- Lots has happened - Went to Ely for family do - ... Nobody cares enough for me to make the effort to remember any of my last week - Exam in 2 hours! - Romanticism & C18th literature. - Rape of the Lock! Evelina! The Rivals! Moll Flanders! Lyrical Ballads! Persuasion! I hate it all. - Ex arrives as I finish - Who knows what the future holds? - Well, I want to go to Derby this weekend, so I guess I do a little. - LAPTOP SHOPPING BEGINS TODAY/MORROW! Not true. Where I work, due to the quirky system of paying-before-you-even-see-the-item, we can still ID the customer at collection point and, if they fail to provide proof, we have the right to withhold the item from them. It's something to do with the customer having to actually leave the store before the transaction is complete.

We can - we have spoiler tags for that exact purpose :P I do see what you mean, but in general references to a show, such as the HIMYM/Arrested Development gifs and quotes do not spoil the show because they are taken out of context, but something that reveals the plot or story that detracts from the enjoyment of watching a show afresh should be locked up in their tags, for decency's sake.

Perhaps, but personally I dislike any such practice - for instance shows like 24 I'm only on season 2 (or 3?) and while one could argue that it is a mundane practice to catch up, I'd still like to enjoy the shows 'afresh' as viewers were able to when they aired, regardless of how ancient their premier may have been. Yeah SOA is a summer show, and actually now that I think about it, I'm fairly sure that, along with Southland, you made a post a while back confirming their seasons 2/3!

RE: Smallville discussion; spoiler tags please! RE: show renewalls - I like the sound of some of the new shows. Always in need of fresh blood! Those lists don't have Sons of Anarchy or Southlands on - I'm sure SoA was given the green light ages ago, non?

Start reading now. By the time you get near the end of the 2nd book you'll have the crazy "omigodomigod I'm nearly done! HOW WILL I SURVIVE IF I DON'T HAVE THE NEXT BOOK!!" meltdown, and you'll run to your nearest waterstones at 3 in the morning, wearing only a nightgown and slippers and a comical sleeping hat, perhaps a candlestick in a holder to complete the look, and you'll camp out 'til the shop opens - unluckily for you it's a bank holiday so you have to wait a whole day, but at least you have the last 100 pages to keep you warm 'til then. I think I have books 2-7. I'd be happy to lend you book 3 for your reading duration.

Xpert 11 Season 13 (The Season of Hope and Change Reports)
jayseven replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
a 4-4 draw must've been exciting to watch! Not too displeased, but am expecting more from my boys on the return leg at our patch. -
Darksnowman; yeah after I made that post I found a dark tower forum and had a read up on a lot of the theories (and disagree with a lot of them) -- it also had a good page on what other books have references (there's quite a few) -- also there seems to be a book of short stories set in the dark tower universe(s) which I may check out first.

^I prestige for those two reasons. I don't really see the point in playing it without levelling up... Each time I prestige I concentrate on maxing out a perk or two, and to be honest I only ever really use one or two classes this way. My e-penis is masseeeev. Although having said that, trying to max out the danger close perk has annoyed me so much that i've not played the game for three days

I've not seen any recipes with pressure cookers so far, but I'll bear that in mind! I'm going to head to the sainsbury's on the Moor to see if they have any risotto rice and try and get a chunk of parmesan if I can... We need a cheese shop in sheff! Right, an hour on the threads is enough I guess. Homeward bound for another day.

Ashley: Besides Wikipedia says "a situation comedy may be recorded before a studio audience. Some also feature a laugh track." Shorty: "It also lists W&G as a sitcom and 30 Rock as a Comedy :3 " (but then shorty initiated it with "To wikipedia!" and you also had other sources, but still, it's not completely false) But then you belittled wiki and instantiated that shorty is silly for using it, even though you did, because you don't like what wiki said for him. Essentially the argument fizzled into lameness when the topic at heart is actually interesting! My take on it; I've never been a fan of postmodern attempts to dismiss genres, because they still exist. Personally, what differentiates a comedy from a sitcom can be said to be, simply, the length of the episodes. Half-hour episodes are sitcoms while the hour-long format tends to lean towards the increasingly popular comedy drama style, a lá Chuck. Of course the format has evolved over the decades to the point where characters can and do reference previous events (scrubs alltehtiem), but the episodes are still self-contained because the references are typically elaborated on, fully explained, and written into the show inobtrusely. Unobtrusely? Whatever. But then this doesn't mean previous sitcoms never had 'overarching storylines' -- friends had several 'motifs' that would define a season -- most shows do. So essentially if genres are in flux and everything is a bit of everything else... Then I stick with my length-of-episode as being a good defining marker :P So 30 Rock is a sitcom, for me. (http://theses.gla.ac.uk/496/01/2008williamsonLphd.pdf is a nice read for beginners like me who have to have someone else say something in order for it to mean anything)- 3920 replies

