  1. Y'see, this sort of debate is exactly what I was talking about the other day. You're refusing to accept any simile to be drawn between the relationship between 'guitars and guitar hero' and any other real/'simulated experience. war/war games, skating/skate games, msn/talking.. the list goes on... You re rejecting each on a difference criteria, and ultimately none of them are comparable to the subject at hand simply because you're talking about guitars instead of football, skating, guns, girls, cars, whatever. The fact that you're demanding why others should list reasons why you should have it is banal and backwards. So all this time you're saying "drop GH, pick up a G instead" and now it's "now you've spent £shitloads and you're having no fun, you should probably quit", despite this being half the argument against learning? Previously you've described music making as 'art'. Perhaps this is the difference? Art vs. Imitation. You're wanting everyone to appreciate Gaudi while they're happy staring at playboy? Whatever teh case on that aspect - the fact is that not everyone wants to learn to play the guitar, not everyone enjoys learning to play the guitar (I have one friend in particular who has spent over £600 on guitars/amps and just totally failed to learn properly), and not everyone has time or effort to go into learning. My main point though; your arguing is flawed and unfair. Would comparing other games be better? Why play donkey konga when you can simply learn to play the bongos? Why play DDR when you can leran to dance? Why play that maracas game when you can learn maracas? Hell, remember that old game-and-watch called 'Ball' where you got to make sure this guy keeps three balls in the air? Yeah, why not just learn to juggle? Oh, yeah, right. Because people don't want to.
  2. I can understand that my massively lengthy posts are perceptively over-the-top for a dude simply stating that he thinks drugs are bad, but my 'argument' is an attempt to address more than just scubahood's views; rather it is the general idea that there is some sort of right/wrong definitive about it all. I do disagree with that being the crux of his argument. I disagree that he has any personal experience with such a 'fate' which he might feel the desire to protect others from. If one regrets simply having tried a drug, then that's fine. But to correlate between a skim-of-the-surface and a full-blown depth-delving experience is something I want to highlight. Simply thus; if you try drugs and do not like it, it does not mean that other people that do take drugs cannot enjoy it. I am guilty profusely of using far too many words for too simple a point.
  3. is it Radiohead?
  4. well jeez if you're going to ignore one point of my post instead of the other points, then your opinion in general on teh subject clearly means very little. Especially when you say "crack is whack". You tried it? Me? Twice. Please continue your blinkered retorts!
  5. maybe issue #1 of gamesTM signed by Shigeru Miyamoto? I remember the queue for the signings and a lot of people had issue 4, but I didn't see one person with issue 1. That's about all I can think of!
  6. in response to Scubahood and Emasher; sounds like the problem is with teh person, not the drug. See, sounds to me like what he does has nothing at all to do with weed. :| As you went on to say; you describe weed as a 'hit' where eventually the hit simply isn't good enough, so the dope-fiends move onto highballs and shit? I don't pretend to know it all myself, but I can bet I've seen a lot more people with a lot more years of weed behind them - I know people who have overdosed on all sorts. I've met crack addicts, spent the night in squats and "CWAK DENZ" (tip: stay upstairs), ok? The majority of the people who do class A drugs have most likely taken weed. This isn't a fact, it's a guess, but an educated guess. But to say that means that weed caused them to go higher is just plain ignorant. If an individual has no self-control, then something's going to happen to them. Do drugs, rob a bank, mug someone, rape... if you don't have self control then how are you going to keep such urges together? So what harder drugs have you tried? What measurements? What price did you pay? Did you enjoy any of them? If not, then why did you keep trying different ones (note the pluralisation in your post; "harder drugs")? Do you have no self-control? Are you a mindless idiot seeking to destroy yourself like the neanderthals like me and my friends? It boils down to the individual who takes the drug, and their awareness of what they're doing, and the consequences. Even if you think drugs are bad you have no right to stop them taking it if they want... I would say you have more of a moral right to tell them about both the good and bad aspects to drugs. [tangent]Man, the world is so complicated, isn't it? The relationship between two beings, two objects, a being and an object, an idea and an object, a being and an idea, someone elses idea, communication... Nothing is equal, nothing is the same. Yet we all try and label other things using different things in an attempt to explain them, but they can never be explained, or understood. All I vow to do is to understand the importance of just how impossible it is to be 'right' about near enough anything. Perhaps I just get defensive/argumentative because other people are so damn certain that they're right and a whole bunch of other people are wrong. To what extent are they wrong? 100%? Is it impossible for them to have circumstances to suggest they're not wrong?[/tangent] Man, I really really want to just get stoned with someone who knows what I mean right now.
