I’d guess that your bank assumed it was fraud and auto-triggered an account block; because you made multiple purchases within a set amount of time. My bank does the same thing and it can be pretty irritating to deal with. Cant imagine that Nintendo would be responsible.

Indeed. One of Sony's greatest strengths was the autonomy of each regional division and their ability to cater specifically to each individual market... This restructuring is actively taking away that strength... SCEA has been growing progressively more powerful during this last gen though, as they pushed the Japanese division into irrelevence. It seems like all that power is getting to their heads though and now they want to push SCEE about... It's just baffling why gaming companies never seem to learn from past mistakes! It's like bloody clockwork! No bloody wonder why the Third Console Curse is a thing

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/playstation-eu-put-dozens-up-for-redundancy-on-day-of-ps5-announce/ Seems like the rumours of a power struggle between SCEA and SCEE might be real after all... Starting to get some nasty flashbacks to what happened to SEGA when the Japanese and US divisions tore each other apart and killed the company...

Sonic Spinball VS Super Mario Ball: Which game is worse?
Dcubed replied to Dcubed's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Looks like we've found a winner! Congratulations Mario! No Bonus for you! Thank you to everyone who helped to settle this incredibly important debate! Cheers! -
The SSD alone guarantees that this is impossible. $499.99 is the floor. $599.99-$699.99 is realistic. For reference, the Xbox One X is still $499.99 RRP at retail. Yeah, including their online subscription services in as a package deal along with hardware monthly installments might well be the approach that both Sony and Microsoft take I reckon. Microsoft in particular already have a killer app in that regard with Game Pass; so they're well poised to make it the standard I reckon.
-
Agreed. The value proposition of a console is outrageously fantastic compared to almost every other electronics device... but that's only because they can use the Razor & Blades model of sale, thanks to the ability to make money back on software and accessories. The proliferation of smartphones (and the recent upward surge in average pricing) will probably work in Sony's favour in this case; as they've helped to desensitise people to the extreme sticker shock... ... but then again, most people buy phones on contract and pay in monthly installments... Microsoft have experimented with this approach before, but I wonder if the two of them might be looking at doing something like this as the standard this time around to make the inevitably huge price tag more pallitable...
-
Especially since this console is gonna be mega expensive... Very possible that we will see the return of $599.99; I really don't see it selling for less than $499.99 as the absolute minimum. Not with that NVMe M2 SSD onboard. Hell even $699.99 doesn't seem impossible. Will be very interesting to see how Sony go about pricing this thing and if they might be thinking about multiple console tiers again...

It's not the same day as AC on Switch though... Switch version is getting extra delayed and is no longer launching on the same day as the other versions (Wouldn't surprise me if avoiding AC was half of the reason for doing that).

https://www.resetera.com/threads/doom-eternal-delayed-to-march-2020-switch-version-further-delayed-with-no-current-release-date-doom-64-coming-to-all-platforms-as-pre-order-bonus.145742/ Bummer... Not only has the game been delayed till March 20th 2020 on PS4/Xbone, but the Switch version is now no longer a day-and-date release; it's now coming out after the PS4/Xbone versions Not only that, but Doom 64 has been delayed too (though it is now being given out for free as a pre-order bonus on all platforms) Poo.

I agree. It's by far, the most obvious candidate for their next title.

To be honest, that's the only truly new piece of information that came out of this article; the rest we already really knew (and Bluepoint working on a PS5 game is basically Water-Is-Wet terrirory); the UI stuff is also nothing we haven't seen before. It was always going to be called "Playstation 5", it was always going to release in November 2020 and we already knew about the SSD the Raytracing stuff. That's all nothing really new. The controller is the really new part... and it basically is a complete ripoff of HD Rumble (its even being implemented in the same way, with the linear-resonance-actuators being placed across the left and right side of the controller). Potentially including a microphone is interesting, but there's nothing confirmed here, so there's nothing to discuss. And yes, I am happy to see HD Rumble becoming the standard; means more support from more developers. But let's call a spade a spade here
-
At least it means that more developers will start putting in effort with it. HD Rumble is awesome! And more developers making proper use of it is only going to be a good thing

https://www.wired.com/story/exclusive-playstation-5/ New details! Knew it. Knew that Sony would rip off HD Rumble. Sony Does What Nintendoes. As usual

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Hang on! That's actually impossible to miss! As soon as you finish Dragon Roost Cavern (the first dungeon) and you set sail for The Forest Haven, you are forced to encounter one of those fish! (and no, you cannot avoid it). He even fills in the first portion of the map for you! He even tells you to use the bait to talk to them to fill in your map! That's not the game's fault, that's YOUR fault -
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019