Don't want to do any revision but got nothing else to do all day. 'Cept play AC2. Mmmm... Ok that sounds like a good idea. - Gonna go book my train ticket for the weekend - Need to buy smart/casual shirt (whatever that even means) and shoes - Going to look up how to make a risotto now. It doesn't seem too hard, just fussy. Need some short-grain rice I guess.

Actually I think the issue was that you cited wiki first then dismissed Shorty's point when he used the same resource :P- 3920 replies

Xpert 11 Season 13 (The Season of Hope and Change Reports)
jayseven replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
A deserved draw with Eddage on friday -- his keeper is a beast. The bottom league isn't hugely competitive, agreed, but there are still a few of us fighting over the promotion spots, and rarely a game where the result is a foregone conclusion. -
Friday; - Completed essay - Napped from 9am - Woken up by an old man and two young ladies in my room - Houseviewing ¬__¬ - Played AC2 Saturday; - Work - Drink at pub w/ shorty, nami, and two other mates - Home - AC2, MW2 Monday; - Library to use internetz - Printing housemate's CV - ... Nothing left to do on internetz - Soup-cooking tonight. - Buying veg on way home. - That's it. Tuesday (I will be); - Paying all my rent - Booking ticket to Ely - Should start revision - Might go laptop hunting - Probably won't ... Life's so boring sometimes. I miss my laptop, especially being able to watch TV shows. I must be 2 weeks behind everything by now. To be fair, if my sister bought a present for my mum then demanded money off me, I'd be all no! - You should've let her buy her own gift, or at least ask her if it's ok to spend that much of her money before demanding it off of her. I obviously know nothing about your sister, to be fair. Teach her how to download music, that'll solve a few problems.

Happy day-after-your-birthday! Too cool for school is you. Just about cool enough for Cambridge, I guess.
-
You could probably start watching it from 8 to be honest. You will miss out on some of that oh it's that guy from that episode! as well as a lot of why doesn't clark just do that thing like he did in that episode ages ago. Of course, watching it all gives you that little bit more of that wholesome canonical knowledge.

And I don't really know where to start. I don't game. My only real priority is that it has a great battery life, isn't too heavy, has a decent sized screen... Er... yeah. Any tips on where I should start to look?

Just started Unseen Academicals by Pratchett last night/nightbeforedayofcrazy. Not touched a discworld book in a while and while it's refreshing to read through the humour and recognise the people and the places again, it doesn't quite have that rich quality that the old-skool ones did. I am enjoying it though - it should be fully read in a week. What's odd is that they list Nation as a book for young people, when I swear it has way more pages than this offering from the DW canon, and deals with much more serious issues...

I'm guessing lib dem votes were split with labour in a lot of places, giving the cons the advantage.

Growing up I don't think I was ever really aware of the finality of some of the goodbyes, but recent years I've become very aware of who I still keep in touch with, and who I don't. I, like daft, have a couple of Friends Through Time, with whom it really doesn't matter how often we keep in touch. This summer I'll probably be saying goodbye to sheffield (uncertain still), and if I do I'll be saying goodbye (or at least, farewell!) to several of my best friends, and to several of my own best years. Or I'll just send them a postcard...

Green Party win in my dad's constituency Bunch of hippies there, tbh. labour seem to be dominating sheffield, but Hallam is still yet to be called. Brighton area's lost a couple to the connies But hey - hung parliament! Wahey! When do get get to draw and quarter them? (yes, I know, 'hanged' etc)
