name any examples of games that have been unnecissarily stripped down for Wii? I meant to say this being an experiment, as obviously PES is a never ending series introducing a revolutionary RTS football control scheme. Therefore, it'll probably be the pilot in a series of perfections.

The game's development completion is at 30% or so, give it a rest. It looks fine as it is, it will improve, and the style and atmosphere will compensate most ugliness, if not all of it.

Meh, Dell UK is a ripoff, I can't reccommend buying anything but laptops from Dell. It'll be good for work and some light games, but there's probably more you can get out of your money. What's your budget?

How is a Sempron irreliable >_< ?

I really think Brawl is going to rack up higher scores than Melee did. Melee was a very underappreciated game, and most media have seen that Melee's popularity is far larger than their appreciation of the game. That, and the fact that Brawl is going to be a far more complete package than Melee was, will probably give this game some very high scores.

I think that, if this'll prove succesful, we'll get in sync with the other versions, as well as more effort in the technology department. And, hopefully, an option to use the bigger of the other PES games. I think Konami is seeing this as an experiment, both in controls and in sales, so I'm really hoping this will succeed in those areas, or at least do reasonably so we could have a more perfectioned successor.

Yeah, the work they had made Nintendo say it had a Q4 2006 release (near Wii launch), so obviously it was something substantial. I'd say this huge delay will make a better game though.

The Wii supports Havok beyond the version originally used in Half-Life 2, and seeing the Xbox running it, we're not going to have bad physics. EDIT: The source code comes with the Havok engine, so it's pretty much cross-platform in all versions.

I was talking about the menu design.

Everytime I read something like this I die a little inside...

Yeah, that looks much better than the amateurism of PES2007 and earlier! I really think this'll be my next addiction after Brawl.

It was confirmed to be in develoment by IGN some weeks ago, but they think it's a 2009 title (and it was supposed to be Wii launch).

Now that is actually looking promising! Yeah!

AMD chips are usually a bit faster when it comes to serving, and they're quite cheap too. Semprons and such have Hypertransport, which means they have better data bandwidth. You can buy a boxed Sempron 64 for 15 quid (ya, really!) and it'll be more than enough. Get a cheap mainboard with built-in graphics and some decent amount of RAM, a big case, and it shouldn't total above £100. Also, speaking HD video, it'll only have to send it, not actually play it, so even an old Pentium III 500 could do it.

Don't know what's your problem, that looks quite ace Can't wait to give it a try.

My day really sucked I needed to finish a lot of work and didn't, started studying for an examination and realised that I didn't understand one bit. Feeling quite bad about myself at the moment...

I can't believe they let the Wii slip so far so fast
DCK replied to dannbrownn's topic in Nintendo Gaming
That's a bit of an oversimplification. Because it's a console it doesn't have to provide every bit of gaming entertainment out there. It mustn't snag away gamers from other consoles when it can't. Their expansion to the seniors and whatnot is 'bad enough'. That's only the part of the Nintendo fans that want it because it's on other consoles. Don't you think they should take this widening thing one step at a time o_O I can be considered a veteran by now, and I don't want those things. If I would, I would buy another console. NST is far from a brilliant studio as far as I'm concerned, and my bet is on them developing 1080 Wii. Also, those aren't really great examples you're mentioning. RR64 wasn't a realistic racer, MP:H was no FPS compensation as it was the first game announced, and Wave Race isn't really that much of a killer app for the veterans either. "They made sure" what? Nintendo has repeatedly requested Rockstar to bring GTA to the Wii or GameCube. Nintendo knows they don't have the skill or insight for such a game, and yet you don't realise it. These Western games you mention are outside of Nintendo's scope, and that's exactly why the 360 and PS3 should coexist with the Wii. -

I don't see what's the problem now, I don't see why the Wii should provide in everything. Your wishes are so generic; you want the Wii to be a PC, while it isn't. The Wii sets itself apart from the other consoles (although not particularly in the way intended), and it should. Your wishes would make it converge to being closer to the 360 and PS3, while that's exactly not the Wii's point. And because it's not the Wii's point, it only makes sense that it is a second console for many people, next to a PS360. The only thing I want to happen is that more people start considering their Wii their first console instead of their second. -
Where's Radar Love by Golden Earring? And what the hell, Summer of '69?!

I used to be Dacubicking back when I joined some Dutch forum as a 12-year old GameCube-fanboy. Now older, smarter, cooler and more sexier, I chose to abbreviate it to DCK when C-E became Revolution-Europe. Kinda missed what adding letters does though.

Iwata promised a lot of potential (which is there), and never promised new IPs, although they are coming. This ridicilous suggestion that Nintendo is holding back great games to slow down Wii sales is disproven by Mario Galaxy alone. There's a limited capacity Nintendo has for making games, they don't just burn their ideas on disk, they need to make games. If they were capable of doing any more we would've seen it in the GameCube era. The only business that Nintendo is doing here is keeping a low profile on Wii marketing, that is no TV ads, and frustrating you the most, not making a buzz by announcing future games. It does, but what will all Nintendo's employers have to do in the mean time? I'd say with reactions such as this very thread I think there's a lot of pressure on Nintendo in producing stuff, and they can't just let it go if they don't have to. Anyway, all this doesn't answer my question, as the Wii has not 'slipped' in any way by your description. -

So how does "The console has potential not (yet) being used" translate to "I can't believe they let the Wii slip so far so fast"? Potential doesn't create games automatically, you know. The PS3 suffered from that last year as well, although its potential is different. The Wii is by no means in a bad zone at the moment and, like you're saying, it can only get better. We have no announcements, no, but there are reasons for that, and we all know there will inevitably be some announcements in the coming months. -

Who cares about percentages? I only care about the games I play... Fact is, there are a lot of good and enjoyable games for the Wii, some of which are classics. The fact that there's crap titles out there doesn't mean anything. Also, the fact that you mention the PSP as an example of how it should, makes me question what you're really arguing. Tell me, if you would've had it the way you imagined before the Wii launch, what would it be like? I'd like to see just how realistic your expectations were. -

Although you're right to some degree, I find that post way too melodramatic, and there's an awful lot of inaccuracy in there. What exactly did they promise to you? Seems like you divulged in your own expectations. I mean, weight training for the Wii launch? WTF? Anyway, Nintendo is likely keeping low profile on announcements for next year's good stuff as supplies are bad as they are. The 360s and PS3s lineup may be quite impressive (and a large part has to do primarily with good-looking game = good game), but Nintendo doesn't even have a lineup announced. So before they do, you can gloat at the mainly third party list being at least decent, and stop bothering being a drama queen about it. Lastly, money doesn't just make stuff better instantly. Now Nintendo has the reserves, they can invest, and investing isn't exactly like magic - it requires time, effort and planning. If Nintendo were low on money, things would be an awful lot worse. And that Galaxy statement not being original or introducing nothing new, is absurd. And I only played half an hour of that brilliant game. -
So uhm, what's the decision? What options do you have?
