This book should be on the curriculum. You shouldn't be allowed to leave year 7 without having read it. (my addition to the "hey, science is fun/awesome!" argument)

How did you find out that santa wasn't real?
jayseven replied to jayseven's topic in General Chit Chat
One of teh years shortly after The Incident I did something similar - asked my mum for one thing and actually sending santa a letter in the post with different stuff. Fairly sure I didn't get anything that I asked for at all :P -
Flameboy! Can you check them for MSG? It's a mild mission to get to a big enough sainsbury's/tesco's that'll stock'em.

I'm up for a puzzle!

(In order not to make people think there's a write-up in the actual game thread) I sent out role requests this morning. I'd imagine a write-up will be with us as soon as I've written it tomorrow after I've woken up I tried to warn people of the length of write-ups/potential foreverness of the game in the sign-ups thread. I will be more aggressive with chasing up PMs from now on - but ultimately I think I've provided a good arena for a good game to be played, thereafter it's down to the players :P So yeah. Mid-afternoon (maybe earlier!) There'll be a write-up. One promise I'll make for my next mafia game is that it'll have a smaller register of players. I think the experience will be better (and write-ups not so hench :P).

I don't know about the nation, but my own stereotypes of Portuguese; they don't know whether tehy're spanish or italian and hate them both. They like cod and cork and tiles and roosters. These are hyperbolic and not meant to be offensive! I think Portugal is one of the 'lucky' EU countries that we don't have any negative connotations about (as far as I know)... We've got a good relationship, both hate the spanish (armada), etc. Other 'good' EU countries in UK's/my eyes are; all of scandinavia, holland, belgium... ... ... ... yeah maybe switzerland. I dunno. I think there's some stupid percentage of americans who think portuguese speak Brazillian...

If string theory and that 11/12 dimension theory are correct, then somewhere in the baltiguiltifaultimultiverse, shit like this exists. That's just about the most scientific yet fantastic thing you could possibly say as a compromise.

Goddammit I'm out of thanks. Glad to see university life has welcomed you well. Weird to realise that I never knew your name was Nicholas. Your affinity to Santa Claus may explain a lot of your behaviour.

I had a mate who seriously still believed in santa at the age of 13/14 (year 8). We made him cry and stuff. Shit, I'm totally going to hell. -
It's quite hard not to.

Now this is getting just silly.

Iceland is weird. -
I think you can transfer the data from one to the other, then sort out the license stuff afterwards. Transferring multiple gamertags is possible too. Just be wary; in order to move stuff you have to be signed in to the 'owner' gamertag. I've not transferred my entire HDD but I use a memory unit (bloody useless waste of money, that was) a lot and it's a bit of a faff as you have to move one thing at a time.

Just going over chair's (and the forum's!) first game... and it's quite funny to see us all going vote-crazy, and charming to see chairdriver offer his mafia wisdom and lead us through the game by hand... Good times. There's an old outcomes thread somewhere that'll make it a bit easier... Will do it when/if I'm arsed tomorrow (unless it's already been done).

Nice one! I'm guessing they were still in gen chit-chat, d'oh!

Mafia game #5 Forum War! (chairdriver) My Mafia (DIY) (mundi) Thriller Mafia (Tellyn) Sci-Fi-Fantasy Mafia (Esequiel) Bare Bones Mafia (Dyson) Forum Mafia Mk II (The Fish and DomJcg) Marvel Mafia (Vicar) The Toy Mafia (Cube) The Third DIY Mafia (Jonnas) Mafiawesome: The San Luis Penguins Six (jayseven) X-Men Mafia (chairdriver) The Nintendo Mafia: Battle for Nintendo Land (Dannyboy-the-Dane) Pokemafia (ReZ) X-Men Mafia (Paj Meen Ah) DIY Mafia (Maddog) Super Smash Bros Brawl Mafia (Diageo) The Colour Mafia (Dannyboy-the-Dane) In God We Rust (jayseven) MARVEL Mafia (chairdriver) The Gentlemen's Mafia (Jonnas) Pokémafia 7: Trust No One (ReZ) I just did a forum search for 'mafia' and figured it'd be nice to have the ones I found put in here.I appreciate that it's an incomplete list - ReZ's other Pokémafias, Fish and DomJcg's first forum mafia, chair's earlier mafias, and possibly others too, but typing all of that out was a bit... annoying so I couldn't be bothered to search for the others just now :P *goes off to peruse some old games*

No, my explanation is definitely better. :P

it was autumn, and my mum couldn't leave me in the house alone as I was only three or four. A neighbour was selling a My Little Pony castle thing, and my mum took me round there when she picked it up. A few months later this thing called Give Your Kids Loads Of Stuff Day came around, and santa had gotten me somethingorother, but for my sister he gave her a My Little Pony castle thing that looked kinda similar to-- waitasecond! It is that casle thing mum went and bought from the neighbours! "That's not from santa mum" "What are you talking about? Look; "To Emma, From Santa-" it says it right here" "No mum. It's from number 61. I was with you when you bought it!" (obv I was a very intelligent as a small person, and able to talk eloquently from birth) So yeah, that's how it happened. Coincidentally, that's when my older sister learnt that santa was a fake, too. Sorry sis.

My GCSE C in physics will tell you that heat is merely the vibration of particles, and that microwaves vigorously shake the water particles in food. The energy transfers as heat! Or something like that.

Harsh to hear, man. My parents split before I was even able to form memories, so I've got a good relationship with both still and bear no resentments to either party (I did for a bit in my teens). I know people whose parents break up after the kids have upped and left the family home, others who endeavoured through affairs and stayed together, and parents who should've divorced the day after they got married because surely it's impossible for them to have ever loved each other... You'll get twice as many birthday presents from now on, eh! No doubt they'll try and one-up each other, too. *buys ell an invisble, and mostly useless, crate of cider, and sits and sings brand new at him for a bit in an effort to cheer him up* *jayseven obv. succeeds!* *jayseven secretly drinks all of the invisible cider, thinking Ell probably doesn't want it anyway* And I'd like to say I'm treating the 'thanks' button as a 'sorry' button, in case you thought I was being uncharacteristically sadistic. *jayseven is not impressed with the invisible cider, so starts drinking the real cider he had hidden and doesn't tell Ell in case he gets jealous*

UFO - I saw some object flying, and was unable to identify it. Ghost - I was half-asleep, so was probably 'still dreaming.' I'm totally cool with these things being explainable, normal things. The point is that the experience you go through is something that is hard to replicate. No matter how rational one can be, when confronted with something that is, at the time, utterly alien, it is hard not to go through a massive emotional freak-out. Suddenly you don't know how the world works. All the what if's explode in your mind and something very primal inside you shrieks and trembles, talks to you in a way that language cannot do. Then you have a cup of tea, calm down, and repeat that brainwashing mantra that you learnt when they told you santa wasn't real and took all the magic away, and go to bed.

M&S prepared meals are of a fantastic quality and there's a great variety of stuff to choose from, but yeah standard microwave pizzas etc are just incredibly lazy and poorly put together food.
