  1. IIRC, it's part of the Collector's Edition only...
  2. That's a good one! : peace: I'm not really a fan of GTA myself, but it's really ripe for stuff like that! Games like Smash Bros or Super Monkey Ball (or anything really physics based) are always really great for those kinds of challenges! Speaking of the latter, trying to break stages in the GCN SMB games was always great fun (I remember there was one stage in the 1st game where I always used to try beating it by jumping off the stage, bouncing off of the scenery and falling back onto it - I was so proud when I finally pulled it off!)
  3. Yeah it is. I've never ordered from there either, so it's a first for the both of us
  4. So I found myself watching an old classic Youtube video once again and laughing my head off as I always do... (if you've not seen it before, skip to about 3:50 and watch as Mario 64 becomes terrifying!) ... and it got me reminiscing about the days when me and my friends/family used to make up all sorts of challenges and games within games. One of my favourites back in the day was one we used to call Protect Your Home in MK64... Basically the idea was that you would choose a fort and have 5 mins or so to litter the area with as many items as possible. Afterwards you would go to infiltrate someone else's fort, starting from the ground, and fight your way to the top. First person to get there would win (of course, you could always choose to stick around and screw someone else over as they try to come over to yours Another little mini challenge I always liked was in Starfox 64/Lylat Wars... ... try doing that... IN THE 1ST PERSON COCKPIT VIEW!! (Yes the cockpit does actually spin, yes it'll probably make you throw up, no I've never managed to pull it off : peace: ) And of course there's always lots of other little ones we used to like doing, like racing backwards through the tracks in the Mario Kart series, or challenges inspired by Perfect Dark's Counter-Op mode, where you play various games in co-op, with one player trying to screw over the other at every opportunity... There's other famous ones of course, like the 1% Challenge in Metroid Fusion, or Swordless Link runs in OoT, or low level runs/3 Heart Challenges, but what ones did you always like doing yourself? What games did you and your friends used to make up? (Drinking games count too of course! I know that the Mario Party series particularly is ripe for this )
  5. Great review! : peace: I do think you're underselling it by calling it a remake though, when in reality it's actually basically a completely different game from the NES Metroid. It only loosely shares a few core aspects of the original game's map design (certain rooms, most of the world layout with Brinstar leading into Kraid etc). I always preferred the term "re-telling" myself. I think it's a much better descriptive term for what MZM did for the original Metroid than "remake"; because it really shares very little and deviates massively. It's definately its own thing!
  6. Well either way, they've got one sale out of me! I need the Wii game something fierce! (Not to mention that it'll probably end up being amongst the rarest Wii games ever to be released...) If only we could get a digital version as well...
  7. They had to wait for the translations to be completed when releasing it on Nintendo consoles as they only started the translation process after releasing the game in the US originally. Now that they're already finished and done with, they could implement the already finished translations as they were making these versions for other consoles; meaning that the EU versions would've been done and submitted at the same time as the US versions for the other consoles.
  8. To be fair, that's to make up for the lack of the Digger's Diary/Streetpass Arena anyway. I'd love to see a Nintendo cameo (or even a Mega Man one!), but I'm not complaining for a lack of one.
  9. All well said : peace: But it should also be said that the EAD Tokyo titles generally have a different focus. Instead of having the level design being built around the controls, the later 3D Marios take the opposite approach; with the level design taking precedence. They have a much larger focus on gameplay gimmicks and surprising/engaging level design than pushing Mario's core moveset like SM64 and SMS do. That's not a bad thing, it's just different. Having SM64's moveset in SMG would simply be utterly overwhelming and would never gel with the level design at all. Mathewmatosis put it best when he said that each 3D Mario title offered something different that it excelled at (oh and if you haven't watched his reviews yet, you really really should! I don't always agree with what he says, but I do more often than not! )
  10. On the other hand, it's not like there's a lack of reviews out there of these games anyway... Even for the games on the Wii VC, there's plenty of reviews already out there which don't take Restore Points into account. Surely it actually makes more sense to note the experience of using them here, considering that they are features that alter the experience that were not there before? The Wii U VC release and the Wii VC (or the original console for that matter) releases are different products (even though the game itself remains unchanged). If you're not gonna look at the game from a new perspective as it gets re-released on Wii U, then why bother even writing new reviews for these re-releases in the first place? These are more than just the original games being offered here after all. You have the original experience untouched here, but you also have all of these new features added on top that can optionally change the experience. Doesn't make sense to me to re-review these games and not note the new experience that these Wii U VC releases offer
  11. I agree, but if you're reviewing the Wii U or 3DS VC release, it actually makes perfect sense to make use of them and note the altered experience in your review. Even if you're staunchly against them and are committed to doing a properly stoic run, you would have to at least note how tempting they are to use by just sitting there... It adds a battle of will on top of the war of attrition in your mind...
