The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Not just that, but the online album/custom stage sharing was delayed till next year, as was playable Mewtwo. Either way, I was still kind of right -

Well, technically it wasn't fully released in 2014... A big chunk of the game's online features were delayed till next year That's the plan! Always works out well for me! -
That's the part that takes the longest for Nintendo though. Unlike the likes of Ubisoft, they don't have the same kind of production manpower that they do. Even if they contract Namco to help (which I think is almost a dead cert to happen), 1.5 years just isn't long enough. That would be a crazy short dev cycle, especially for a Wii U calibre HD production! It's just not reasonable to expect. It needs at least 2 years. It'll come out the first half of 2016, unless they end up releasing it episodically...

We've already seen some of the Gamepad's uses in Starfox Wii U. You can aim the reticle separate from the ship's movement with the motion controls (that's gonna be a real game changer! Makes it effectively more like Sin & Punishment than past Starfox games...), you also get two perspectives (the traditional view of the Arwing/Landmaster on the TV and a cockpit view on the Gamepad), there's a new helicopter vehicle that features a dual perspective (behind the helicopter on the TV, top-down view on Gamepad) and motion for fine adjustments IIRC and you can supposedly switch between the Arwing and the Landmaster at any time via a button on the Gamepad. -
It might not, but one man's delusion can carry over to something else Either that or it hints that Starfox Wii U may indeed be an episodic game (because if development really did only start middle of last year, then there's no possible way that they could ever get a full and complete retail Starfox game out within just a year and a half's development, it's just not enough time).

From the Game Awards press release... Now THAT'S a game changer! Sweet Zombie Jesus! Looking at this after the crushing disappointment that was Smash Bros Wii U's Stage Builder is just... wow! And to think of the potential if they include more themes based on other games... (Didn't they hint at a Zelda based theme? )

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Hilarious that you believe that when Skyward Sword had the longest development cycle of any Zelda game ever made (one that is apparently longer than the dev cycle that Zelda Wii U is gonna get might I add!) Skyward Sword is just extremely densely packed (and of course the motionplus controls presented significant dev challenges that extended the dev cycle too), that's why it took so long to make. Actually, thinking about it, all of my favourite Zeldas are the ones that are small in scale but very highly concentrated (Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Majora's Mask, Zelda Spirit Tracks etc); so it stands to reason that I'm wary about this one. I'm much more interested in what you do in a game than what you see; big vistas mean nothing to me if there's nothing to do in it... But I love all of the Zelda games and I'm sure that I'll end up loving this one as well, I just don't think it'll live up to the likes of Skyward Sword for me Saw that before and I think it's a reeeaaaaallll stretch here. Where are the big two central lakes? Why do the lost woods in Zelda 1 seem to match up with a big area that looks like a massive desert? This isn't exactly Pokearth in ORAS here :p That being said... There's no way that this one wasn't intentional -

Compare the way this reveal has been done in comparison to Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess. SS' first reveal had a huge chunk of the gameplay features highlighted and in fully playable form in that 2010 trailer, while Twilight Princess' 2004 trailer was pretty much devoid of any gameplay outside of horseback fighting in an empty open environment. This Zelda Wii U reveal video is much closer to Twilight Princess' reveal than Skyward Sword's one... TP took over 2 years to come out from that initial reveal, while Skyward Sword took 1... And it's no real secret that the design philosophy behind this game is the complete opposite of Skyward Sword. The world is huge and interconnected, the exact opposite of SS. And like all open world games, the game's content is spread thinly over the huge landscape, it has to be by design. It's just not possible to create an environment that is as massive as this and then have it as densly populated as Skyward Sword or even Twilight Princess or OoT. The only question that remains then is whether or not the world is spread too thinly. Right now that is definitely the case and I can't see any realistic way that they could possibly populate the world with enough Zelda-like content within just a year... Xmas 2016 and no earlier. -
Codename: S.T.E.A.M. - Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace

This game is getting ridiculously overlooked! It must be heartbreaking for the developers to see it get ignored by the media at large (look at how much the audience just didn't seem to care when this trailer played ) It's gonna end up being one of those overlooked gems like Elite Beat Agents or Valkyria Chronicles that people look back on fondly, despite not caring about it before it came out. -
Considering how early Zelda Wii U looked, he's either delusional or they really are planning on releasing the game episodically (with the first episode coming out in 2015 and the rest following in 2016)...

