The official help me get a degree thread
jayseven replied to MoogleViper's topic in General Chit Chat
I don't really think anyone thinks in words, per se, but this test is designed to focus on the lexicon; the actual store of words that we must have in order to recognose and process the orthographic or the phonetic forms of words. Words aren't formed in isolated blots but in connected memes and schemas, and while we can't say they're distinct from images or feelings, we can still say that words must be connected to one another somehow, otherwise we'd all be illiterate and unable to comprehend one another. -
Ashley; so I've been (will have been) a mature student for, like, half of my degree?! I thought a mature student was generally 23+? Villan? how much have you researched into this? A specific college where you want to go, or whatever? Have you been there? Questioned staff? Current pupils? Talk to eddage, he's recently gone back into education (and as you can tell from his generally low attendance rate to this here forum, is extreeeemely busy with it), and it's well worth knowing everything you can.

Can I just play devil's advocate for a second here and point out that most of you people don't have the first idea of what good or bad art is. *points to the devil's advocate bit, just to reiterate*

Paj; that's part of the crit regarding the test. Often people would take the stimuli then 'chain' the associations off of that. I suppose the test asks for the four strongest associations, so if you think "rain" then "man in rain", and the latter is stronger than your thought for "monkeys" then that's ok... But altogether the test is heavily flawed, and really the only way that sort of event is ironed out is by averages. If I get 100 people to take part then your little meander would become insignificant to the results as a whole. Er. yeah. I dunno. It's rather silly. -
nightwolf; yeah am Villan; you're not a mature student just yet. Depends on the course you want to study as well as your previous qualifications. When you say you know katakana and hirigana, what do you mean? Like, really, really well? Even so, start with the beginner's stage to at least get to grips with the form of the course. As for media; what draws you to it? Are you expecting to sit around watching adverts and movies all day? Even while this may be true for some courses, if you want to get something out of it, you should at least know what. Do you want to work in media? In what capacity? Is there not an advisor to discuss these things with?

I can't even remember if I finished season 1. I think I did. I remember thinking the pilot was fail, but being suitibly attached to enough of the characters by the 5th episode. Must trade this box set with a friend's friend. Shorty (if you even read this post)! Let me know in advance when you next see brafe so I can give him his stuff and he can give me mine!- 3920 replies

I hate religion debates these days, because it is simply so damn clear that nobody involved actually knows what they're talking about.

Supergrunch pwns us all. So my dad gave me £40 today, so I spent £30 on some great food that should last me a good week, plumping me up a bit for the troubles ahead. Council sent me a letter asking for £250 that they claim to have paid me in unnecessary housing benefits. I guess I just add it to the pile of lols. I also treated myself to a £5.99 Swann smoking kit - comes with about 500 filters, 700 rizlas, two lighters, smoking tin and a rolling maching. So cool. Also spent more time with housemates tonight. Played some Borderlands co-op but they didn't like it much, and the cramped screen annoyed. Gears of War 2 on insane... well we seem to get through about 3 checkpoints each time we give it a go. Currently Carmine is running off and getting killed. Very annoying. So! Finishing my cider (tis nice to be rich when you want to celebrate), and then going to watch some Sons of Anarchy through my shitty laptop speakers as I have no headphones (been borrowing them from a housemate and he wants them back)... so yeah. Work at 10.30. boo.

You think they'll not be 'in control' when the April 23rd (or whenever) moment rolls around?! That's just silly!

Just to say the advice here in this thread is top-notch. If I had started my assignment when y'all told me so then I would've been able to go meet hot girl. Will use this service again.

Ok, got you! But! As I said; it's not clear precisely how people experienced the flashforwards. Ep.9 has a great example that essentially suggests that the flashforwards were hazy, and not entirely clear like actual right-now experience is. Just... watch the rest before I accidentally say something spoilar! There's a good debate to be had about all this (when is there not, with time travel?) once you have more of the show to use as questions/answers. (I'm not saying they've totally covered their asses with everything, and I'm not even saying that they will when the season's complete -- I'm fairly sure they won't because they'll want a second season. But I hear that the book opens with precisely describing how and what is going on, so if you really want to know then I'm sure there's answers out there)

I'm pretty sure my mum's going to get me the 5+ recent pratchett books I've not got, despite not particularly wanting them. My dad's on holiday for both xmas and my birthday so I probably won't get anything from him. However I do actually already have a couple of wrapped gifts here from my mum, awaiting a christmas tree to go under.

