  1. But obviously now I totally have to change the list so that something more cult/underground/classic takes precedent :P Loving how my opinions on these matters only count just as the movie appears!! Dan-Lies-trees! I recently read, and probably said so in here, I Am Legend and watched all three films based on the text. I did enjoy the kinda-backwards, kinda-dated book quite a lot, but I still think the will smith movie is the best out of all of them (well- the book does have the best, most kick-ass ending). Currently reading Just Another Empire by Mark Driver. A mate gave me this signed copy of a rather self-conscious, 4th-wall-breaking first-novel from some dude who, like with books like Ishmael, rather seems to want to push his world-view over more than allow a reader to decipher a moral; a lack of ambiguity and a rather fierce, dogged desire to be unique prevent the reader from seeping into the story, and often while he's telling his story I'm waiting for his self-referential bits, and vice-versa. But the thing is, I could've written this. I do write like this. If anything, the book has perhaps mildly swelled my anger at capitalism and imperialism (via the rather awesomely, and aptly, named Beauregarde du Spoiler, of 17th century New Orleans and his freed-slave wife Clarissa who, in their leaderless frontier-esque town, live carefree lives until the french turn up and demand the locals to start paying the king's tax) but, *breathes*, generally I like this book for the way it makes me realise that I can write - as good as this guy. I just need to stop ending the previous sentence with "maybe. I think," all the time. Next up: Dice Man! Me and Dan Dare are gonna have to go on a couple of gaycore dates to see TTW and The Road, methinks. You bring the chocs, I'll bring the flowers!
  2. That's why it's my favourite thing ever, and I said I wouldn't use it as it annoyed Jayseven or something, but I promise that it wil be brought out if I ever have to see a film AS bad as that. Since, as you say, it sums up how I feel about the film. I'm dealing with it. sweet on the 'dealing'. Shame about your ignorance SKILLZ Well, I'm not sorry. I'll try to never use it ever again. Hard. I am dealing with it. That's great. This post is way better than it was when we spoke as two.
  3. I think you have it figured -- keep promises to yourself. If elements out of your control impinged upon your ability to carry out the promise you save face by not announcing a promise to the promised. Get me? I mean, they'll not be as forgiving as you are to yourself. I've made some promises aloud before that I've not kept, and to this day I feel pretty bad about them, and I'm certain that people thought of me differently. Hence Paj gonna get a wee whup for the madonnagif. :P
  4. RE: Subtitled films; I'm hard of hearing, so I'm inclined to have subs on anyway when I watch a movie by myself -- but I can hear well enough to notice that subtitles certainly offer an 'abridged' version. It's always curious. Glad more people are getting around to it. Check out other Richard Linklater stuff, particularly Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (in that order). There's a scene in Waking Life which actually occurs after both of these movies, despite Sunset coming out last. Linklater's ambitious 10-year project is out next year -- he's shot parts of it each year for a decade to capture... well, the actor's aging, as well as the development in skill and ability and other somehow-layered things[/geek]. Otherwise, if you want more talkey, then The Man From Planet Earth, maybe What the Bleep Do They Know?, consider Short Cuts. For thinky - Koyanisqaatsi (should come with a warning level on, as you may become a hippie afterwards). If you watch all of these then you'll've seen four of my favourite movies. Feck. What did I say I'd do? Warning right?
  5. circus festival, showed mates around brighton, trimmed my hedge, passer-by said "looking good", bbq on beach, swimming, sunburn, isle of wight, caravan, home-made hoummous and falafal, carnival, old people band, £100, job-get!, resit exam, learned about seasteads, uncertain money arrives! kissed a girl, triple-booked plans for next weekend, drank a lot, got up early a lot, 9-hour coach journey... INTERNET INSTALLLLEEEED!! Xbox live, tv, freeview, extra channels, telephone. No hot water still. I'm back to hassle. how deep was the water? You don't want to freak teh poor dude out - have perhaps a wide dish up to their ankles? I went to a P party as a Post-It note. Win. Maaaaaaaan. I totally had the idea for this. After this was made. After MST3k. But still!
