  1. I've had no experience of using one though I was tempted to buy it at one point but then the GC controller adapter was announced so I didn't bother. I'd still use the Pro Controller over the Mayflash adapter though, I've been using a Pro Controller with the Wii U since day 1 and it's a very reliable pad indeed but it's just that given the option, I'd choose to use a GC pad for Super Smash Bros every time because I love any excuse to use my Wavebird controllers. Yes with the Wavebird you do lose the rumble plus you need a GC controller adapter to use it but there's just something about that controller which feels right every time so I sincerely hope that support for the adapter is added and that the adapter is made more readily available again when the N64/GC games are added to the VC as it can't be long now surely? As for Super Smash Bros I've just got back into playing it a bit more myself after leaving it for a week or two, I love the game but it's just being in the right mood to play it. : peace:
  2. You could do worse than the Mayflash adapter, basically my understanding of it is that it makes your GC controller behave like a classic controller so it will map all of the buttons to the right places just that the start button might be a bit temperamental due to it having more than one function but still, not bad for the price due to the official GC controller adapter not being available for a reasonable price. : peace:
  3. Christmas Dinner It turned out really well this year as we had Turkey and Beef with roast potatoes, carrots, peas, beans, mini sweetcorn, onion, gravy plus I even made a bit of cranberry sauce this year just to see what all the fuss was about. Anyway it was nice. : peace:
  4. Being that it's Christmas I was going to make mince pies but at the last minute decided to just make two large Mince Pastries instead. A whole jar of mincemeat, some fresh/dried cranberries, two rolls of pastry and a dash of Cointreau later... Eeeet was good! : peace: Should be enough to last a few days too.
  5. Today... Listening to this fine festive selection of Christmas videogame music while writing reviews. (Some really nice tracks in there plus no adverts - yet - to spoil it) Oh and later I shall be making mince pies. Tomorrow... Giving presents out to the family, I'm literally not expecting anything this year which I'm fine with as I have bought pretty much all the things I wanted, though I have already had two SNES controllers from my Mum and Dad to use on my Retron 5 plus my brothers have ordered me something but it won't make it in time, so I'll just have that on Saturday, no big deal. Apart from that, just helping out with the Christmas meal, playing loads of retro games - can't wait for Duck Hunt! - and having a good few drinks. : peace:
  6. :santa::santa::santa:Happy Birthday! :santa::santa::santa:
  7. Wait what? I'm confused as this doesn't make sense but are you saying that you 'can't turn off the cursor' in the new Duck Hunt? If so then that shouldn't be... I'm a bit concerned though as to what's wrong with the cursor now - or lack of one hopefully - as I'm looking forward to playing this tomorrow hopefully; so any further clarification or impressions would be appreciated please.
  8. You know it makes sense... ...well unless all of your other consoles are white too in which case, go with that but I just really like my black Wii U next to my Black Retron 5 and my Charcoal coloured N64 underneath; I must post a pic in the setup thread sometime. Though I must admit, that white Xbox One of yours is very nice indeed, I would have probably gone for it if I could have got the same deal on the Sunset Overdrive pack. : peace: Anyway, on the subject of bargains I would urge anyone thinking of picking up a Wii U who doesn't have one already to keep an eye on ShopTo as I reckon they'll have a good deal or two, also eBay though as you never know.
  9. I'm more than aware that the PS4/Xbox One offer more that just 'grey shooters' but I must admit that whenever a new COD game comes out I do find it kind of depressing that even when the developers change things up it still ends up being a pretty uninspired title but then it has the ever-popular online multiplayer to fall back on I suppose. For single player games I still find that the Wii U has a lot to offer even though there are plenty of decent single player titles on the PS4/Xbox One as well they just seems few and far between for me, the last single player game that I honestly enjoyed on these consoles is The Last of Us Remastered which I found to be brilliant; I still have Alien Isolation on the PS4 to play plus Sunset Overdrive on the One as well. This year on the Wii U there just seems to have been more that has interested me on the single-player front, with Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 1 & 2, Super Smash Bros - even if its intended to be more multiplayer it's really fun in single player too - and of course Captain Toad; I'm probably forgetting many other titles too but anyway. Ultimately there is room for more than one console in every gamers life providing you don't mind shelling out for it, it has been this way for a good few generations now - it's arguable that it has always been this way - and I'm at peace with it. : peace: Even though it means that the amount of controllers 'cluttering' up my desk at any one time is clearly ridiculous, it's a necessary sacrifice.
