The Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers inside, enter at own risk)
jayseven replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Chit Chat
Well I think teh name sucks too - but it makes some sense to have it explicitly related to TDK. BB and TDK aren't as related to each other as TDK and TDKR are/will be. It's like the Millenium book trilogy -the first book gives birth to the character and introduces you to how they work, the other two take teh character, changes the character then sees the character overcome the change and return to status quo. -
If you say gullible out loud slow enough, it looks like you're saying 'elephant.' P.S. This thread is where I go when I'm feeling sad and need a laugh.

... You guys do know that we have sadists on these forums, right? Password protect it, and make it so you have to PM Mcoy to get it.

"she does that girl thing where you move the hands in time with the controllers" - I think that's the benchmark to see if someone is a gamer or not. Sit them down with mario kart and a pad and watch their hands! If they start moving, you're allowed to tut and shake your head.

On the one hand, I've been low on thanks for a couple of days. It seems as soon as I can thank again, they're gone! -- but I have to say this isn't usual for me. I'm usually fairly reserved with them. If you have a bunch of posts in a row admitting they liked your latest ReZ Daily or holiday diary, then you can just quote 'em all/none of them and say "thanks guys" or whatever. I dunno. Just... reserve them :P

My point-n-click experience is quite limited. First was probably the indiana jones one when I was like 8, then Hook, Toonstruck, Discworld Noir (still not played the first two properly - THOSE SHOULD BE ON XBLA!!). Never actually played sam and max/black tentacle (or whatever) or grim fandango. I have many memories as a small kid trying to get FURTHER THAN EVER with hook/indiana jones, and we had no concept of saving, so we always had to start from scratch. Also bought broken steel (or something like that, I forgot) for like a quid but couldn't get into it.

I understand perfectly what you are saying. Perhaps there's something we should amend; I am saying that "I'm loving it" is not a stative verb phrase, which is still a 'verb' but it helps to distinguish it from verb as a type of word. You are saying Love is a stative verb. Stative verbs can become dynamic verbs in conjunction with other words, depending on teh context of the sentence as a whole!

The man stubbed his cigarette out before he entered the reporter's home. He pulled a wire out of the MOSES console, then retreated to the shadows outside the apartment, and kept watch. The reporter, Karpov, clicked his knuckles as he sat down in his study to type. The feeling of an oldfangled keyboard was sometimes helpful to his concentration. He opened his inbox, pleased to see some new intel. Jacob trundled through the atrium, certain that this would be where he would find his target. Overlooking the plaza floor were two sets of eyes, watching his every move. One set of eyes, sitting under a cliché hat, looked skyward. He tutted, and left. Jacob shortly heard his target, crackle and fizzle. He was close. He headed towards the doorway where the sound came from. Already in the corridor leading to the outside, Oscar had already seen the digital smoke, but kept his distance. He passed Jacob by as he entered the atrium, neither paying any attention to the other. As Jacob rolled down the corridor, he heard a scream, and small flashes of thunder echoed towards him. Edging closer to the door he was taken by surprise as a small robot appeared at the doorway. The small robot was jerking, his VDU on his chest broadcasting a snowy picture and his speech irregular. A faint aura of black smoke surrounded him, but Jacob wasn't sure. "I S-Si-Sarr-rr-Saysooo, there you-y-you i-arre" The little robot powered down, eyes glazing over. 15 Players remain. having a shit day! Stayed up til 6 arguing on here and watching Dexter, forgetting about the time. I thought my girlfriend was getting on a plane at 12 and getting back at 7pm, so my whole plan for tuesday was to get up whenever, get there for 7pm with some select floral accessories, and greet her. Turns out she got on a plane at 7am and got back at 12. I woke up at 4.30pm with 5 texts and a bunch of missed calls. Such a fool. So now I'm going to see her tomorrow for the whole day, just because going over there for 7pm now wouldn't be how I had planned it.

Had a cupasoup while listening to the scott pilgrim soundtrack unwrapping a game that arrived in teh post when a cat strolled into my room, climbed on the bed, liked my face and licked my soup. Fantastic moment. (We don't have a cat, btw)

[To The Fish;] The only reason you think it's a stative verb is because you think love can only be of the endless variety. That's the only way I can explain why you have this wrong. I don't see why you can't understand that someone may choose to use "I'm [verb]ng it" rather than "I [verb] it," for while it may be incorrect in some cases, it simply has a different meaning in others. As soon as you change the format, then it stops being one type of very and becomes the other. "I love it" is stative, "I'm loving it" is not. Simple as.

Xpert 11 Season 15: On Your Talent Agent's Secret Service
jayseven replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
Victory over the top team, that's 6 points taken off them this season :P Feel like I should be 6pts up from where I am, so maybe I can just karmically equal them out. Was a risky game for me, and the numbers say it should've gone the other way -- but my teamwork values were maxed out for each part of the team. It's coming together! One of my players has played 12 games and only has 5 dev value. He's injured so that's probably all it is... but probably going to sell him at the end of the season. -

Just finished Monkey Island 1 and 2. The second game was the easier, I felt. Last boss pissed me off for ages. Any clue of 3 and 4 will find their way to XBLA? Especially seeing as 5's "on it way".

Portuguese love tiles. [/stereotype thread crossover]

I think you have a very specific idea of what the word 'love' can imply. "I'm loving this meal" in itself is not a continual phrase - it is rather fixed in teh time-frame of the meal itself! The meal stops existing after I've eaten it. Thus surely it'd switch to I loved that meal," or, more to relate to the phrase we're debating; "I was loving that meal [but now it's over so I'm sad]." I'm meaning to draw attention to the "I am" in this, I think, but I'm 6 ciders down and I'm starting to feel like I need to read my old text books because I've clearly not remembered anything from uni. It's a verb thing. Grunch? Oh god, I had to stop reading that pretty quick, Grunch.

Lol, grunch. I was just ticking the boxes to do this exact thing. Will move over my latest post.

"I love it" and "I am loving it" hold different meanings, though. While a lot can be attributed by colloquial/cultural use (Cheers, McD) the two terms are still distinct. If my friend cooked me a rabbit stew after I told her I normally hate rabbit, and I said "I love it" then she may infer several things; that her meal has changed my mind, even. Whereas if I had said "I am loving it" it retains the original notion of there being a normative state for my opinion on rabbit, to which her meal has not altered, even though I am expressing my enjoyment of the meal. My opinion of rabbit, therefore, alters, depending on which phrase I have used. While my example is not thorough nor completely correct, I hope it serves as purpose to show why the phrase is totally fine. I don't think I ever really grasped the structure of language during my studies. I certainly didn't remember any of the correct labels or anything, but I still think I know how to phrase myself and make myself understood. Well, except for my grammar/spelling/vocab issues. Anyway, going to thread-rip our sideshow.
