  1. I spend about £5 a week on tobacco. Why? Should I save up for running shoes instead?
  2. with legalisation comes raised awareness of the effects, both positive and negative, and controlled production meaning less harmful rubbish would be mixed in with the substances. A large percentage of theft and violence crime is to do with drugs in one way or another - trafficking, gang disputes, or just stealing to pay for an addiction. Making part of the cycle 'overground' would reduce the anonymity around who could be doing the crimes. People seeking help would not feel like outcasts, and would be more likely to admit they have a problem. It's not a black and white situation. Drugs can be fun, and recreational use is harmless in general - it's vandalism and social disorder, like alcohol, that cause the main problems that actually effect most people in society. I like the idea of a new heirarchy including all substances, rating them probably in terms of self- and social-harm. Legalisation would mean research into what the drugs do physically and mentally would be carried out, and everyone would learn about them more. We already know that many drugs have medicinal use, traditionally painkillers, and I think it's narrow minded to not see them as having any positive aspects. The fact is there will be problems surrounding drugs whether they're legal or not. From a government's POV, legalisation would be better control, more 'big-brother'-esque information on individuals, and more tax profits! For a drug user's POV, the drugs would be cleaner, eventually less taboo (as they already are in the circles of society that use them) and help would be more readily available. Society's POV would mean safer streets, an increase in knowledge (which is always a good thing). The only problem that comes with legalisation is, like smoking and drinking, people are worried that more people will take it up or give it a go. Statistics already show that the numbers go up, and the age where people try these things is going down. Of course there would be problems surrounding this stuff, i can imagine the first uproar when schools begin their Drugs education classes will be louder than the first sex ed ones, but I can also imagine us, as human beings, being able to realise that we think drugs are bad because we've always been told it's that way. They shouldn't be seen to be as evil as they are being portrayed. A lot of drugs are natural, and there are benefits as well as dangers in everything natural - the weather, animals, plants, whatever. You are always the one with the choice - to take drugs or not; to tell your kids about sex before they're 16 or not; to study french or not; to join the army, whatever. People who are going to take drugs will do it if it's legalised or not.
  3. ^ that would be me,then... Smoking doesn't guarentee smoke-related death. Sure, it's loads more likely than never smoking in the first place, but it's not your choice to make. are people stupid if they don't eat 5 fruit/veg a day? if they have more than their RDA of saturated fat, or salt? If they sleep less than 4 hours a night, or more than 7? If they sit with their laptops on their laps, stand in front of microwaves, talk on their mobiles a lot? What about doing things that stop them from doing other, better things? Like playing computer games instead of studying? Going out for a drink instead of doing press-ups? The fact is, we all do something, small or not, that isn't good for us, or isn't the best we could do for ourselves. The main problem non-smokers have is how it affects their OWN health, and that isn't something you can blame every single smoker for, considering I've probably only blown smoke into the face of one (maybe two) forumers here (:P). You've got your pubs, train stations and restaurants now. Be fucking grateful. Passive smoking really isn't that harmful outside amongst the toxins from the cars you drive and fuel you burn. You're all, what, over 15 right? that's 15 years of living in the same world as smokers. You're all doing fine, right? No hospital visits for smoke inhalation? Good. Quit complaining about things that aren't even happening. Complain about teh bad things smokers have done to you, but don't intone that we're all the same.
  4. ... The pictures are harmless... TV's are weird because they're unusual. People just don't know what to think. The fact is all you're seeing in these pictures is a man in a dress. Eddie Izzard parades around on stage for hours like that. Lily savage was successful for a few years. Fields; i really can't believe you're saying it's "sick in the head" and "wrong", and complaining about the direction of society and liberality... It's pretty narrow minded to think that, isn't it? I think in general people are having a problem with Rokhed's actual posts. Personally I don't think there should be any censorship on teh words we're allowed to use, but users should be aware when entering a thread that they are doing so at their own risk - which is why i think his posts that are being complained about here were acceptable at the time. Loads of users joke about rape and penises and sex and masturbation all the time in loads of threads. I don't find it funny but I don't think it's sick in the head. Motion - surely by posting the quotes into an unrelated thread you are yourself exposing these sick images to a whole new arm of forumites? Surely taht's as much your fault for repeating the words as it is the author of the words.