During the word association experiment I just FINISHED (kick-ass), I would say teh word "Salt" to people and they'd think I had said "Sort". Mind you, I'm slightly sure that I have a problem saying L and R sounds...

Not bad points at all There are occasions in latter episodes which suggest reasons for why that logic-feedback-loop isn't necessarily as straight-forward as that. But also, I think the way flashforwards have been shown potentially denies us of full comprehension. We're lacking a context, and we don't have access to mosaic ourselves so we can't check everyone on the planet's flashforwards. Maybe there are people whose flashforward was a giant "Hey it's the flashforward party that we saw in our flashfoward!" party... They've been very loose about specifically how the flashforwards were experienced consciously. Are you a spectator? A passenger? In the drivers seat? is it like a movie, or a video game, or like a mis-mash of images, tones, emotions, feelings? I don't understand why the pregnant woman would know the sex of her child -- her flashforward was her having a scan. Maybe she was finding out then, or maybe she just asked not to know... :| I do think it'll be interesting to see your rationality facing certain parts of this show :P

I don't understand why you're putting 'gays' and 'heteros' in apostrophes like that. Civil partnerships were introduced to give gay couples legal rights similar to that of marriage, seeing as the church(es) refused to offer teh same services. If you've been with your partner for 40 years, for example, and they kick the bucket, you have no legal right to their belongings, no legal 'next of kin' status. If you're married, you do. The government did a great thing introducing a legal equivolent for 'the gays'. These people are being ridiculous.

It's a month to go, so it counts as a valid thread. This year, if asked, I will be asking for; A bedside lamp iPod speaker docks Left 4 Dead 2 A chair I'm not sure what to get my family either. Just getting the necessary gifts, so that's 5. Must avoid DVDs.

Well I went to bed at about 3.10am, set my alarm foolishly for 7am, and woke up about 10:10am. I've totally mastered the art of putting my phone on sleep as soon as it goes off, now. Shit. Good man! Maryland or Millie's? I'm holding you to that. Ouch, bit of a situation you're in now. So you've kissed two housemates, the one previous (single) thought there may've been something going on. Then I presume you kissed the other housemate (bf) and she wasn't expecting it, so now she's all ignoring-you, perhaps because she's seriously contemplating what to say, if anything at all, to her boyfriend. Advice? Give her room to breathe, and maybe (if you're sure) tell the other girl precisely where you stand. 'Weird'? We've been saying supergrunch hasn't posted enough lately... *turns on the grunchsignal*

Fuck the polar bear. What about that kangaroo!! Anyway I just came in here to say that I totally rock at watching this episode a week ago.

Maddog; if you think you're getting relegated then simply do your best to get your players' form up. Get them rotating so that when you go back down to the next league you're seriously beefed up and ready to take on the rest down there

Ok, so I'm going to be starting this in a couple of days (by friday hopefully!) So consider this a roll-call for those of you who have asked to play. If anyone else wants to play, then it's first-come, first-served for any spare positions that open up. 21 max. And don't join if you're not willing to commit vast amounts of time and energy. I know that's ironic, coming from me.

So! A proper good stint from around 10pm 'til now (with two fag and coffee breaks) and I've got 2,900 words and a chance for a bit o'shut-eye. Will set alarm for 7, and try to wake before 9, then blast through some more reading to beef the biblio, finish my final evaluation, add the intro, remember to add those citations to the big red "REF" things here and there. Then read it through and start to freak out and worry that I've done it all wrong. I probably have. But I figure I just need to find one (or two!) similar studies to amalgamate into my intro/outro, and blam. Done. It's just impossible to find similar pussy-first-year-type studies on sites like JSTOR full of internationally published, cutting-edge journals. LONG POST FTFW. Also played Borderlands (sologay) for about 40 mins. I got to the doctor's, and I had no idea what to do. Turns out the game must have glitched, because I'd killed all the enemies but the scripted sequence didn't start. It did when I restarted though! Steph; congrats on the job! Sounds like it'll be drama every day. Just your thing :P Dan; how free? Can I stealz/borrowz it off you in, like, 2 months? Moogle; Love it. Clearly pissed off your face. Nice! EDIT: Oh, yeah, and new House is out so, uuhh... I'm gonna watch it before bed! P.P.S. One month 'til christmas, fuckers!
