  1. COUNT ME IN! *now goes to read the rules...*
  2. I'm thinking the two new character's abilities are somehow linked, like when they're together they sort of control each other's power or something... Hiro's story seems... well a bit pointless at the moment. So he's clearly going to make sure the tales he heard as a kid will still happen. But what else will we learn from his trip to the past? More of the sword and the symbol, I guess... I enjoyed the episode. Sure, it wasn't OMG OM GOGMOGM everywhere, but it was a nice way to get back into the flow of things, and promises many exciting things. I'm looking forward to meeting the other characters from teh first season too.
  3. Certainly, but I don't think they should be disrespected for having faith either. The second paragraph shows how religion likes to only take the good stuff. If something (e.g. Genesis) doesn't make sense, people keep reinterpreting everything into metaphors until they can believe it. If something cannot be reinterpreted over and over until it does make some sense (like the evil Old Testament God) people just choose to ignore it. The bottom line is, those people end up believing only the things they want to believe (this is one of the greatest flaws in the human mind) and end up claiming it is the truth. I do think you are over-exaggerating about how difficult or veiled the bible is in what it means on the most part, but I do agree that the governing bodies of religion tend to perhaps twists parts to suit their own beliefs. For sure there are parts of the bible that don't necessarily make a direct sense, but these are (to me at least) akin to fables, where not everything is a symbol but rather the story has a moral to be learnt. I just don't see the difference between a bunch of bible bashers going round yelling "You're an idiot if you don't believe in god" and atheists saying "you're an idiot if you do". Regardless of what is factual or true or not, as you say, nobody is going to believe what they don't want to believe. So long as it's harmless, it's alright Science changes constantly, as because of that, what we perceive as truth and fact also changes over time too. A pretty vague and non-helpful statement, but meh
  4. 5.Which famous author of the 19th Century was sentenced to death but later granted a reprieve? (1 point) Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Idiot.
  5. Other threads on this forum don't seem to bothered about 'keeping on topic' so I'm going to reply to Oxigen_Waste, because he replied to me and it would be rude not to pursue this conversation If you have a problem with it, just don't read it. Shino phrased it better than I did in my entire, large post. The book, whoever the author, wasn't written for this time. Having said that, it doesn't mean that there aren't things in there that modern humans cannot take and use effectively. I agree that those things must be earned, but it doesn't mean to say that everybody instinctively knows how to do this, which is why sometimes people look for guidance. Leviathans is the main book that I can think of which is very specific about how to live - all that crap about not laying in the same bed as your brother's wife and all that - about being 'dirty' and staying 'clean' and whatever. Personally, if I had any faith it would be in the new testament - the teachings of Jesus rather than the punishments of an over-zealot god that you find in the old testament. But anyway - I'm not christian, I'm not preaching, I'm just defending the right of others to have faith and justifying why it's not an incredably stupid thing to do. There. You can have your topic back. My views on the creation of the universe are not really serious, and mostly just the culmination of several stoned theories that sound cool.
  6. I think the main thing individuals derive from the Bible is a sense of purpose and self-worth. I don't particularly believe that any of the metaphorical allegories (lol) actually took place, or that there was ever a melevolant old-testament stylé God, or that there is a new-testament good guy looking over us all and steering us, but so what if others choose this? Another person's faith can only be a bad thing if they choose to force their views upon you - or upon an entire nation for whatever reason. From one point of view (that is, one who sees that peace is a desirable thing) the bible has taught many individuals, tribes, cultures and nations how to respect one another by in a sense distinguishing themselves from animals. Manners, faith in life and laws are all in the bible; simply a conduct book to help people stand and understand the company of others. This, I think, is something anyone can take from a religion if they look for it - compassion and respect for yourself, for others and for life. The bible is a book of lessons first and foremost; a guide to how to treat others.. How to live in this world and it's conditions. But the other point of view is that the book is instructions, that reading it and believing or having faith in the advice it presents is somehow allowing oneself to become brain-washed... I like to consider that if you think of the original way the "word of God" was circulated, you can understand why the book is written the way it is, and perhaps be able to realise that it was not written in the way it would be today.
  7. .. surely just choose one of your favourite songs, and paint what you see when you sit there, eyes closed, listening to the music and what it means to you? /emo.
  8. I had two. One died.
  9. I don't know if this was retorted on or not yet... but you phrase it as if you tihnk being an agnostic is still a valid choice for yourself, and I would have thought that it wouldn't be a comprehendable position for a true believer - the remote possibility of God not existing, why, surely that's just a route bound to hell for any christian out there? I kid. Just some lame referrence to Satan in Paradise Lost. n/m.
  10. lolz bluejay. the image reminds me of eerie indiana (the tv show).. i feel like I should know it but argh :'(
  11. ... yeah but this is a whole channel... Well I guess it's a silly name, but it sounds like it'll have a decent bunch of shows - and on freeview too! Woo! Just need a freeview box now...