  6. ah! But I have friends to molest and make do that for me of a look seee bit more, like.

  7. I'm not one for wishing. Sorry!
  8. welcome back dude I've personally just got the internet back after ages, so I've missed nearly two months, but just scraping the odd thing here and there. My plan is to waste about 5 hours/10/three days catching up on the HWYD thread and freaking people out when I bring up something that happened to them months ago that they've forgotten about.
  9. I have no idea what this link was for at all!

  10. Narcissism is the sole reserve for our lord and protector, Ashley. Ha! p.s. I have no idea if the thread title is at all apropriate anymore...!
  11. I just realised mine only has 16 players! Sold one, got another transfer listed and going after completely teh wrong type of player for my team, so kinda hoping I get outbidded... Lol of the day: Noticed ReZ hasn't had A SINGLE chance in his games so far. Epic. Awesome of the day: Haden's reports. A real touch of class Let's hope our girlfriends/wives/friends/prostitutes never see them though, as they'll think we're a right bunch of geeks!
  12. in plox, and back with proper internet and thus reliable
  13. Ok, so I've held The Thinker pose for days now, but I'm not getting anywhere. Not being a hero sucks, and I'm pretty shit at being an anti-hero. I need more piercings, more tattoos and more leather clothes and shit. If you kill me now, I can never complete my bucket list - apologising to you was on there, and I'm glad of this chance to get that ticked off. If I live, then this whole experience will probably count for at least three more things, but I'll never learn morse code. I'll never be a scout leader, or learn how to sail. I'll never learn sign language, or see my favourite band play a gig. I'll never be able to try armadillo, or ride a camel! I'll never be able to do all the good that is in my heart, if you do this one bad act. Plus I have, like, the coolest name here.
  14. yeah, fixtures look awful! My middle 4 games with cube and dyson should be, on paper, my easier fixtures, but the paper LIES. First 3 games of teh season, and last 3, are against ReZ and two of the promoted dudes, so again the paper says i should have a chance there... But my team is all red-arrowed and tired and rubbish so I'm expecting relegation this season.
  15. Got a friendly lined up with Ell. Pretty sure I'm going to lose, thanks to dyson dirty-tricking me. And he complained that he got a bunch of yellow cards? He was bruising me! Mofo.
  16. Angel A - Luc Besson is always a reliable film maker, and this is no different. It has the retard grocery boy from Amelie in the lead role as a man who, basically, tries to jump off a bridge because he can't afford to pay a bunch of people off, but looks across and sees a blonde woman contemplating the same thing. She jumps, he saves her. She gives her life to him to use as he pleases, and so unfurls an amusing yarn about redemption with some tearful moments. I can't work out if I like the ending or not - I think I would've preferred it to be more ambiguous. 17/20
  17. Bard man, sorry to hear that. You sound like you've thought it through so far. Settle in for the reverberations. /me slaps CFM for calling those ciders 'weird'. As I walked past, I saw the cars being towed off. Police had blocked off the entire street. The cars didn't look too mashed up. Well eureka'd, buddy *is properly back on 24th, or something*
  18. Getting my net back on the 20th, but will be away 'til the 24th. My change report was +6, -1, but only had three or four visible changes. This season's going to be even more of a struggle than the last! I feel little hope :P
  19. Wahey! Watta result. Not sure I'll be winning against dyson THE DIRTY TRICKING BASTARD, but I hugely doubt he'll beat me severely enough to stay up. Plodding above relegation once again, for me! If league numbers change again, then perhaps dyson won't get relegated anyway! I don't think my report will be all that good, to be honest. SOB! Well you're league admin next time, right? You choooz! One of my new housemates is intrigued in the idea of x11, so I may try and get him to join the forums purely for this. Well done Mcoy You have a good squad. Next season you are one of the faves for promotion. BWAHAHAAHAHAAA! Yes. Serves you right for underestimating me. cheers Haden for doing the biz for me, in my time of need :P
  20. Housing benefits A STEP CLOSER TO COMPLETION! ... Yeah. Watched The Darjeeling Limited, Zombie Strippers and Cronos last night. Bought Four 360 games today. Walked about town with nightwolf, now at hers using INTERNETS, then home for alcohol, chicken and xbox. NEED BATTERIES AAH. Will pester wolfy about that! Well From East to West it goes; Brighton, Hove, Portslade. Once you get to the King Alfred, you've basically escaped all the tourists and get to see the homely side of Brighton & Hove. HR wasn't that poor, but for the price you're really not getting anything that special, that you couldn't get elsewhere for half the price. The buses in brighton are amongst the most simple there are in teh country. Each bus stop has a map, as well as a timetable showing ALL of the stops on the route, as well as electronic auto-update screens showing arrival times. Plus most busses tend to go in a straight line that runs parallel with the coast, on one of three roads, and if you ever get lost just walk south to the sea and west/east 'til you recognise something. I really want to show people around brighton, get them away from teh touristy rubbish!