That demo looks really early still... The overworld might be huge but it looks very empty, meanwhile, things like the onscreen display look very early in development still, there's no music outside of enemy battles and Link has no idle animations... This is so not gonna be a 2015 release, no way. Also, colour me a bit disappointed that there's no Wii Remote 1-1 motion controls (yeah I expected it to be Gamepad only, but I do have to admit that I was sort of hoping for a ridiculous Wii Remote & Gamepad sword n' shield control setup :p ) Well I suppose they've already done it once before, so it's better to see them try something different I guess. Good on em' for holding true to their promise of that first trailer being actual gameplay footage though! That arrow shooting gameplay looks awesome! (I wonder if the sword in general might actually end up being de-emphasised in favour of other items this time around?) I get the feeling that this game is gonna end up being the complete polar opposite to Skyward Sword. Instead of having relatively small disconnected levels that are very densely populated, you're gonna get a huge interconnected world that is very sparse and desolate. Traditional control setup instead of motion controls. Focus on exploration and discovery of naturally designed environments instead of traversing environments that are designed around raw gameplay mechanics, with the way that they are visually designed being a byproduct of that. The fact that they've made two reveal videos that focus on the technology of the game and how BIG the world is also has me concerned. Who cares if you have a massive world if there's nothing interesting to do in it? I get that suspicion that their focus is not in the right place with this game... Not really feeling it so far... -
I think there's more to it than that though. Is there any real threat of the Xbone stealing away the Fighting game market? Yeah it has Killer Instinct, but PS4 is still by far the most popular console and is getting multi platform releases of every single major fighting game series (as well as Guilty Gear Xrd, which is exclusive to PS3/PS4). To buy SF5 as an exclusive just feels so unnecessary. It's a move that would make sense for Microsoft to do, not Sony. They're already the runaway winner and already have almost every single relevant traditional fighting game series under their belt, so why bother spending more money on something that will bring about minimal benefit to you?
-
That's a pretty big name pickup by Sony! Though it does beg the question of why? Unless it's a Bayo 2 style situation where the funding just wouldn't exist otherwise (and I doubt that when you consider that SF4 sold very well and that SF5 is also coming to PC), I can't see why Sony would bother buying exclusivity here; timed or otherwise. The game would sell the most on PS4 anyway, Sony are the ones in a position of power here. They have the best selling console and having SF5 come to Xbone as well as PS4 wouldn't change that either way; so this gesture seems kind of pointless really unless it was either the only way the game would be made, or if Microsoft was threatening to swoop in and pick it up as an exclusive themselves and Sony did this to block them... This is the kind of move that Microsoft would make, not Sony...
-
I do hope that they're planning on making more of them. The less of them there are out there, the less likely they are to want to release GCN VC games (same applies for future consoles too. It IS USB after all, so they can very easily be made compatible with any future console they make too!)

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Online Meet Up Thread

I was DAA on Glen-i's Wii U. Quality games BTW! : peace: That last game, with the Hocotate bomb right at the end! The world NEEDS a Gif of that! -
Yeah, their launch campaign was largely focused around their legacy and that was nice to see (it wasn't as good as it could've been in that respect, but I digress) But still, my main point still stands. I still think that they don't generally value their past as much as they should do.
-
PS1 games are easy enough to emulate that streaming them is unnecessary and the PS3 emulation of PS2 titles is both woeful and lacking in quantity as a result; so for the sake of PS Now's future, they'll come to PS4 eventually anyway (plus in the long run, switching from PS3s to PS4s in their PS Now servers will be cheaper as the hardware can scale up/down and is made from mostly off-the-shelf parts).
-
I do wish that Sony would have more pride in their legacy in general. Compared to the likes of Nintendo, their own efforts to preserve and promote their past always come across as a bit half-hearted. Like take their emulation efforts for example, especially the PS2 on PS3 emulation - which is really lacking in quality - or their current 20th anniversary sale on the EU PSN; the PS1 selection is a pretty good representation of the platform in general, but the PS2 and PS3 selection is woefully lacking in that respect - it's mostly generic multiplatform stuff like COD or Asscreed; why not more stuff like the DMC collection? Stuff that is still really very much associated with Playstation? Likewise, with that new limited edition PS4 based on the PS1 colours, it would be a nice gesture but it ends up coming off as cynical to me because it's so limited in quantity and needlessly expensive; it feels like they're just gouging their most hardcore of fans for a quick buck (it should just be time limited and available everywhere at a normal price, that would be a much better way of celebrating their legacy!) It's not that Sony don't have a legacy to be proud of, they certainly do! (not like Xbox, which barely has any notable legacy to speak of at all outside of Xbox Live and Halo), I just never really feel that it's given the care, attention and focus that it should be getting; even now, their anniversary efforts still feel half-hearted to me. I hope that this upcoming PS Experience event does a better job of actually feeling like a true celebration of their 20 year history. So far, I'm not really impressed, but that could still change. I hope so anyway.

