Speaking of roguelikes @RedShell, did you ever play Dicey Dungeons? It’s one of my absolute favourite games on Switch and I reckon you’d dig it Also… hey! With Twitter now gone from Switch, perhaps Nintendo will see the need for a Miiverse revival on Switch 2! (With blackjack and hookers ).

Woah! It suddenly got proper speedy, it’s almost like a normal website right now! Sweet

Should be a good sendoff to the console. They know it's the Switch's final big Direct, so I'm sure they'll look to go out with a bang, but at the same time; their first party studios can't really be throwing anything too big at the current console because most of their developers will be all-hands-on-deck for the Switch 2's launch window. The only two first party titles I am expecting here are a new Mario Party and the requisite End-Of-Console-Life Kirby game. Otherwise? It's gonna be remaster and remake city... speaking of which... Greezo have been awfully quiet for some time now, and Sakurai did hint numerous times at a Kid Icarus Uprising remaster... A handful of 3rd party timed exclusives are always possible though. Would be real nice to finally see Silksong and Ace Attorney 7 show up this year... just sayin'. Prime 4 will not be here. Aint no way it ends up being anything less than Nintendo's big marquee title for Switch 2's launch day, anything else would be a ridiculous waste of potential and outright harmful to Switch 2's launch window hardware sales. Nintendo's history is littered with examples of games that were cancelled in favour of being moved to successor consoles, and Prime 4 will be no exception here.

Mario Artist Talent Studio - All N64 Games
Dcubed replied to Cube's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I could never play through the game from start to finish in a linear fashion, owing to its somewhat repetitive and sprawling level layouts that end up outstaying their welcome, but I still used to have a blast with this game when jumping around the game with cheats. I suspect that my experience is how most people ended up playing Turok 2 back in the day, because it was also famous for its plethora of cheats that were liberally slathered around gaming magazines of the late 90s. While I doubt I could stomach playing the whole game from start to finish, the weapons are just so imaginative and fun to use that it's worth playing the game today just to mess around with them (which no doubt inspired the creation of the multiplayer-only spinoff, Turok Rage Wars). The exploration-focused level design is also pretty unique within the genre and, while not as platforming heavy as the first Turok, the levels are pretty fun to jump and run around in. This game was a big step up from the original game in terms of tech, level design and presentation, and I do think it's the better game. It's pretty remarkable how much they managed to get out of the console in just a short 1.5 year dev cycle, and this is also the apex of the classic Turok series as we knew it. Turns out that there's a reason for that, and it's because this was the last game that the Iguana Entertainment that we knew ended up producing for Acclaim... because Iguana's founder had just left the company and founded a little known developer called Retro Studios just two months prior to the release of Turok 2, on September 28th 1998. Shortly after Turok 2's release, this game's development team by and large upped and left to join Spangenburg's new Texan venture; and while not everyone ended up sticking around for the entirety of Metroid Prime's development cycle, the lineage of Turok 1 - Turok 2 - Metroid Prime is pretty obvious when you play the three games back to back. Turok 1 & 2 were big wins for NOA, and were probably the two most successful games to come out of their whole Dream Team initiative for the N64. It's not hard to see why they would've been willing to fund Spangenburg's new Texan venture; though ironically, his own venture at the company wouldn't last long, and after a wild period of mismanagement at his own hand, Spangenburg would end up getting outsted from his own company in the year 2000, as Nintendo would end up taking over the company fully and completely changing the way the development studio functioned (including ousting many of its staff who did work on Turok 1 & 2). But either way, you do indeed have Turok 1 & 2 to thank for the Metroid Prime series being made. Not only did they directly lead to the founding of Retro Studios, but the development experience gained on those two titles directly fed into the game design of Metroid Prime itself. -
.Probably this week for the June Direct then

Mario Artist Talent Studio - All N64 Games

Great start to a great series. The first game is a bit basic compared to the later Gamecube entries, but it's still well worth your time. Such a shame what happened to Factor 5, but there's a reason why these games were so beloved during their time, and it's not just because of the high quality visuals. They're simply just some of the best arcade-style free roaming flight combat games out there. They played great, had interesting & multi-faceted mission design and loads of unlockables with just the right level of push & pull in their game design. Even if you're not into Star Wars, just as the ol' N64 Magazine review said, they're thoroughly enjoyable in their own right. -
Oh, and the other stuff is nice too I suppose

SCARS actually looks pretty neat. If it came to NSO, I'd give it a go (of course, that would mean yet another N64 racing game on the service and I think people would start to riot at that point ) -
Yup.... we're.... right.......... ba....ck... in... the doldrums....

