I don't think Nintendo will do anything for the Switch at the Superbowl this year... ... Detective Pikachu might get an ad though!
-
Yoshi's Crafted World comes out in March. Other first party published games that have been officially announced and slated for "2019" include Animal Crossing Switch, Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Daemon X Machina, Ninjala, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Town and Pokemon Generation 8. First party published games that have been announced without even a vague release date include Bayonetta 3 (probably 2020, but 2019 isn't impossible) and Metroid Prime 4 (probably 2022-2023 now). Pikmin 4 was also announced years ago, but we haven't heard from it in about 3-4 years... so who knows about that one... Could be coming this year though! A Switch remaster of Metroid Prime Trilogy has also been heavily rumored to be coming out this year (was actually supposed to come out in February 2019 apparently, but seems to have been delayed - likely because of the fact that MP4 was pushed back and restarted; so they might sit on its release for a while). Meanwhile, Retro Studios was apparently working on Starfox Grand Prix; and if they're working on MP4 now, it should be finished and more or less ready for release any time now... There's a decent list of games already slated for this year, and it has barely gotten started. Couple that with the fact that most of Nintendo's internal developers are due to release something new this year and there should be a lot of exciting announcements and releases to come this year!

You really did expect me to be a pedant didn’t you? But what the hell, here’s THREE cross-gen non-Zelda Nintendo games... Animal Crossing Doshin the Giant Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue Team The last one is so obvious that I just had to make this post. FOR SHAME @Glen-i!!!
-
Yep, I suspect this will be a Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword dealio, especially because of the Switch 1.0 install base. Have to say, this got off way more lightly in terms of customer perception than the FF7 remake! Probably because even with them restarting development, everyone knows that MP4 will come out well before anything from the FF7 Remake

Games get moved between consoles all the time @Ronnie. Hell, I even listed some in my last post! Are you really angry that Nintendo advertised Resident Evil Zero, Kirby’s Air Ride, Earthbound 64, Dinosaur Planet and Eternal Darkness for the N64 and sold N64s on their hype before moving them onto the GCN/GBA? This has happened with every single Nintendo console ever made; this is nothing new. Nintendo don’t owe you anything. It’s too late for it to target the current Switch now if it’s only just starting development now. It’ll be a Switch Pro title.

It was already leaked that staff from Namco Japan and Singapore were working on the project. This has been known for a long time now. They’re starting development all over again from scratch; made by an entirely different developer. It’s a brand new game now. That’s like saying that Kirby’s Air Ride on the GCN is the same game as the N64 one; or that Mother 3 on GBA and N64 are the same game (they are absolutely not). Or that Resident Evil 1.5 is the same game as the Resident Evil 2 that we ended up with, or that DOOM 2016 is the same game as the original DOOM 4 (which was modelled after Call of Duty and scrapped in favour of an entirely different game that we ended up with). Games get cancelled and restarted from scratch, it happens. The resulting game is something totally distinct from the original vision. Namco’s Metroid Prime 4 was cancelled in favour of Retro’s Metroid Prime 4. That is the fact of the matter. It is no longer the same game. As for the snubbing? It probably did happen because Retro were working on something else at the time (I’d bloody hope so at least, they’ve been radio silent for 5 years now, with nothing to show except a quickie port of DKCTF to Switch!) They probably just wrapped up development on whatever it was they were working on fairly recently (so I’d hope for a release this year, assuming that it wasn’t cancelled!); but it is still very disrespectful to give away their series (their baby!) to an external developer like that. They could’ve just waited!

I’m really happy Nintendo went and did this. Not just because it means that Metroid is in the right hands now, but also because it’s a reaffirmation that the old ways of doing things at Nintendo, and their commitment to quality above all else, hasn’t given way yet. This Nintendo appears to have learnt the lessons that Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and (to a lesser extent) Xenoblade 2 have taught them after all. I was starting to fear that we were losing the Nintendo that we know and love, but this is a strong affirmation that they are indeed alive and well after all. Hopefully it means that they also still value the people who make their games above the IPs themselves. Namco had absolutely no business making Metroid whatsoever; it was completely outside of their area of expertise. While they are a production powerhouse that is filled with great programmers and artists, outside of their fighting game division, they have fuck all game/level design talent. Metroid is exactly the kind of game that they should not be making; and it’s shocking that they went ahead and gave Retro’s series to them (snubbing them in the process). This is not just a victory for Metroid, but a victory for the future direction of Nintendo as a whole. It gives hope that they haven’t given up their classic way of making games yet! The Metroid Prime 4 they have announced today is not the Metroid Prime 4 they announced back in 2017. That game was cancelled and this is an entirely different and completely new game, by a completely different developer; and has nothing to do with what Namco tried (and failed) to do.
-
One more thing I think we can say with certainty too. Metroid Prime 4 will not release on the current iteration of Switch. With development restarting this late, there’s no way that it’ll arrive before the current Switch gets succeeded.

PURE EXHUBARANTJOY!!!! The game has been delayed by around 3-5 years and I couldn’t be happier!!! Fuck Namco! We’re finally getting the real deal! This game is gonna be FUCKING AMAZING now!

