  1. Good game, very underrated. Some very clever mechanics wrapped up in great presentation and good level design. Ristar was clearly a passion project and it's a shame that it never caught on... (Fun fact: Ristar is actually based off a gameplay concept that was originally intended for Sonic 1!) Damn shame that you played the PC version instead of the Saturn original... The controls are an absolute travesty in the HD remaster, let alone the HD remaster when you're stuck with a keyboard! (Even with a controller, the HD version is baffilingly only limited to around 48 degrees of analog movement on all platforms; compared to the 360 degrees of freedom the original Saturn version offered with the Saturn 3D controller - and that's after the update that improved things, it was even worse on its original release!) That being said? I think Nights is really misunderstood by a lot of people (like you yourself said, the game is somewhat obtuse about its goals and overall game design), because it's really an arcade score attack game in disguise. The goal isn't to finish each stage per-say, it's actually to rack up as high a score as possible by going round and round as much as possible and squeezing every last drop of points you can from each level. An outdated concept in 1996? Absolutely. Is it fun? Oh hell yes! I do agree about the field of view though. Even though the original Saturn version supported 16:9 widescreen (back in 1996! Impressive!), it still feels too cramped and you can never quite see as far ahead as you'd like; but you do eventually learn the stage layouts over time if you do get hooked on high score chasing!
  2. I've always found this art hilarious, with that really nervous side mouth smile there as if Sonic's thinking "uh-oh. I don't want them to see me in a pile of shite like this..." The second game's art is even better, with Sonic gesturing "Look elsewhere for a good game dude".
  3. Whenever it comes to selling stuff, you always had to make a tradeoff between convinence and the money you'll actually get for it. You'll always get more for your money selling your bits & bobs individually then you will as a complete set in pretty much every case. As for online sites? There are a few specialist sites out there that will buy retro games from you (like Console Passion and Retrogames.co.uk). I've never used any of them, but they are there. Still, eBay is almost certainly gonna be your best bet. It's more of a hassle, but you'll almost certainly get more for your money there than selling them to a store. What are you putting up for sale anyway? Some of us here on the N-E Forums might actually be interested... If I'm selling stuff, I usually ask around here if anyone is interested before I chuck it on eBay (no seller fees here too )
  4. I've never been a fan of any of the Cruis'n games, but it's great to see a proper Arcade Racer being made in this day and age I've played the cabinet for Blast a couple of times and it's alright. Nintendo own the Cruis'n IP 100% and always have. Midway made the original N64 games (as well as whatever that abomination was on Wii), but Cruis'n Blast is (or rather I should say, was) an arcade exclusive Cruis'n game made by Raw Thrills (a company set up in 2001 by ex Midway staff) released in 2017. Nintendo licensed the Cruis'n IP to Raw Thrills for that release. This is the console port of that 2017 arcade game. One thing that's also notable is that this is Raw Thrills' first ever console release, period. They were previously committed to keeping all of their games arcade only, so this is the first time that any of their games have received a home console version.
  5. Sigh... Missed it again. Whelp. 2/3 missed. One more miss and it’s Strike, I’m out. Come on Nintendo Store! Don’t let me down!
  6. The eShop listing implies that online play is limited to 2 players, while local multi (same system and local wireless) is 1-4 players. Makes sense. Most online 4 player matches would never end, as it inevitably gets filled with jerks grieving others and artificially prolonging matches. Here’s hoping that we also get online custom map sharing!
  7. Good luck finding it on the Nintendo UK store page when it does appear though! So dumb that they removed the specific Amiibo section when they redesigned the site.
  8. I didn’t even know they were up for pre-order yet! That is just bonkers!
  9. Ahh brill! Glad you got it sorted
  10. Richter is from Rondo of Blood (TG16)/Castlevania Dracula X (SNES). Not only did he not debut in SOTN, his role is also merely supportive in SOTN.
  11. Depends if we get enough variants... An 8 player Playstation roster isn’t impossible!
  12. Nabbed! First Special Edition I’ve bought in almost a decade! Worth it for Metroid 5! Gimme that art book!
  13. Ironically, Wii U also happens to have G&WG Advance on the VC; so it can play Zelda G&W too
  14. The Select Glitch lives!!! Well happy they chose the original B&W version of LA! That being said? Utterly baffled why they chose Vermin G&W instead of Zelda G&W. I mean, come on!!
  15. I’m still fucking buzzing from last night!! I haven’t been this excited by a Nintendo lineup in a very long time!! Where the hell has THIS Nintendo been for the last 5 years!?!? Long may it reign!
  16. Honestly wouldn't be surprised. They're based in Tokyo, so Monolith's Tokyo studio helping out makes a lot of sense. I really can't see how they pulled it off otherwise! They did the impossible here!
  17. Ok, that one wins. Metroid Dread will have to settle for second.
  18. I'm shocked at how fully featured the RPG mode looks to be! It actually looks pretty damn close to the GB/GBA games in scope! I'm absolutely blown away, I thought it'd be impossible to pull off for a team as small as Camelot!
  19. Absolutely Majestic!
  20. That game was actually finished in 1996 though, it was just shelved. Not the same situation here. Metroid Dread was never actually finished though... not until this year. It was attempted and cancelled, twice, between 2004-2021. Metroid Dread won the title. And unlike Duke Nukem Forever, it looks like it's actually going to live up to expectations! BTW... I am immensely curious about what "An end to the Metroid story arc" actually means... From the sounds of things, it's not the end of the Metroid series itself, but rather it's an end to the story as has been told since 1986... Is this the end of the Metroids themselves as a threat to the galaxy? If that's the case, would the next game even be able to bear the Metroid series namesake?
  21. God this game looks basically perfect so far! It still feels surreal to actually see Metroid Dread in the flesh after SO LONG... but what's even more surreal is just how amazing it looks! They actually managed to beat my expectations for what Dread could be like! It looks mad fun! With the EMMI being more of an organic AI threat, rather than the scripted sequences that defined the SAX? I can totally see why they couldn't pull this off on the DS way back when... The AI for EMMI is far more complex than anything the SAX could ever do. What also makes me extremely happy is the total lack of nostalgia pandering. I love that they didn't pick the safe option with anything in this game! They could've reused past areas, past enemies, past suit designs for cheap nostalgia pandering... but no! They binned everything and avoided the safe option! Mad respect The only thing I've seen that I'm not happy with is the checkpoint system... I hope that there's at least a Hard Mode that ditches the checkpoints entierly; get that modern AAA trash out of my Metroid! But yes... it's here, it's alive. Metroid Dread has had the longest road from announcement to completion for any video game in the entierty of the history of the medium (Beating even the mighty Duke Nukem Forever by two whole years); but it looks like it might actually be worth the bloody wait!! Metroid Prime 4 kinda just feels like gravy now that we have Dread lol.
  22. I'm guessing it's probably because of the PEGI/ESRB rating. Everything else on Treehouse Live was PEGI 12/ESRB Teen at the highest.
  23. That trailer looked fantastic! God I hope they don't screw this up... Will be hooking up my Gamecube controller and partying like it's 2002!