August is a pretty weird month to release games in in general, not much that gets released in that month tends to do all that well; which is why most publishers tend to wait until September… Not sure that’s the best choice of date, but we’ll see.

It's definitely better now than it was earlier, it was torture before! Hopefully the site stays in a good mood now...

Yeah, it's proper mollasses right now. That spanner is thoroughly jammed into the forum's gears

The Great Developer Massacre of 2023-2024 (and onwards?)

Damn, this one really sucks -
Holy Necrobump Batman! Don't panic though, I have a reason for the bump... because I just got my hands on some cool shit... Oooooooooooooooohhhhhh! What does THIS USB-C port dooo... I got my hands on another 3DS... but this isn't just any old new 3DSxl, oh no... Because THIS little thing happens to have a Loopy Capture Card built in! Yes! I can now capture 3DS footage and output it to a Windows PC display! Using my laptop, I can now play 3DS games on my telly! And combined with some fancy homebrew software, I can even use a controller (or if I want to get SUPER fancy... I can even use a Wii U Gamepad to display the touch screen, complete with touch screen controls!), wicked! But why stop there? There's one key ingredient missing in this Awesome Sandwich... and it's the 3DS' namesake... But wait! If you recall anything about what I've been wasting your time with reading on these forumholes, you'll know that I have a fancy schmancy Spatiallabs Autostereoscopic 4k 3D display! But unfortunately, these capture cards only support 2D, so there's no way I cou... The 3DS XXXXXXXXXL! After liaising with the maker of the capture card over the last couple of months, the capture card and its associated Windows software now has full support for Stereoscopic SBS 3D! And it KICKS ARSE!!! The 3DS has finally reached its final form. This is so freaking awesome! Those chunky 3DS 3D pixels have never looked so 3D!

Probably. Nintendo usually host their E3 Directs in the second week of June, and they’ve already announced that the next ND is coming this month, so I’d bet on either this Wednesday or Thursday.

Solid show. No major surprises (Well, apart from doing Gears of War 0 instead of Gears 6 I suppose), but everything they showed looks really promising (yes, even Perfect Dark). RIP Xbox Bin though But World Premiere Guy is alive again, so it all evens out
-
So... they've turned Perfect Dark into Mirror's Edge? Well it can't be any worse than PD Zero I suppose! Edit: Deets! https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2024/06/09/perfect-dark-details-interview-xbox-games-showcase-2024/ So it's essentially a Thief-esc immersive sim with Mirror's Edge style parkour mechanics. Well it ain't Perfect Dark, but it looks promising regardless.

Nikoderiko: The Magical World (David Wise!)
Dcubed replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
This is literally We Have Donkey Kong Country Returns At Home, just with a couple of Crash knockoff bonus levels thrown in for good measure. I'm always up for a quality platformer though and, butt ugly character designs aside, this looks pretty promising. Will be keeping an eye on this one -
From what I gather from the various previews I’ve read, that’s exactly what they’re going for as this game’s big gimmick. Which does sound really cool. I hope we get a Puppeteer stage at some point, that game was rad and I’d love to see the scissor mechanic make a return!

Nintendo Switch Online: Game Boy / Game Boy Color
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
They’re sort of remix games that take bosses/weapons/items/themes from their NES counterparts, but have unique levels of their own. They weren’t made by Capcom, but they’re neat curios that offer an alternative take on the NES series; essentially they’re official fan games. Don’t go in expecting anything approaching the quality of Capcom’s own NES titles, but they’re worth taking a look at at least. -

Had never heard of Freak Boy before, sounds interesting. The concept reminds me of Balan Wonderworld, but it sounds like they had grander ambitions than what BW turned out to be. The N64 is a massive goldmine of cancelled projects (certainly the one with the most cancelled 1st Party Nintendo games that we know about). -
Oh and here’s two new character trailers that were also released today… Also, I know this was already changed in KOF15, but I’m very sad that Marco Rodriguez is no longer called Khushnood Butt in the English versions of these games anymore

Was a bit weirded out that we didn’t have a thread for this one, but considering that we just got our first proper trailer today? This one’s for you @S.C.G
