What would it be like if RARE had not left Nintendo?
DCK replied to welsh_gamer's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It wouldn't be the same. We would've had PD:Zero, Kameo and Grabbed by the Ghoulies on GameCube or Wii, which would have made a nice addition. Perfect Dark and GoldenEye, and other Rare games would've been on VC. There would've been a decent DK racing game. Banjo-Threeie would be a Wii game. Star Fox Assault would've never happened. On the other hand, Rare's presence may have withheld the creation of Nintendo Tokyo for DK: Jungle Beat, and may have cost us Mario Galaxy to some extent. All in all, it's a pity Rare has left. I can't help but think they are losing their quality under Microsoft's supervision, and would've given us more reasonable quality games. -
In my experience, Metroid Prime 2's difficulty is overrated. The Dark World and the Ing may seem to be more of a threat than the regular enemies of Tallon IV, and the ammo system may seem to put you in a weaker position, but the game in general was not significantly harder than Metroid Prime one. Except for moments like the Boost Guardian (awesome fight, that), there are few examples that make it stand out from the other two games. Bosses like Chyyka and Quadraxis were no more difficult than Meta-Ridley and the Omega Pirate, and its final bosses were easier. Metroid Prime 2 excels at scaring you, making it seem harder, but its difficulty is overestimated. I usually suck at games too, but with perseverance, and learning from your Game Overs, these games make an experience like no other series. Flinkington spoke wise words.

That sounds rather good. This is an improvement in our treatment, and could make a decent game.

Although I don't like Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Bono is an arrogant arse, I find it hard to imagine that anybody could beat U2's performance of SBS. I can has link plz

I didn't find it weak for not being able to complete it, I find it weak you gave up. You're overreacting - I only subtly called your action weak, and I'm not attacking you personally. Metroid Prime 2 is above average difficulty compared to other games nowadays (which are often easy), but it's certainly nothing out of the question if you have 20 years of gaming experience and managed to complete Metroid Prime 1. Metroid Prime 3 on Normal is easier than MP1 even (that mode was specifically tweaked to be that), I don't understand what's the problem. Metroid is really not a hard series, but the difficulty has remained virtually the same since Super Metroid, while other games got easier. Also, that sales argument tells nothing about the difficulty scare factor, as you must buy it before you can tell it's hard or not. Personally, I don't think you can criticise a game for being too hard - you can only criticise yourself for giving up. The difficulty makes the game incredibly rewarding. I haven't played F-Zero GX much because it's damn hard, but yet I still what class that game has. It feels so good winning a race.

Looks pretty well suited for Wii. Gets my vote.
-
Eh? That's illegal and could be done the other way around as well.
-
Normal is MP3's easy mode You sold it because you thought it was too hard? Excuse me for thinking that's rather weak. Especially considering the part you mention is really doable with some perseverance. The difficulty is actually part of the experience - an easy mode would be without challenge and would really make the game feel worse.

Metroid Prime 3 is easier, on Normal. Veteran makes it comparable to MP2 difficulty, which makes it a real proper challenge. Also, I died there a couple of times as well, but it's really not that hard with some practice. A neat trick is to Hyper and then wait until you're fully corrupted. It means you're invincible and can wipe out the Pirates without problems. Also, your goal is not to kill the Pirates, but dodge them while destroying the Cannon. You should only destroy the Pirates when they get in the way.

It's either Reckoner, Jigsaw Falling Into Place or 15 Step, depending on me mood. Have to hear the additional tracks on the CD too some time.

Olimar is in! Loving this.

Oh come on, would you stop just saying that and give arguments we haven't debunked? I'd say it's a pretty viable option that HD DVD becomes more popular on the PC. Bluray won't allow moviez, and HD DVD is a cheaper format. I doubt it'll happen, though, as the consumer tends to stick with what he knows.

No, it won't happen because it's bad business. That, and you'd be attacking the charm of the game. Pokemon taps nearly everything out of its own charm, it's what defines the franchise. Just because you would, and they wouldn't, doesn't mean they can't be arsed. They don't want to make a Final Fantasy game with Pokemon characters.

That's really farfetched I mean teh Buffalo Man!: It's Jamiroquai's band logo (sort of).
-
If that's your definition of deep and intriguing anything could happen. Anyway, Pokemon will always have to appeal to kids, there's no way they're going to make any sort of unpredictable story. For the same reason, there won't be an MMORPG.

I thought the 'Last Day' was pretty funny, and the rest of the presentation failed terribly. This connectivity is really cool, but people will not use it the way the presentation shows. Hollow BS for most of it.
-
Oh come on, a deep and intriguing story for Pokemon? Who are you kidding?
-
Obviously it's Jamiroquai.
-
It's definetely easier and the backtracking is virtually gone. I didn't mind both points in the first two games however. Except for the Artifact Quest (which is awesome because you're super powered), you always got into new areas.
-
Apart from that awesome last day movie, the whole presentation is just... ugh.

This is awesome

Nintendo copied the Live Arcade Seriously, that is a twisted view on things. For your information, the VC was announced at the same E3 Microsoft announced the XLA for the 360. Anyway, that 5* thing is disputable, and would not be 'solved' by a Pokemon MMO, or any MMORPG for that matter.

Nintendo Tokyo's been quoted to have said they were afraid to orchestrate the music, as it might've cost too much. Goes to show that the budget was really quite small. I'd say 5 million is a generous guess even. Mario Galaxy is not a game that gets value out of its production value, except maybe the orchestrated music. The game is made out of good ideas, which is far more economical.

That's some good picks for comebacks.