  5. Those aren't all really fair options - i mean you can't necessarily do all of those with anything you watch on tv, you know. Having said that, I think i've done at least three of those things. I thought a similar sort of thing before Shorty actually got me watching some. You'd be surprised how good they can be! Focusing merely on the 'anime' part of anime is like focusing on the fact that there's 22 men running around on the pitch in football. Sure, it's true, but that's not the reason you watch it, is it? I've seen anime's about ninjas, pirates, high school, board games, tennis, robots... It's all a fantasy world. Like computer games, there's a lot of sub-genres, and it's rather narrow minded to say you'll never like any anime. It's not just a cartoon!
  6. well if you count the votes plus those two down the well, that leaves two players who haven't voted. Chairdriver, can you, I dunno, get onto them? I mean, this round is taking a long time...
  7. saw a Saw 4 poster on a bus! October 26th! Omg!! I r excited!
  8. hey! I'm a smoker! There was a similar thread to this not too long ago and the general argument went as follows; "I choose to smoke, so don't damage my freedom!" "well I choose to not breathe your smoke so fuck you!" "ok well I choose to not smoke near you, so stop having a go at me" "well you only do it because you think it looks cool or your friends do it" "shut up" and repeat.
  9. then you must be grateful of the ban good! a lot of smokers support it, so long as they are still able and free to smoke somewhere on this planet.
  10. is candice really dead though! she might have made the whole scenario up. I think the venezuelan twins are in danger of being stereotyped as "the guys who somehow get separated every episode". having said that, it looks like the guy's powers are getting more refined every time. And what of Noah's portrayed death? I would say the death is surely guarenteed. The paining made it look like claire didn[t care, as she was busy kissing that flying guy. Hiro's story got cooler He's surely going to return to the future at some point but maybe not until a lot later on. Peter's story is intriguing. Personally I would've looked in the box anyway. I'm sure he'll return to america eventually, but most likely that story will cntinue- i say this mostly because of the quality of actors involved in his stories. Er.... Yeah! Micah and nikki are back! DL apparantly dead... to be honest it's really hard to believe if any of the characters are dead forever, thanks to this 'cain' character. The implications as to why he would keep anyone alive are very interesting to the story! Bring onnext week
  11. You sound as if you're accusing all the bad things in society to cigarettes. I think alcohol is far more damaging to society. People can enjoy a drink so why can't they enjoy a cigarette without the constant "you're stupid!" name-calling? Surely if us smokers are beneath you, it calls for pity not arrogance? Personally I don't care. As i said in the last smoking thread, it's a personal choice. I don't think it's fair that people who have never smoked think they are automatically a better person altogether just because of it.
  12. I do see what you mean, but I'm not convinced that proves your innocence, because of the specific wording that Chairdriver used in regards to Stuwii's death in Mundi's house. I still don't see enough evidence to persecute strider, as Shino's double investigation doesn't say what happened either time he investigated, or why he did it a second time. Surely doing it twice means the first time said he wasn't in the mafia in one way or another, and we don't know the result of the second one. There are tyre marks at the scene of this crime which suggests someone left the body at strider's home. Suspicious certainly, but as I say, the earlier matter of Mundi's involvement with Stuwii's death is problematic still.