  21. Housing benefit fail. Landlord didn't drop it round last night, and despite telling me he'd be at his office all day apparently NOBODY is in this fabled office, so he's going to drop it off tonight. Last night was great fun. Went from mass phailings of friends saying "yeah! Corp! Woo!" to "meh. cba to do anything. ever," so I got nightwolf and our mate jonno over, had some drinks (nightwolf polished off most of a litre of vodkat by herself), listened to some music, watched In Bruges (not very well), then housemates got back pissed about midnight, and we talked bollocks, tried to find a 24/7 booze delivery service (there's definitely one in sheff) - but failed, so we boogied to our Tape Of Epic. Housemates had red tape round their heads, and broke a large piece of chipboard wood by running through it. Silly fuckers. This morning my head hurt lots, so I stayed in bed and I STILL haven't eaten. Folks want to go to Crystal tonight - All I know about that place is they have burlesque nights, but tonight isn't one. Oh, and they're expensive and smart, so I may just have a few drinks in town, then drink myself silly at home/spliff a movie or two. I MISS YOU INTERNET! I miss you all. Oscars are a sham, and even though I do love LMS, it's definitely not worthy of best picture, imo. Man... You're going to brighton as SUCH A TOURIST! I went to Harry Ramsden's a week ago... and it was just fish n' chips, same as anywhere else. Only three times as expensive. Try walking up Kingsway road towards the West Pier. There's a good chippie there after the thistle hotel (cross two roads, it's on the corner, near the 24 hour breakfast joint). OR hop on a bus/train, go to portslade, and get some F'n'C from Athena B. Best chippie in town. Comic shop - Dave's Comics, I presume, down the North Lanes? Went into that Lego shop with Flink, actually :P I just DARE you to walk west along the seafront until you get past the King Alfred... until you get to HOVE LAGOON and witness the holiest place in the city. Oh yes, I am homesick.
  22. Madtastic lolgasm... ReZ, that's a mighty fine scalp to put on the mantle. Will you be the last team ever to beat O3 FC? Got me a respectable draw. Honestly- 7 draws. That must be some sort of record. Interesting x11 this week, too! Nearly all the teams were in it; only Haden and I failed to make an appearance... and... er... well Haden wasn't even playing... *cries at shite team* Glad to see Dan Dare's old team is top of the lower league. I will give the lad a knuckle sandwich, a stamp and five pounds when I next see him. Marshall Bain, Edd Kirby's 'keeper, is uncle scrooge's bank vault personified.
  23. lol - no, it's not Well it may be that they had a 12 month contract? Could be as magic come saturday!
  24. Aight, well we can try and get our actual friends to go too :P I'll definitely come if I have the squids. I can't actually go on (m)any of the rides, so I'll just be chugging on a 2litre bottle of 'coke'