Personally I'm hoping to see emulated PS1 and PS2 classics (upresed to HD) come to PS4 and of course the usual hope for TLG to finally resurface... Otherwise, GOW3/GOWAscension PS4 (you're not getting much more out of Santa Monica anytime soon), a new Vib Ribbon, Parapper or revival of any of their long lost PS1 IPs would be nice to see Not holding my breath for much in particular though (though I do reckon that the PS1/PS2 classics on PS4 have a good shot at being here!)
-
Well it's that feeling of adventure, the focus on character development and world building and less on action per-say, the style of cinematography (slow panning and lingering shots etc), the swiftly paced script and writing style, as well as everything that went along with that. Even in comparison to the prequel trilogy, the difference between this trailer and those three movies is really obvious in terms of cinematography. You can just tell that it was directed by Abrams and not by the people who directed the first 6 movies. It's not a bad thing really, it's just different. And I'm sure that'll be reflected throughout the whole movie as well. I like Abrams' work, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it, just not necessarily in the same way as the original 3 or even the prequel trilogy (which did have its moments... Especially Revenge of the Sith).

Sounds like they're in a good place right now in regards to the game's dev cycle. Good to see that they're confident about the core gameplay that they've got in place here too; always a good sign when a developer has pinned down the core game mechanics and they feel confident about their vision for the gameplay, despite how many people ask it to just play like a straight F-zero clone Yeah, it's a really good game. Really very underrated. Yeah it could do with a bit more depth in regards to the drifting system and more variety and gimmicks in the track design, but what's there is pretty darn solid actually. I like it more than any of the Wipeout games myself It's not an F-zero clone, or a Wipeout clone, but rather it's its own thing.
-
I'm not sure whether or not to describe that as awesome or lazy though... If they didn't just make that themselves, then they obviously stole it from you. On one hand, it's awesome that they actually used something of yours in the actual game, on the other hand it's pretty insulting that they stole yours without crediting or asking you and also pretty lazy to not make their own... But either way, it's pretty awesome to see

I got mine from Play Asia, no problems. 365 Games are doing them as well and supposedly their shipping times have been good for people who've imported theirs from them...

That trailer looks just like Nu Trek. Not that I don't like Abrams' work, but it doesn't feel like Star Wars at all - not even the classic theme and the trappings do it for me. The cinematography, the fades & cuts, the lighting/colourgrading/colour palette, the special effects, they all scream Abrams - not Star Wars. It's really really obvious if you look past the surface level. I'm even tempted to say that it looks like a total conversion mod of Nu Trek I'll go into this as a fan of Abrams' stuff rather than looking for them to recapture the old feel of Star Wars, because otherwise I reckon I'd be heavily disappointed.

HOLY SNAPPLECAKES! I just got an Eon Ticket through Streetpass on my way home from work! GET IN!!! Edit: BTW, I feel I have to make a point on this here. I don't like how many separate loading screens there are here in this game. The mainline Pokemon games have always been focused on providing a mostly seamless world, it was a big part of what helped to make it feel "real". ORAS is a huge step back in that regard, both from the original GBA games and even X&Y. It's like almost every town (and even some routes!!!) are like Castelia/Lumiose City now It does take some of that magic away... Man, Game Freak's 3DS Gen 6 engine really really sucks...