  13. I must say, your wording makes me suspicious! Aaah this game is eeevil... You said "if mundi were in teh mafia it wouldn't have helped him tun in martinist for us"... Your use of "us" suggests an agreement with the object in your sentance - the Mafia.. i.e. you consider yourself in the "us" and in teh mafia.. maybe a freudian slip? Hmm! i agree, the mafia wouldn't have knowingly turned martinist in - but the mafia didn't know that he was a traitor, so for all intents and purposes, they executed a townie. I can't find enough evidence to suspect strider more than i do mundi. Shino investigating strider twice is odd, but ultimately I can't say whether this proves strider to be one thing or another. How can I say what it means when surely Shino didn't know himself? The evidence surrounding Stuwii's death is still something that, for now, convinces me that Mundi was involved. Last time he was suspected he gave us someone else to lynch, which was a good enough reason to suspend suspicion - but why wait this time? I'm going to vote for the individual I believe has the most evidence against them, i'm afraid.
  14. Chairdriver said that the mafia didn't know that martinist was a traitor. We've all voted out townies and mafia so far, so i don't think what your saying is really clearing you in my eyes at the moment.
  15. Moogle; it's all stuff i'm trying to figure out last night at about 4am I was making a notepad file trying to pinpoint clues throughout this thread... I didn't save it, but I remember there being two things next to your name - one was about you saying things about others in girls clothing... :S I didn't save it but i'll do it again tomorrow night and see what I can dig up! Top of my list is someone else, and also figuring whether G1obo1a (or whatever the name is) is not playing because he is in the mafia or a townie, and whether it's worth suggesting he gets accused sooner or later.
  16. Just been going over the previous pages for clues... aaand that, to me, suggests that Mundi is a baddie... I was tempted to go for strider because of what moogle said, but i'm slightly suspicious of moogle's involvement in martinist's death... Vote: Mundi
  17. ... It does not.
  18. Ed Wood Certainly felt like a Burton film, aside, of course, from the lack of an Elfman soundtrack. It's a semi-fictional biopic-ish about 'the worst director ever' - certainly a topic I'm interested in now I've started watching MST3k again. The guy has 3 entries in that show, which is quite impressive. Anyway, also like all Burton films, you ought to be a little miserable about something in order to immerse yourself in the sad characters portrayed. 7/10 The Hudsucker Proxy Awesome film Hadn't seen it since I was about 8, but it's great. It has Tim robins as the (un)lucky squirt whom, on his first day in the mail department, gets chosen by the board of directors to be a puppet, aimed at steering the company into downfall - only our hero goes and invents the hula hoop! Charming film, even has the legend that is Bruce Campbell in it. One of my new-favourite films.. 9/10 Pi. Never watched more than the first 20 mins, and never with the sound on - so this was something I'd been looking forward to for a while. The bizarre and unique premise involving the jewish, japanese Go, the number Pi and a wall street corporation isn't perfect, but it's charming in its quirkiness. Darren Aronofsky's films are worth watching at least to see how generic most other films are to each other. 9/10
  19. hey, cool - at least she knows what caused it. My retina did the same thing for no reason at all! Maybe i'll smoke for 20 years to balance that out.
  20. so what, the village idiot anhd the policeman fought and left the body at strider's? I am confused. Also I've been looking at that list of names and i've not seen G1mb01a post at all in this thread. Chairdriver, are they still playing?
  21. would of = would've. Gets to me. Anyway, personally I don't really give much of a shit about it all. Cameron is sly and I don't trust him, but politics is about spin not honesty, so meh.
  22. wooo another smoking thread! *leaves*
  23. well weed's the most likely thing. Bear in mind, though, that if he's an asshole it's not smoking pot that's going to be the reason. I would recommend the main pursuit should be the theft, not the character judgement though. It doesn't sound like he's completely 'after' you - he could be hassling you much worse. You say the principal is doing something about it, I would recommend doing your project from a friend's copy, or maybe check the library. I'm sure even if they don't have any copies to lend out they'd have a reference copy, and you could do your work in teh library?
  24. What kind of drugs exactly? Don't worry about teh text book. You don't have to pay a penny - it's not like the school can steal the money off of you, so just flat out refuse.
  25. Where did she put my socks?