  12. Well DK64 isn't really hard anyway (just incredibly tedious), so Restore Points aren't gonna really matter much here So either way, you win here :p Suspend Saves however are INCREDIBLY useful for that game! The levels are massive and trying to get back to where you were after taking a break is a massive time waste Edit: Wait, actually there are the DK Arcade game and Jetpac coin challenges. Those are actually pretty hard... ... and there's also Beaver Bother... Mind you though @S\.C\.G, from a review ethics standpoint, I suppose in a certain sense it actually does make sense for you to make use of the Restore Points. If you're reviewing it as a Wii U product, you really should explore it from the perspective of someone who is new to the game, playing it for the first time on Wii U - which means that you might end up finding yourself gravitating towards using it for various reasons (lack of time, extreme difficulty etc). Ideally, you would do two playthroughs (with and without), but that's just infeasible really; so if you're playing a Wii U VC release (especially if it's not for the first time), making use of the Restore Points is actually the more ethical option as a reviewer ironically enough! : peace:
  13. It's a beautiful gift that just keeps on giving! : peace:
  14. Suspend Saves are like mana descending from the heavens, while Restore Points are just pure scum and villanry! The former just makes games more convenient and playable (especially for games that have no save feature at all and just expected you to beat it in one sitting or keep your console turned on overnight), while the latter robs a game of its entire design (as well as its all important randomness. Any RNG used in a game is rendered utterly useless by save states - something that NES Remix actually takes advantage of). You might end up justifying it if you simply can't beat a game, but you're still not really playing it. It's ok that it's there (it's the closest thing that you can possibly get to a Super Guide for classic titles), as long as it comes with a Mark of Shame to go along with it And as for Mario 64's controls? I can't really argue that it is much less refined than in later 3D titles, but it also has the most free flowing and momentum based movement mechanics that the series has ever seen. What it lacks in refinement, it arguably more than makes up for with the sheer freedom of movement it offers : peace:
  15. Another game the heavily suffers from a lack of multiplayer, but hey! A good game is a good game!
  16. The Pilotwings boat is an actual stage hazard!?
  17. Nice! Obviously it was just too much awesome for your phone to handle (either way I'm sure that half the people there were probably doing recordings anyway, so no doubt it'll probably be all over YouTube eventually :p ) Yeah, it's a shame cause everyone was well behaved during all of the previous events... It's like giving everyone a free license to turn into a dickhead
  18. Wow! How had I not heard of this!? Looks pretty good! The old MM games were pretty great little party games! Might have to give this a go... Good local multiplayer games are a real rarity outside of Nintendo consoles so that alone makes it worth a look! : peace:
  19. you saw nothing...
  20. Best bit is that we're all gonna get hardly any practice at all IN!!
  21. It is exactly like Shovel Knight, your eyeballs will cry pixellated tears of joy! (NES games have a slight blur filter on them, but it's only minor really). Yup! You've got a LOT to catch up on! There's only 2 N64 and DS games available right now (those consoles were only just added to the VC service a couple of weeks ago), but they'll no doubt fill out over time : peace: (gives you a chance to catch up on everything else on there )
  22. Well I finally finished a project that I've been wanting to do for a long time! I got a nice big whacking 4TB HDD for my PC and got my entire (and massive!) DVD collection ripped to my PC! (Took almost a whole bloody month to get everything done, those damn TV series with their dozens of DVDs each! Me and my brother insisted on doing it all properly! Full DVD quality, surround sound left intact, everything properly named etc) The idea behind it is that I want to make my living room setup as clutter free and minimalist as possible, so now I'm using my PS3 to stream all of my DVD movies/anime/TV shows (We didn't rip the Blu-Rays though, it's just unrealistic to do and retain the full quality) and have them all selectable from the menu! I'm looking to get a proper HTPC solution soon, with everything running directly off it without the need for streaming (probably next month, when I've got more money to hand), but for now? This'll do just fiiiiinnnneeee ... Problem though is that after doing all that... I kinda want to watch everything we have now There's so much I still need to play catchup on! Can you believe that we have the full series of Breaking Bad and I've never gotten round to watching it!? (hangs head in shame...) So I'm rectifying that now! Series 1 is down for the count and I'm coming to the end of series 2 now!
  23. Well it has been a while since I updated this last, though I haven't actually beaten much... I've played through Kirby's Adventure Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 again! I'm not doing the Extra mode or the Green Stars right now though; those always sort of count as another game in my mind really - so I always save those for another play through. So with that in mind... Games I've beaten in 2015 Mario Golf Advance Tour Golden Sun Super Mario World Layton VS Ace Attorney Kirby Triple Deluxe Kirby's Adventure Wii (100/200%) Super Mario Galaxy 2 (120 stars) ... Yeah... It's a short list... I've mostly been playing pick up and play stuff recently like the SEGA 3D Classics, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and multiplayer stuff like Mario Party 10 :p I've also recently started Bravely Default (getting my arse kicked repeatedly!) and Majora's Mask 3D!
  24. Yeah... That's a really great trailer! You know that they're doing something right when they show basically absolutely nothing and you feel hyped regardless!
  25. Is "Bizerta" the part of the name (that already rips off of two other horror series) that rips off DMC? Cause their Not-Dante protagonist is making me think that and if that's the case, then that is a really really crappy go at it!