The game literally tells you that you need something to be able to read the tiny text in that book... The trading quest is also mandatory. You must have at least gotten the Pineapple by the time you reach the end of the game (You need it to be able to get Marin to come with you to wake up the walrus). Are you really telling me that you wouldn't even think to complete the trading quest that you've already started? The quest that you have already been doing throughout the entire game and have needed to do to get up to that point? (Whelp! Guess this pineapple is completely useless! Better give up and look up Youtube then...) Come on! Even as a five year old I figured that one out! And people complain about over-tutorialising in modern games... It's because of this Why-Can't-Metroid-Crawl attitude that we have to suffer braindead game design now. -
The AGDQ 2020 list of games is up! Ones that caught my eye include Cadence of Hyrule, Pac-Man Arrangement, Pokémon X/Y, Super Mario 64 Randomizer, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (With an estimate that is around half of what it was before... must've found some very interesting shortcuts!) and Mushihimesama Futari on Ultra!?!?! (Holy cow! That's nuts!)

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
More like it shows how far we've gone backwards... Breath of the Wild wishes it had an overworld that was even an eighth as interesting, well crafted and intricately designed as Link's Awakening's... ... but comments like this are unfortunately why we can't have nice things anymore... People just don't appreciate level design anymore. They don't even understand why a game like Zelda is designed the way it is. They want something brainless and huge; something they can gawk at and run around aimlessly in and to make stupid Youtube videos about; people don't want to even think anymore -
It is until you get to the true ending

Ahoy has come out with a new video that gets you thinking about what game actually qualifies as the first ever "video game". While I disagree with his definition and qualification (personally, I think that Cathode-ray Tube Amusement Device should be counted), it's another very well produced video that's well worth a watch!
-
Ha ha! Love it! Really looking forward to tucking into this game! Everything about it sounds brill!

Inspired by a question I just poised to @Glen-i on a whim a few minutes ago when he mentioned how he felt that his Mega Drive Mini would be worth more if he could simply delete Sonic Spinball from its menu (and not even replace with anything else); I ask you! The good denizens of N-Europe! Which sorry excuse for a pinball game was worse? Sonic Spinball: SEGA's flagship franchise trotted out for a rushed 1993 Xmas release when Sonic 3 was clearly not gonna be ready in time. Super Mario Ball: Fuse Games' debut game for Nintendo: From the creators of the award winning Pro Pinball series comes one of the worst games to ever grace the plumber's record (though its worth noting that it would end up being followed up with 2005's Metroid Prime Pinball; one of the best video pinball games ever made and probably the biggest jump in quality I've ever seen in a sequel! Does that make Super Mario Ball even worse in hindsight?) Of course... there's only one way to find out...

What Will You Be Buying & Playing Before The End Of The Year?
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
They've actually said that they're planning on doing a physical release but they don't seem to have mentioned anything since E3. So I guess it's still happening, but they're just keeping quiet on the marketing front in general right now. Ooh! I'd be up for that! But I think it'd probably be better suited to the Retro thread personally. I just beat Castlevania Bloodlines a few days ago (awesome game BTW! Well worth the wait and well worth the hype it has gotten over the years!), just beat Sonic 2 again and am currently trying (and failing!) to beat Contra Hard Corps for the first time. Otherwise, my list is very much focused on the MD Mini right now. There's plenty there that I've never played before (like Alisha Dragoon, Beyond Oasis and Snow Bros), plenty that I haven't played in years (like Alien Soldier, Shining Force and MUSHA) and plenty that I've never been able to beat before (like Thunderforce 3 and Revenge of Shinobi); but there's also Stunt Race FX that I've never had before getting it on Switch and I'm still playing through Trials of Mana and Final Fantasy Adventure as well. -
BTW: Nice find for owners of the EU MD Mini... You CAN still play the superior US versions of CV Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps! BTW: Worth noting that there's also a few US versions of games available if you set your console's language to Japanese, Korean or Chinese (Like Earthworm Jim and Vectorman); for the games that never originally got released in Japan (I think that CV Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps are the only games with major differences between the US/EU versions though). CV Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps are only available if you set the language to Korean though. Also worth noting that if you make a save state in a different region version of the game, you can access that regional variant's save state from any language setting without having to change the language each time. Handy in this case!

UT is literally EA's biggest financial pillar; it's what is currently propping up all of their retail failures, like Anthem. There's a good reason why EA is fighting tooth and nail against legislation. They can't afford to lose UT, it would cripple them.
-
There's an additional paralax scrolling effect with the clouds in Green Hill Zone and an additional cool underwater ripple effect in Labyrinth Zone. Also some very minor bug fixes. That's it. The US version is also completely identical to the PAL release (PAL version was never even PAL optimised, so running that version in 60hz is the same as the US version). The SEGA AGES release is awesome though! Not only do you get an (optional) spin dash, but you also get an (optional) drop dash from Sonic Mania! You also get the arcade Mega Play version of the game that has never been re-released before! (It has minor level design tweaks, a high score entry table, removal of all extra lives, shortened overall game length and a brutal count-down timer!)
