What order would you show your kids the Stars Wars saga in?
jayseven replied to flameboy's topic in General Chit Chat
My kids will learn all about cinema in a series of lectures and seminars, tutored by me. I will show them the original (4,5,6) trilogy as part of my 70's cinema semester, then a couple of years later they will be allowed a recap of the first trilogy before watching the latest 3 films, which shall fall under the '00's throwback sequels' module. Anyone who recommends seeing 1,2,3 first is an idiot. Why ruin a perfectly good trilogy by spoilerising it with such... shite cinema? 1,2,3 only have any value with the knowledge of what's to come! 4,5,6 have such excellent auras because have no knowledge of 1,2,3. Don't fuck it up. -

.... Ok so my 'six months behind' rule is getting a little stretched... Picked this up ages ago, only just got round to playing it. The game doesn't stretch itself in any way, shape or form but it's still cool to bounce across NY in a matter of minutes, elbow-slam a tank or fly a helicopter into a marine base. On my first playthrough on normal, trying to get Hard To Kill (no deaths), Nice Guy (consume less than 10 pedestrians), and trying to do 3 missions completely undetected (on mission 16, done only 2 so far but didn't start trying for ages). I like the web of knowledge, I like running around, I like kicking ass... But I do not like the helicopter controls, nor their associated events, and I do not like the 'movement' events. Getting from A to B is easy, but turning corners and aiming for markers makes me feel shit at the controls -- one of them, High Flyer, essentially needs you to run/jump in a straight line up a building then drop back to the bottom again, only 99 times out of a hundred I get to the part of the building JUST before the 'column', and my character can't tell which direction he's running in, or on which surface he is on, then the camera starts moving so when it comes to sprinting up the 'column' to grab the penultimate marker he just runs 'around' the 'column' then FUCKING JUMPS OFF. It's frustrating to the point of madness because it just feels so broken. At one point I was confident I'd be able to 1000/1000 this game (with a guide for those landmark/hint balls, no doubt) but now I doubt I'll even get gold on all challenges, let alone platinum these fuckers. Does anyone remember these bits and do they have any tips? EDIT: ... lol noob. Don't need to climb to the VERY top of that building. Wow. That was a quick turnaround. ALL HOPE RESTORED!

It's quite fun to keep up with this thread. Your society is taking shape, with pranksters and thiefs about! I'm sure it won't be long before there's an elected leader, taxing you all.

PMs sent out. If the remaining players do not cast a vote within 24 hours, tehy will be killed off, unless saved by a majority vote. The reason I don't have a fixed time on the days is because we have a no lynch option for a reason.

Xpert 11 Season 15: On Your Talent Agent's Secret Service
jayseven replied to Haden's topic in General Chit Chat
... Forgot to set mine too. I wouldn't have had cheating on and i would've had a different formation. Annoying how much of a difference that potentially makes. Actually quite annoyed at myself right now. -
Handshake/hand-on-shoulder combo? The hug for the man too manly for hugs? Can't say I've ever done that.

kinell. Edited!

I'm an uncle! Four hours ago my sister gave birth to Amber, 6 pounds 13 ounces. It is insane how happy I feel about it. Extra awesumm hi-5's to serebii, now knowing how he feels. Even though I knew it was coming for 9 months, it's still something astounding.

Of the friends that I have who do programming-related jobs (4ish), none of them did a strictly IT-related subject. One did Physics, another did Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence (I've yet to come across a degree title that sounds more awesome), one did Economics/Business and I dunno what the other did. They got their jobs because of their proficiency in various programming languages, all self-taught. So I concur with Pyxis - if you have the will, there's a way to succeed with it. For the rest of us, we have to remain unfortunate and desolate in our uncertainty of WTF to do with our lives OT: I've got a (useless) degree that I care nothing at all about, and a 'debt' that I'll never pay off, but it doesn't bother me. University was more of a stepping stone into adulthood (even though I've taken a step back since graduating), about the experiences and the life learning (parenthesis).

Us men would just fondle all the women... There was this guy who started at argos a few months after me who was very similar - when I introduced myself he treated me as if I was his BFF (turns out we had met at a club once before). He pretty much did everything you said. It was totally inoffensive and actually quite endearing - the chap was just genuinely a really nice guy. What gets me is what do you do when you meet someone? In general, a firm handshake and a howdoyoudo suffices, but there are some people who are very huggy, which leads to a whole new area of uncertainty. How long do you hug? Where do you put your hands? Do you pat? Rub? Squeeze? Is it bad face to break the hug first? No contact at all is just simpler. Even with handshakes you can accidentally grab their fingers or their wrist and it becomes a ridiculous handshake. I think it's just me being british.