  12. Oh I suppose not. I just have a bug in me that is against monster topics which are more like chat rooms than threads, enveloping as much diverse debate potential as possible, but that's just me being a forum fogey.
  13. I'm pretty sure the word sexuality is entirely to do with sex. You wouldn't answer "what sort of sexuality are you?" with "Married!", would you? Anyway, the point is this thread has generally been a bit more heavy on the "LGBT Thread" part of the topic title. I've found it more interesting for that. Are you saying that if I started a new (or rehash of several old..) topic about relationship problems, this thread would claim roller's rights to that discussion?
  14. You might sleep, but you'll never dream. Onward! Progress! Or so it seems. You might laugh, but you'll never smile. Come on in and waste away awhile. When dreams of rings of flowers fade and blur, giving way to that familiar ill come over and part your soft white curtains where I'm waiting for you still. If you'd unlatch the window, if you'd let me lay there on your floor, if you'd give me another chance, if you'd forget the pain I caused before. No use in saying how I'm sorry, so I'm trying not to speak. I'll sing in silence, lay beside you. With my face there on your cheek, my stomach swears there's comfort there, in the warmth of the blankets on your bed. My stomach's always been a liar- I'll believe it's lies again. mewithoutYou.
  15. Ant... Stop using capitals at teh start of nouns or whatever - it makes me think you talk like a robot. As for the girl - well shucks, stop fucking trying to contact her. You make it seem like she doesn't have to do any work at all to keep you - if that's what you want. If you really are after running away, then it's the easiest thing in the world in one sense - you just gotta do nothing. Let her contact you, let her explain herself, then PUNCH her in the face and go live with your aunt and uncle in bel-air! Or something. I just broke up with my girlfriend after we got back together for 2 weeks after she broke up with me for 6 weeks after we spent two years together. Sigh. So yeah, trust me, what you're going through is easy. ... This isn't very sexuality-related, is it? Wasn't there a 'relationship problems' thread or something?
  16. Apparently it's called just "Jesus" these days.. Iunno... Yeah "I will play my game..." always reminds me of winter trips on the train. "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot" and "Okay I Believe you..." I can always listen to, and "Geurnica" (..spelling) is immortal for the line "i wish i could shrink myself somethingsomething remove whatever makes you hurt but I am too weak to be your cure". "Millstone" on the latest album was my alone-cigarette anthem for the best part of 5 months. Hell, all the lyrics are great! You ever hear the 'leaked' album? Supposedly 9 tracks they recorded at the time of Deja entendu, but left out.
  17. couldn't exactly remember what they look like though... BOOM HEADCRAB!
  18. aside from actually adding to any discussion - i'll do that later - I just want to say; What gives with all these "OFFICIAL" threads? Why are they official? Couldn't this just be a thread about the american candidates or whatever, rather than an attempt to engulf all matters political? At least that way there might be lots of little threads rather than one ginormous unfollowable thread...
  19. as I said in some other thread... Good choice! Which songs/albums you like? I'm guessing not Your Favourite Weapon...
  20. ^ that's a good list there. It's easy to eat junk all the time though... Chicken fillets are good to add to pasta or rice or noodles along with a sauce - mostly been buying the sauce but a couple of spoons of pesto and a jar of chopped tomatoes works damn well. It's always fun to get a pizza base and add your own toppings, or even try to make a stew with leftovers from All Of The Above that Shorty mentioned. Oh, and toasted sandwich makers are good. Ham and cheese and a sauce of choice, or sundried tomatoes, bacon, or bananas and chocolate, or beans... A true crowd pleaser and always a nice, warm and filling snack.
  21. LIKE I SAID. I didn't do it PROPERLY. shut up and do it yourself.
  22. shit... i can't believe the sheer amount of crap some people have on their profiles. They should at least have the decency to re-arrange their page so it's all under their wall. this is my profile. of course, you won't be able to see it unless you add me! .. I just made an N-Europe group as I searched for one and couldn't find it. it's a pile of poo, but it's here and stuff, so join plz.
  23. what? I didn't correct them in the edit. Eevil you didn't score in round 8 so you only got one point in round nine... If you're complaining about the other scoreboard then note it says "up to round 7". I've not edited those scores to account for all the 2-pt scorers, but the results of that round were Answers: 1) Post your Meaningless Post of The Day (Motion) 2) Ashley (Shadowv7) 3) General ChitChat (Cube) 4) Your top 5 (EchoDesiato) 5) Wii Discussion (My Buttons are magic) 6) Guitar Hero (Owario) 7) Other Consoles (Fresh) 8) Fierce Link (Haggis) 9) N-Europe Foums (Coolness Bears) 10) Birthday Thread (Emo) ... and the results for round 9 are here. So you can add them up and add the scores to the top scores on the first page. quit moaning at least i tried
