will truly be the ones that suffer I just wish that there was an easy way to revert and choose the version that you want to play...

Depends if you think of it as a "good" side or not... For me, this is tantamount to rewriting history. Imagine if we had this tech back in the day when Pokemon first came out in Japan and patches could've been installed remotely. If that was the case, the game we know today as Pokemon Red/Green would not exist today. It would've been overwritten by what we know today as Pokemon Blue and that original version would've been lost to time forever... Surely I am not the only one who would've been outraged by that!?

The 1.04 update is out now! Quite a few character specific glitches have apparently been fixed, but still no word about any intentional stat changes, so the jury is still out on that front... Edit: Whelp! Looks like stat changes have indeed been made. Supposedly Ness' down throw has been made weaker, amongst other changes. For better or worse, the modern era has infected Smash I'm not happy about these post release changes being made, but what can I do about it? I guess nothing is really sacred anymore

Bit weird that they say that they have no plans when they were keen on publishing it before... Makes you think that it might already have a western publisher lined up before Xseed got a chance...

I haven't played Demon's Crest or Gargoyle's Quest 2 yet (though I do own the latter on Wii U), but I did enjoy the 1st game It's a bit slow paced and can feel a bit sluggish, but it's a pretty unique little game. Very reminiscent of Zelda 2, like you said, but more exploration focused and the platforming takes precedence over combat. It does require a lot of patience, but it is a pretty satisfying experience overall and yes, 3DS Miiverse is terribly slow, I don't use it nearly as much as on Wii U because of that... ... until I get my New3DS next week that is!

So it has finally happened. There's a game with a save file exploit and a homebrew launcher is due for release in a matter of days... Why doesn't Nintendo just blacklist the retail game now, before it's too late? We know what game is the culprit (why thanks Ubisoft!), so they know which game to block... Then issue an update that outright stops the game from running, issue a recall for the retail games and update the eShop version. They managed to stop the same thing from happening with that one game that blew open the DSi's security with its own save file exploit, just do the same thing again! (Granted, it's more difficult because it's a retail title, but it can still be done here and now regardless!)

It's another good week this week! Wild Guns and Natsume Championship Wrestling for Wii U (both US 60hz versions) and Lufia GBC for 3DS! If you've never played Wild Guns before, it's an absolute MUST! A true hidden gem for the SNES! (Definitely one for fans of Sin & Punishment too )

The ones with the figurines are all gone now, so I reckon that the steelbook editions might well be actually limited...
-
Aww... This guy beat me to the punch Hopefully I can still at least be the first to play it with the Mario DDR mat...
-
Yup! They never spare any expense there! Mario 64 has one of my favourite end credits music tracks ever! So many developers focus on putting all of their efforts on the first hour or so of their games because they don't expect people to finish them. Not Nintendo. They KNOW that you're gonna want to play to the very end (and they reward you handsomely all the way!)
-
Glad you liked both of them. They're both really underrated entries in their respective series! : peace:
-
Oh yeah! Forgot to post that. TBH, we've sort of been expecting Hayashida to get his own team for a good while now. One of the EAD Tokyo teams is probably providing assistance to Greezo for Majora's Mask 3D as well (they did the same for OoT3D, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing here).
-
Oh! Well now this IS interesting... Definitely seems like they're not trying to supplant the original game here, but rather they're offering something different; more like Super Mario 64 DS than Ocarina of Time 3D (And of course, they'll continue to offer the original version anyway) I feel a bit better about this remake now I wonder if those fishing spots will only be available after restoring each of their respective areas? (probably the swamp and the Great Bay)
-
Oh, fair enough. They haven't sent my code out yet BTW, so you were right on the money there.
-
You'd be wrong. The NNP promotion does apply to download codes (You get the full £50 worth of points, regardless of whatever price you paid for the code too!) Yeah, that does effectively make the game £34.99
-
If you got a download code from Game, you would've ended up effectively paying £35... (Download Code = £40, plus you get £50 worth of NNP points - Yes you do get the full RRP value worth of points, even if you got the download code for cheaper, or for free... Yes, the free codes given out during the MK8 poromotion gave £50 worth of points too ) Gonna really miss that promotion

Yeah, it's a shame. Different times, different development requirements though. Back then, you could make a great retail scope game on a shoestring budget with just a handful of staff. Nowadays? Not a chance. The game is just too ambitious for the kind of licenced game budget/timeframe it had. Platinum's Legend of Korra game turned out alright though. Tiny budget, but they smartly focused on trimming all of the fat they could and just worked on making a solid core combat system within the limited budget/dev time they had. SEGA were asking for too much here, but they were probably under their own constraints too (desperate to get out of making big budget console titles for the most part, stuck in an exclusivity contract etc). Just a bad situation all round, with a lot of good intentions and misguided desire along the way.
-
Well this explains a lot... http://www.tssznews.com/2014/11/15/reports-suggest-brb-exodus-ahead-of-sonic-boom-launch/ Apparently, a large chunk of staff left Big Red Button during the game's development (seemingly voluntary, a lot weren't happy with how the project was being handled and how it was progressing). A shame really. As sad as the whole thing looked and turned out to be, that's the nature of licenced games I guess. I'm sure the staff went in with the best intentions, but licenced games just don't get the budget and care they need to be good because they are ancillary products, designed to sell a wider brand. Good licenced games are incredibly rare and I don't really blame the staff involved really
-
I would've happily have paid £40 at retail for this game. It's that good! Really if anything, it's too cheap. It absolutely deserves to be bought at full price!
-
Did you take the hardest path each time? Cause I did :awesome: (I also didn't use any customisations and I did it with Ike)
-
Don't go saying that... I'm literally only 36ms off of beating it now (Yes I gave in and started using that character, that record of yours is not going to hold for long... )