What's to stop people from lying about their country of residence in order to get access to the cheaper prices? Back in the days of the Wii Shop Channel, when I was buying games from the US store with a US Wii, I used to lie all the time regarding my residency in order to use the Brazillian eShop (to add funds, since it allowed foreign debit cards), then switching back to the US store in order to actually buy the games I wanted. Allowing that with a region free system is too easily abusable.
-
I agree with the sentiment; it's also a necessary step if they want to keep the eShop as region free for all Switch owners around the world. They're not going to just leave an obvious pricing loophole wide open for abuse. I'd much rather they plug the hole than to take away region free access!
-
They would just release a free "connection app" on the eShop that includes all of the game files/assets, that is only usable when connected to the other Switch console. That's what Pac-Man VS Switch did.
-
It is a difficult task indeed, but not an impossible one. These are the guys that sold millions of boxes of cardboard after all, it's far from the craziest thing they've done. And hey, they did it for Super Mario Party! (at least with the Dual Switch mode). Switch is all about its versatility at the end of the day! I'd expect the inevitable Pikmin 3 port to also include the option to use a second Switch console to replicate the Gamepad map from the original Wii U version.
-
Not if they used two Switches locally! Hell the game that it was mainly inspired by (Pac-Man VS) is already available on Switch, using that exact setup! It (and Star Fox Zero) are absolutely possible on the current Switch! Only games that aren't currently possible are Art Academy Atelier and Kirby & The Rainbow Curse because they rely entierly on the Wii U Gamepad's Resistive Touchscreen & Stylus. Switch needs an official Active Stylus (like the Apple Pencil) before a port would be possible as there's no way that a standard Capacitive Stylus would do the job; and that would probably require a hardware revision to be possible...
-
A comprehensive list of remaining Wii U home console exclusives (3DS ports are highlighted in bold)... We're getting there! Not much left that's truly exclusive now... I do wonder if Nintendo would consider re-porting games to Switch that originally got 3DS ports... gut feeling says no, but you never truly know for sure! What Wii U - Switch ports do you guys reckon we'll get throughout this year? My money is on The Wonderful 101 (It was teased alongside Bayo 1 & 2 on Switch) Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Probably is real; I mean, they did announce SNES games for the service almost 2 years ago after all... The more interesting part though is the other two emulators outside of the NES and SNES ones... Dare I hope for N64 and GCN? (Or GB/C and GBA?)

This game rocks! Gotta get my cart fixed up with a new battery though (Still bloody annoyed that I lost my progress during my last playthrough a few months back!) -

So my Genki adapter just arrived... This thing Fucking Rules!! It works so ridiculously well that I can hardly believe it's real! It does indeed broadcast two seperate, distinct, stereo bluetooth signals to two seperate bluetooth devices! The quality is flawless and the lag is near non-existant when using a decent set of bluetooth headphones (I tried it with a set of airpods and the performance was flawless!). It boasts Bluetooth 5 aptX support and it shows! It draws power from the Switch itself (so no battery charging required), includes a USB-c passthrough port, and fits flush with the Switch, with a satisfying and professional feeling click. The build quality is also utterly superb. You could've told me that this was an official, first party Nintendo product and I would've believed you! The best bit though? It is completely seamless! To steal an overused Apple adage? It Just Works! I've tried pulling it out while playing and plugging it back in; it seamlessly reconnected to the headphones automatically, like nothing happened! I turning off the airpods and then turning them back on? Flawless reconnection! Even when connected to two seperate BT devices at once! And the connection process? Again, It Just Works. As advertised, you hold down the P1/P2 button respectively for 3 seconds, turn on your BT device and make it search for the Genki; bam! Done! Seamless! This thing even adds a microphone to the Switch itself, adding native voice chat support through the device itself for supported games like Fortnite. With an adapter (sold seperately) it can also be used in Docked mode too! This thing fucking rocks and I can't recommend it enough for anyone wanting BT audio support from Switch (or any other device that supports USB audio). It is everything you could've possibly have hoped for! (The only thing bad I can say about it is that there's no way to use it with a 3DS). This thing is amazing and worth every single penny I kickstarted it for! Well chuffed with the end product!

Wahey!! We’re getting both Gain Ground and Puyo Puyo in February in the West! https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/326235-sega-ages-gain-ground-and-puyo-puyo-drop-in-february-2019 Nice to see SEGA playing catch up with the international releases. Was worried that we were doomed to lag behind Japan for good!

Unless a Switch port of Nier Automata happens? Impossible. There are only two rules Sakurai has mentioned for including 3rd party characters in Smash. 1: They must have originated from a video game (so no Shrek you numbskulls!) 2: They must have a history on Nintendo platforms (Cloud appeared in both Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and in Theatrhythm 1 & 2, so he qualifies; while Joker appears in Persona Q2, so he qualifies too). None of the Nier characters have ever appeared on a Nintendo platform, so the answer is no. If we do get another S-E rep, my money is on either Erdrick (From Dragon Quest 1) or Crono (From Chrono Trigger).

Nintendo are obviously waiting for all of us to catch up on our backlogs before unveiling and releasing all of their big titles (see how kind they are!). That explains the endless release gaps, they know that we're never gonna catch up anyway.

Cheeky self promotion I see! I like it!
