Megadave is and always will be one of the best guitarists of all time, no band can continue to do the same thing for over 20 years, it gets stale. Look at Metallica. Listen to other songs. Write about whatever issues feel important to you. Stick to Verse, Chorus, Verse to start with, and then as you get better at writing move onto more complicated song structures.

There's far too many songs that mean far too much to me, so I'm going to keep it short and post the most poignant: Vide Infra, Temple From The Within and Rise Inside by Killswitch Engage; I'm actually getting some of the lyrics from Temple tattoed to my left arm; "I Will Not Lose Myself, In Everything That Tears Me Down" "They Cannot Take Me From Me" "We Stand In Defiance Of Hatred And Deception, The Time Has Come To Make A Difference, Why Have We Forsaken Love...?" Everytime the going gets rough, I think about these lines and what they mean. They strengthen my resolve towards anything.