  7. Stayed up 'til 6am. Saw the snow start at just gone 5; sledable rooftops at quarter past. I'd actually ordered two pizzas and garlic bread at about 9pm, and I've still got a couple of slices to munch through. Watched Dirty Harry, The Graduate and Good Will Hunting yesterday. Will watch the Back to the Future trilogy and American Psycho today, while working up the effort to go across the road and buy some more tobacco, smoking the dregs until I do. Going to Huddersfield tomorrow 'til weds or thurs, so I'll need to pack some sort of kitbag. Mates haven't told me what I will/won't need, so this is going to go badly. I think I'll take my dressing gown as a blanket just in case... Ok jimbob; just to clarify this 'her' is an ex. I'm afraid all I've noticed is that everytime you go out she's there trying to talk and get along. What happened? Sounds like they invited you out late because they didn't want to cause the arguing that happened last time. You have to be careful, if you friends get tired of it, they may get tired of you. Is sitting and talking to her totally out of the question?
  8. That's another point - I know people who do pills and coke but won't touch weed! They're into clubbing and thus their choice is geared towards enjoying the music more. Well I was way more anxious than you can imagine each time I tried it over the last year. If you're a truly paranoid person then best thing to do is to do what I do now - get a spliff's worth, be in your favourite place in/outdoors with a pen and paper, a couple of movies and a large pack of crisps/pack of frankfurters/boursin/whatever munchies you can get a hold of.
  9. Sorry, but that's a little bit silly. More than once and BANG they think differently? Dude, nearly every teenager tries it more than once. I'm hard pushed to think of someone I know who hasn't tried it more than twice, and I know a lot of people who aren't nutters. Hell, both of my parents smoked lots during the 70's. Big surprise? Nope. Of course it wasn't as full of THC back then, but I'm sure they made up for the difference. Did their minds alter? Perhaps. I think the term that was used then was something like "free your mind, dude" because weed allows the brain to perceive differently. The mind alters continuously. Recently I've sort of had a staggered-steps set of minute realisations about how I view the world differently now, thanks to my experience and so forth. It's not necessarily a bad thing. It can be quite a good thing. I agree with the general 'recreational use is ok' theory, because overconsumption of anything is going to be bad for you. Drugs are enjoyable but society dictates that we cannot allow ourselves (or indeed our fellow man) to become hooked on pleasure. WORK is important to keep the economy running! That's what laws are for. The country needs to maintain a rising level of workers to keep the money mill churning, right? Personal experiences? I spent 'bout 18 months hanging around with two of the biggest stoners. I'd smoke a spliff on the way to college, have one at break time, go to my english or philosophy class (if it was psych I'd probably skip it) then have a spliff on the way to my stoner pal's house, and when I got there she'd offer me a pint of gin and lemonade and another spliff, then the three of us would sit around watching south park/cannibal holocaust/whatever we could find, smoking a couple of spliffs an hour. Then they'd pack me off at 2am with another spliff for the home journey. Sometimes I'd stay over, and if that was the case I'd often end up going straight from there to work or college. I never went to work on thursday nights sober, one way or the other. You knew summer arrived when you had that first outdoor spliff in the heat, getting high from the temperature too. We started taking trips around the city, discovering little pockets of no-man's-land over walls, up trees and behind boarded-up windows. We'd walk in the middle of the bypass at 3am singing. Having bong hits in a school field in the middle of a school day while the kids are all in class... We painted coconuts. Shot fat people with BB guns from the bushes. Played around with air horns. We had deep, serious conversations that gave me a serious head-start when I studied AS philo and AS/A2 psych... and English, too. It was fun. It was the best part of my life so far. Would I do it again? Hell yeah. It's made me who I am today. I'm not saying there's not a negative side, though. I've passed out, thrown up, nearly been beaten up and been scared shitless with paranoia. It got so bad I had to give it up for over a year. But recently I've started smoking it a bit more; pretty much exclusively when I know I can sit and chill for the 4 hours after the spliff with a movie or two and get myself utterly absorbed into it. I put a lot less weed into a doobie, enjoying the ride. This isn't a very structured post or anything, so I apologise for that. I just woke up.