  10. Quite honestly I'm just happy the game is getting a re-release!
  11. I'd say premium all the way as you get more stuff in the box plus the extra storage is useful if you didn't want to splash out on a Hard Drive right away, besides if you are planning on mostly buying retail titles then chances are you won't fill up the internal storage right away but there are plenty of decent VC titles available with more surely still to come. Also as an aside I didn't go with the basic because of the colour, I didn't want another 'White Wii branded console' because it would forever be a symbol of the console that I had fallen out of love with in its last couple of dwindling years; now the Wii was still a great machine with a lot of quality software but for every landmark title there were plenty of gripes too so I just felt like I wanted to get away from that as much as possible but I must stress that this is just a - perhaps partially irrational - preference of mine. Incidentally I reordered my Nintendo stand which previously had my Wii with Gamecube on top on one side and my Wii U on the other but I've since taken my Wii plus my GC out of my setup - N64 is still on the shelf below - to make room for my Retron 5 and I must say that the two machines look really nice side by side; so currently my Nintendo/Retro rig is now all black/charcoal/grey depending on your N64 colour beliefs. ('oh no! let's not dig that one up again!' I can almost hear everyone say...) TL;DR Black Wii U forever! :awesome:
  12. Finished work! I don't go back now until Saturday, being that I work in retail I'm - understandably - really happy about this.
  13. I have numerous copies of Duck Hunt in standard Pal and Mattel published variants, I dug out all of my NES carts while testing out my Retron 5 and yes it would work on the machine plus it would look lovely with the HD filter as well but alas I still wouldn't be able to play it properly without the zapper; even then that would be ignoring the 'death grip' connector issue on the ports for NES, Megadrive (to a lesser extent) plus certain SNES games with the larger PCB's installed. (I'm working on making some pass-through carts though) So having a modern version of Duck Hunt that works with Wii Remotes and various gun shells is an absolute dream, it's something I've waited for a long time and I can't wait to whack down less than £3.50 for it - or free if Nintendo give us some review codes being that it's nearly Christmas... not likely though - then break out my trusty pair of Hand Cannons that I've had since House of the Dead Overkill so I can blast away digital ducks for hopefully years to come!
  14. Both the one for sale from Nintendo Store and Game will have the big green rating logo on the box, there is no escape unfortunately and it's the same for any special edition game that comes in a big box which is for sale in European territories. (afaik)
  15. As if you needed to ask... N-Europe Review A well deserved '10' for a fantastic title.
  16. ^ My thoughts exactly, I'm glad this is a pre-order item from Game that I don't want/need. Besides I've pre-ordered/paid for the steel-book edition on the Nintendo store. :awesome:
  17. Controllers should be fine, just make sure they are official of course.
  18. ShopTo shipped! Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for Christmas confirmed.
  19. Happy Birthday! I hope you had an awesome day. : peace:
  20. I hope ShopTo decide to ship it on the sly as well, not that it matters too much but it would be nice to have it just over a week early. : peace:
  21. I've paid for my order with ShopTo via PayPal in advance just in case. : peace: (If I'd left it as it is then it would have gone on the credit card by default when it comes to shipping time, so better to use PayPal while its currently in credit as this is turning into an expensive month)
  22. That reminds me, I actually have a spare sealed copy of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, if anyone wants it for £29.98 which is a penny less than Game AND you're guaranteed a sealed copy too them PM me, first come first served, Paypal gift etc. Otherwise I'll probably whack it up on eBay this afternoon. : peace: I'm going to really get back into playing Smash more now that I have my second wave of Amiibos I reckon, I haven't played it for a couple of days so I can't wait to get back into it.

    Mario Kart 8

I have to say that I agree, if the game is installed - especially if it was a game released months ago even if it is a fantastic game - then it should be heavily subsidised being that you're buying the console and you're getting done out of a physical copy for your patronage. Personally I'd always take a physical game over a download copy where possible, the thought of proper disc-based games ever being phased-out saddens me, I still mourn the passing of many cartridge-based formats; yes I still love the Virtual Console but sometimes it's nice to be playing the original cartridge on some form of hardware with original controllers. : peace: But I completely get why Nintendo are doing this with a lot of hardware bundles these days, especially seeing as they seem to be having a lot of trouble manufacturing certain items currently *cough*Amiibo&GCadapters*cough* so it wouldn't surprise me if they were having *trouble making more physical copies of Mario Kart 8 as well. *They know the game 'prints money' either way...
  24. I reckon March 12th for MH4U and the New 3DS/XL on the same day which would mean that hopefully we'll get some sort of limited edition Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate New 3DS XL special edition with a boxed copy of the game and a figure perhaps? Maybe an exclusive faceplate for the standard sized New 3DS all for just a fraction more than the regular RRP... or at least that's what I'm hoping for. : peace:
  25. So in summary of the last few pages... Captain Toad is coming out at the start of next year It will be an enjoyable platforming title if only slightly overpriced Most of us will be buying it whereas Wii won't be and that's OK Shall we move on? : peace: There are plenty of other games surely coming out in 2015 which we don't know about which will be decent too - just as this will be - and we'll surely all be wondering why there was so much circular 'debate' about one title. For what it's worth, I think it's charming from what I've seen, it's a game that I expect to last a few hours, have a few interesting Amiibo extras - somehow as it has been stated they will be used - and I expect to remain at least entertained for the duration of the mini-adventure featuring one of Nintendo's most underrated mascots who deserves a shot at the limelight.
