I think it's much more likely that Sony will fight back against Series S/X not by attempting to price match (which would be suicide for Sony), but by buying exclusive content from 3rd parties. Sony's big USP is exclusive content, they know this; we all know this. It makes far more sense for them to double down on their strengths rather than attempt to patch up their weaknesses. If you have been paying ANY attention this past year or so, you will know that this is clearly Sony's game plan. The stuff you've seen them pull so far with exclusive 3rd party moneyhat deals is only just the beginning... I do wonder if Sony would dare to attempt to go after GTA6 exclusivity... Even if it's only timed, that would be serious leverage in their favour... It's the one and only 3rd party title that would be big enough to unequivicably turn the tide in their favour...

The Series X is still the more powerful machine than the PS5 and is also still the primary target; as games are developed for Series X first and then downscaled to Series S. PC games will no doubt start requiring SSDs when DirectStorage comes to Windows as well. Having one target platform is nice, but ultimately the PS5 is still the weaker machine. Sony's developers will ultimately be at a disadvantage when it comes to selling games based primarily off of their graphics.

That's very disappointing, but understandable. The Series S has less RAM than the Xbox One X; so it can't run the Xbox One X versions of games without them being specifically re-coded for the Series S. I suppose it's not a big deal for the people who would be buying it over the Series X though; they're not the people who would, by and large, care about 4k support anyway.

Bare in mind that those videos were not meant for us; they were meant for the media. It was their replacement for their normal in-person media briefing session; and it's clearly how the price/console announcement leak happened. BTW, interesting note in those leaked videos... Looks like Microsoft are not anticipating any significant manufacturing cost reductions throughout the entire console generation this time around... I suspect that they will be sticking at these price points throughout the entire lifetime of these machines; much like what Nintendo have done with the Wii U/Switch and what Apple do. And that whenever they do a mid-gen refresh, they'll just have another set of S/X variations; much like what Apple do.
-
Yeah... I'll stick with the original.

Defo! I honestly did expect that price range, so I was stunned when I saw the actual price! Make no mistake, the hardware IS worth that much. Microsoft will be losing mad amounts of cash on this!
-
Does it come along with a free lawsuit as well?
-
How so? It was obvious that the game wasn't going to be ready. Travis Strikes Again only launched in January 2019; there was no way they could ever hope to release NMH3 with less than 2 years of development time! The fact that they've basically showed no actual footage of the game spoke volumes. Game aint ready yet.
-
TBH, this game was always going to slip into 2021, COVID or not. There was no way it was ever going to be ready to release in 2020.

What games are people playing on their Switch at the moment? None, outside of the occasional bit of Mario Maker 2 and 52 All Time Classics. I’m on a retro gaming binge at the moment and have been since around April/May (outside of Paper Mario: The Origami King and Shantae & The Seven Sirens). Speaking of which, I just got myself a copy of Soul Blazer and started playing it for the first time. It’s great! Loving it so far! What's the next game release you're looking forward to? Pikmin 3 Deluxe (for the new content) How many people are actually picking up Super Mario 3D All-Stars on day one? Guilty. Won’t be playing it for some time though most likely. Unless the urge to play Sunshine takes me (played through SM64 and SMG again not that long ago; but it has been a while since I last played SMS) Which game are you looking forward to playing first? Super Mario Sunshine. Really keen to see if they’ve addressed any of its many flaws!

Yeah, they've done a fantastic job of making the best of a bad situation here.

Of course, that's obviously what Microsoft is banking on. Game Pass is currently a huge loss leader for them, but they're looking towards the long-term. Much like how Netflix was originally a huge money loser that took years and years to start making money; Microsoft are hoping for the same to happen with Game Pass. The subcription price will have to rise eventually; it's inevitable.
-
Oh damn! That's super cool! Might have to give that a go myself! I have the Everdrive X5; it's the best GBA flash cartridge currently available. All these mods work perfectly fine with it.