  10. The Graduate ... Shamefully, this was the first time I've seen the film... And it was way better than I thought it would be. Makes me both wish I was a tween in the 60's, and makes me want to watch Wayne's World again 8.3/10
  11. Haha, I should've known Well can we narrow it down further if we remove creoles and pigeon languages, or are they not counted?
  12. three cans of cider and already you've lost control of your motor functions? Dude the meet-up is going to be HI-larious.
  13. I'll guess... English! Not going to be right, but it'll narrow down the suspects to, what, 246 or something?
  14. There was a thread with this a few weeks back, wasn't there? It's awesome, though. I'll do one later - just got pizza delivery yattaaa
  15. O_W; You're arguing this? No, seriously? *shakes head*
  16. Man, easter eggs; I'm rather glad I'm not going home this festive period as I reaaally can't afford to buy stupid eggs for my stupid friends and stupid family stupid stupiders. Last few days I've had my cousin up to stay. Basically been drowning in cider, going to bed at 5am after manic gaming/movie sessions, waking up waay past midday, then drinking some more. Fun but... well I tend to usually sleep through my hangovers. Having my cousin here meant I had to get up a few hours early. Also he has practically no money, so I've been spending a fair bit on booze and food... So now a weekend contemplating the possibility of giving up booze for a month in may, and seriously cutting down on fags while getting more exercise. Good luck, my future-self. Please don't get too depressed.
  17. That's practically fish, you're fine. I had tuna pasta for breakfast, so I guess I'm a-ok? Got a tin of corned beef that's been giving me the eye for a while now, that I might just guzzle down with a tin of beans and a stack of bread and a moat of pot-noodle. I came thinking about it.
  18. I say we tear everything down - all the buildings, all the roads, all the train lines, all the factories, then do a big ol' Sim City and rearrange everything strategically and logically, so that we don't have large concentrations of people in cities and large masses of open, pretty useless space. Dilute everything into everything else so that roads can take the cars efficiently, that we don't have to commute, and so on, and so on. *carries on dreaming*
  19. I wasn't sure, and the clue didn't tell me it wasn't 65daysofstatic, in an odd sort of way. Anyway - Yattaaa! I kickass.
  20. 6 - 65daysofstatic ? I know I know it >_< argh!
  21. Oh dear. My defense and goalkeeper are apparantly "on fire", but my midfield and forwards are just doing dire. What was that second-season-syndrome people mentioned? As I think I got that. *cries*
  22. Fuck. Showing in sheffield early june... not sure if I'll be here. Probably in brighton. Showing in brighton at the wrong time, too, as I'll be in sheffield... Last option is to go to see it in Leeds in May at the cinema that is literally around the corner from my ex-girlfriend's house. Fuck.
  23. deep, into that darkness, peering. Long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting... Apart from the the "out" you're spot on though Love that game. Anyway! This book. It cool. I read it at the same time as The Outsider and Brave New World, so they all remind me of each other, and there are themes between and accross them that are similar, so I recommend you check them out if you like 1984 As for the film version; the sex scene wasn't a patch on the book
  24. they never started, Chairdriver. Srsly; just stop posting if that's all you can say.
  25. Aight, well consider this post automerge-defence.