It'll alleviate the unemployment levels, apparently! The idea is that currently we have a substantial amount of people with degrees unable to find work, i.e. we've 'trained' too many people. By reducing the appeal of uni we can reduce this dole queue, while at the same time profiteering greatly from increased student loans, with the hope that the university system itself finds its balance of economy. Utter, utter, utter bullshit. With a grain of sense. ... just noticed the TIEM so I cannot continue this overworded essay.

Lol. As if we'd use cups.

Someone once pointed out to me that turkey, when not christmas, is quite cheap. Look for turkey mince and see if you agree. Consider your shopping options. Netto, Lidl and Aldi are not shit in the slightest -- the only thing I'd say is that once their food is past the Best Before... they're not lying. Frozen meat is a lot cheaper, although more time-consuming. Frozen mince is probably at leat 30-50% cheaper. An emergency overdraft can be rescinded! Once the date has passed, and once you've paid it off, you no longer have it. Perfect for dilemmas such as that you're experiencing. An odd quirk I noticed in supermarkets last year; beef mince meatballs in sainsbury's were cheaper than the equivalently weighted mince. I'd take advantage and buy a pack and break it down and convert it into normal mince. The beef content was precisely the same, though you may want to check that. Supermarkets become playgrounds when you're poor. You go there and look at the percentage of meat in each pack of sausages, check the small-printed "price per 100g" to really see which pack of ham is worth it... I can say with all honesty that the most I learned while at uni was how to eat and get drunk on a budget.

I was watching frequent Mock The Week panelist Andy Parsons' stand-up last night, and I thought he came across as a bit of a closet bigot. He ended his show with the mantra "I'm english, and I don't like anything foreign. I just want my cup of tea, pint of beer and plate of chips. Three of our greatest imports ever" (from memory). While he was being fairly sardonic, he was still speaking of a national pride based on disillusioned idea of heritage, something the US is much worse at considering they're all bloody immigrants. But today I've realised that I really don't give a shit about being English/British in the slightest. That English is predominantly the main spoken language in trade around the world bothers me little, it only annoys me more that we have a culture so determined not to be arsed learning a second language. To me being a person is much more worthwhile. I currently live down an 'alleyway' (the accurate word for it eludes me right now) and on the way home tonight I happened to enter it shortly after a couple of grand skinheads who were going on about how being english meant this and that... and I couldn't find myself agreeing with any of them. Perhaps it's growing up with this forum, I've just accepted that there are boundaries beyond those set up by passport control offices. I see nationality as the smallest common denominator between me and my friends, with interests, hobbies and mindsets being the foremost determiners for my friendships. So, in an attempt to make this a topic, do you feel any national pride at all? What, specificially, is it that makes you so darned pleased to have been born in whatever combined hectares that creates your flagged domain?

Y'see, I don't think it's the nadir of western civilisation. I think it's one of the best comedy shows out there for people with a brain. As dogamoto said; at what point do people get the thought; going on the show is a good idea! If idiots want to show the world how stupid they are, I am more than willing to watch them showcase their moronity in excange for my feeling of superiority. WORDS.

Just want to say it's great what you guys are doing! I'd donate, but I've hit the red severecore. I'd participate, but I'm going to a country gig/murder mystery/cider festival that weekend. But I'm wondering if you guys are going to keep us updated? Like, keep a diary of any LOLsome moments, or just generally what you're up to? Would make me feel all warm inside.

I was living on £20 for a fortnight many, many times. But if it's just your loan in late, I'd recommend talking to your bank about it. Take with you proof of address, ID, proof of being a student (can get something printed from your uni finance office) and ask for an emergency overdraft. IIRC (my housemate had to get one once) they can be interest free for student for a fixed period of time, i.e. if you say you're expecting your loan in a month then they'll charge you interest after a month. Effectively it'd be as if your loan was in! Otherwise; learn. To. Cook. I could survive on £20 a fortnight (including fags and booze!) because all I had to do was spend £5 on 1kg of mince and I'd be set for food for 6 meals (skip breakfast) and a fiver for 'emergencies' (usually a night out with some sympathetic friends). This was because I'd slowly invested in tins of tomatoes, herbs, spices, etc. Build up a larder and when you're poor you're alright for food. AND FUCK THE HAIRCUT YOU SILLY MAN