Buying 12 month XBLG cards to cheat your way into getting 36 months worth of Gamepass Ultimate (with a £276 discount!) was definitely NOT their intention lol! There's a good reason why they've scrapped the 12 month XBLG cards now!
-
Monthly plans usually work out to having you pay more overall. But in this case? It is actually technically less than buying them outright. Now, you can make an argument for not wanting to sub each month (baring in mind that there is no official option to pay anything other than monthly for XBGamePass), but it is actually technically a great deal as far as these things go. It's pretty unheard of to actually SAVE money on a monthly payment scheme! Not that I'd personally advocate for it (Hell, I just gamed the system myself the other day with the current XBLG conversion offer), but I'm genuinely surprised to see some legitimate value in such an offer!
-
It absolutely did not. It squeaked past the 360 right at the tail end of the generation worldwide, but it got completely bodied in the US and UK; and yes, it was outsold in Europe for the first half of the generation. It was only in the latter half of the generation that it regained ground in Europe (Plus it gained a bonus 10 million sales in Japan; which will definitely not happen again - Hell it'll be lucky to outsell the Vita this time around).
-
Looks like I was wrong and you were right! https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-all-access £21 a month is insane! It actually IS cheaper than buying the console outright! (By £10). That's just nuts!
-
PS3 was the more expensive console that played host to worse versions of 3rd party games pretty much across the board. It lost to the 360 (barring Japan - where PS5 will be irrelevent anyway).
-
If you're primarily interested in 3rd party games, there is zero reason to choose a PS5 over the Series X/S. You're paying more for a worse experience. Even if Sony continue to buy timed exclusives, people will eventually just learn to wait (especially if they come to Game Pass for free). Sony's big USP is their range of 1st party titles. This is a game they lost with the PS3 (and that also had Blu-ray movies on its side). And I'm not necessarily convinced that Sony's 1st party output is strong enough to tip the balance in their favour. Sony is not Nintendo; I don't believe that they can carry a console by themselves. People primarily buy Playstations for games like Fifa & COD; not TLOU. For those people who primarily play Fifa & COD, why would they choose a PS5 over a cheaper and more powerful Series X? Especially when they have Gamepass on their side?
-
So I guess we're about to find out if Sony's first party studios are enough to tip the scales when they're beaten out on the 3rd party front? They lost this game with the PS3, but can they pull it off this time? Shall be interesting to see!
-
At this point, why would someone buy a PS5 for 3rd party games? Sony look like they're about to get Nintendo'd... but are their first party exclusives enough to prop a console up on their own? (Well, no doubt they'll pay for even more timed 3rd party exclusives; but man. Being the less powerful AND more expensive console is a bad position to be in...)

Microsoft and Sony are using the same vendors for their parts. How quickly you forget that Microsoft bumped off Sony with the 360; which repurposed parts of the PS3's Cell chip, and where MS got to make use of all those lovely parts that Sony paid all that R&D for from IBM. Microsoft made out like bandits that generation; and there's no reason to believe that either one will get AMD to play favourites either way here. That is really wishful thinking. Sony do not manufacture their own SSDs or NAND chips. They will be sourcing parts from 3rd parties, just like what Microsoft are doing. Only the GPU is substantially better. The rest of the advantages come down to better designed thermals & a larger overall volume. If anything, Sony's custom SSD solution will be their achilles heel in that regard; and it's not unlikely that the PS5 will actually be more expensive to manufacture as a result. At the end of the day, you have to understand that Microsoft is selling these consoles at a massive loss. Something that Sony cannot do in retaliation.

Microsoft are losing stupid amounts of money on these machines (especially the Series S). Sony simply can't afford to bleed as much as Microsoft can; end of. Put this into perspective. A 1TB Gen 4 NVME SSD alone costs about £170-200. That is almost the entire cost of the Series S!! Frankly, I think Microsoft are going to really struggle to make any money whatsoever on this generation of consoles. But to them? This is just a trojan horse to get Gamepass & XCloud off the ground. Their hardware business is fading away in favour of Xbox becoming a Service company (much like Office and Windows). They are willing to burn away billions to make this happen; for the sake of winning the long-game. Where gaming becomes a service, much like how Netflix destroyed traditional television and Streaming TV/Movies now rule the world. Meanwhile? Sony can't afford to do this. Their Playstation hardware/software sales are literally propping up the entire company (well, that and their Insurance division). They literally can't afford to price match Microsoft here. You forgot about the 20% VAT; US prices do not include local state taxes (because they vary from state to state). Add the UK 20% VAT onto the US price and suddenly it translates into £462. For once, the UK actually gets the better deal (and this is post brexit!!). The Series S UK price is a complete fucking miracle compared to the US one! (Which is already stupid cheap!); this never happens!
-
They will not. That is total lalaland. Series X being a mere £449.99 is a fucking miracle. The SSD alone is worth about £200!
-
£449.99 is an amazing price for what this thing is packing! Fucking absurd value. Sony better be willing to bleed if they want to even come close to that price... Oh! And on top of that? Xbox Game Pass now includes the entierty of EA's catalogue, including day 1 releases of Fifa, at NO ADDITIONAL COST! Yeah, this shit is gonna be HUGE in Europe!
