Wait what?... You can get a 4K TV for £300?
-
Exactly. Games will continue running the same as they are on PS4's. Don't own a PS4K and you'll be none the wiser... despite all the comparison videos that IGN will run. This is a very strange situation though if what @Hero\-of\-Time posted is correct.

Next F-Zero to be called F-Zero NX as a nod? -

@Ronnie A new shell almost everyone spent another £130 on. And no it isn't the same as being asked to spend another £130 on an analogue nub (which could have been included from day 1) and an NFC reader, it's likely something far more impactful, but whether it's of any value to you/me remains to be seen. Also the time period between iterations, and in fact all my examples don't really matter a great deal because they're all old news. If this is what the industry wants right now it's what's going to happen. Just chill out a bit and wait and see would be my advice. That or start looking at trade-in prices. -

Take off your blinkers man! Underpowered because the industry moves so quickly. Ok underpowered IS the wrong word. Obsolete, out dated, compromised. 'OMG Nintendo are so dodgy, they released the 3DS knowing they'd release a NEW 3DS a few years later. 'Screw you Nintendo! Releasing that ugly as sin Nintendo DS and then expecting me to buy that beautiful looking DS lite a year later' 'A Wavebird controller!!??... But I already have a Gamecube controller. GTFO' 'My Gameboy games but in colour?!!... Nintendo you scheming bastards! -

Except that they seemingly are. Every console this generation has been underpowered from launch. -

I'm glad you raised the point that it's seemingly developers asking for this, rather than @Ronnie's assumption that selectively Sony are just out to screw everyone. -
Things change Ronnie. I genuinely can't understand your mindset. My first phone lasted me something like 6-7 years... would I like my current phone to, yes absolutely! but it's not going to. Not only are things not built to last as long nowadays, but they're outdated as soon as they hit the market. TV's, Microwaves, Camera's... I'm in exactly the same position as you regarding the PS4, I actually bought mine after you... but what's the point in acting so childish and hateful about it. It's not going to change anything. Plus, what is it one rule for Nintendo with all its incremental upgrades, and another for everyone else. And it's not just Sony, but Microsoft who may well be considering a console upgrade. PC's upgrade ALL the time and you spend as much money on one as you want. You don't want it, don't buy it. Or trade your console in.

Thing is, this perceived attitude isn't true. Personally I think with the PS4K, most of the members on this board, other gamers and those working in the industry are just able to take a far more considered and reasoned approach to the news, instead of just somewhat childish responses. If you actually think about the situation, it makes sense... and really was seen coming, even if a lot of people didn't factor it in to their PS4 purchase, myself included. Instead of a juvenile post like GTFO Sony, I'm listening to opinions on the subject from gamers on here and people within the industry whose opinions I care about, along with how I can make best of the situation... whether that be trade in, or simply waiting for further news and confirmation. -
Pretty positive first impressions:

Human Revolution is the only game (that I can remember) that upon completion I played the entire game through again and had no qualms about doing so. I even wanted to go through it a third time and get the Platinum, but that's a bit of a stretch. I had the digital standard edition, and then I bought the physical directors cut so I could play through the integrated DLC mission. That game is a masterpiece.

Ok just to clarify. I shouldn't have used the term 'console generation'. This generation was always going to be the one of incremental updates, whether they be physical or digital; it had to be because of the speed the industry is moving. People were predicting before we went into it that console manufacturers would have to update their systems in some way throughout it. 3 years for the first update, maybe another 3 after that... maybe this is the cycle we have to be on now... Maybe the one after this will do away with subsequent consoles altogether and we'll get some sort of digital box which is more future proofed. Maybe the PS5 will be a download/an update, just like our current consoles get updates. It's all unknown and speculation, much like the PS4K currently is. I don't think Nintendo are seen to be abandoning the Wii U, so much as they've been forced to! Even if the Wii U had been successful, whose to say now wouldn't have time for a new console from them anyway. Nintendo got the console wrong and as a result the last few years have been painful in terms of game draughts and them having to go it alone. In a way it's warped perspective; because by contrast the Wii was incredibly successful, but even that console only had 3 strong years in it. That's a bit of a blinkered approach to the PS4K. I'd be disappointed to, but Nintendo have released games that have been N64 expansion pack only (ok that thing was a fraction of the cost... but I'm sure if Sony could quite so easily bundle a PS4 expansion pack in with Uncharted 4 for folks at home to install themselves, then they would be), likewise there were plans for NEW 3DS only games (but I honestly have no idea what's going on with that console... it seems to have been a bit of a con to me). It's a heavy hit, if we feel we need to buy a PS4K... but who's to say their won't be a trade-in scheme, and heck there's always GAME, CEX and eBay!... it's not like you won't be able to get a great deal of money back to put towards one. You could be left paying £150 or something... not unlike the cost of a New 3DS. As for people spending their money on an NX instead of a PS4k... Nintendo burned people bad with the Wii U. A lot of people who picked one up at regretted it, as did those 1 year later. You talk about the cost of upgrading a PS4, but there are people felt they wasted £300 for a long time with Wii U. They didn't deliver on promises at all and attitudes towards them has greatly changed (as you can tell by the mood of [these] forums). People may be hesitant unless the NX is truly something revolutionary. Having said that, I'd be surprised if it didn't have a stellar launch, and cheekily they've now got Zelda to launch it with as well. -

Thanks a lot PlayStation?... You're crazy if you thought this generation of consoles was going to last anything like the length of the last. With the speed PC is moving at, 5 years seemed the max heading into it; I thought this was common knowledge. Yes it sucks. I bought my PS4 last year too and have barely had time to use it, I also never saw this coming... but I can at least completely understand it! It's no 'spin'... no one is forcing you to upgrade. As @Zechs Merquise said, developers are already hitting a wall with these consoles. Maybe watch this episode of Final Bosman talking about it... He's right in saying that comparatively, this generation of consoles are the weakest generation yet. They had to be if they were going to be affordable and not laughed out of the market as per the PS3's original price. Sacrifices had to be made and Sony and Microsoft may now regret it, but with the speed the industry is moving they're caught between a rock and a hard place. -
Yeah have to say he's beginning to annoy me with all his mo-cap. Wouldn't surprise me if he mo-capped himself in Black Panther. Booked 2D Civil War tickets!! WhoopWhoop, can't wait. Want to see Jungle Book!

Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
Retro_Link replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
The Easy Allies have started a second podcast, which is less focused and more about casually talking about games, what they've been playing, going off on tangents, answering viewer questions etc... etc... I really enjoyed it: -
Not liking the look of either from those videos tbh.

That just makes me wish the game and cut scenes had that art style!!

Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4/Xbox One - 26 October 2018)
Retro_Link replied to Sheikah's topic in Other Consoles
Yeah saw that map a few days ago, along with the rumour it will be a prequel. Still haven't played Red Dead, despite being tempted on so many occasions. I guess I always held out hope for that PS4 re-master. A prequel makes me somewhat less hyped as I feel it's more likely to fit into stories that already exist, rather than being it's own separate thing. But I'm very much looking forward to learning and seeing more from it if it's real. If it's fake, it's an easy one to pull off, as every year going into E3 people are hoping for RDR2. That was the Beyond Good and Evil sequel. -
Thanks for the thoughts on IMAX guys! Unfortunately @Mr\-Paul, I didn't realise there was such a varied IMAX experience, and that the more mainstream ones are somewhat watered down. It makes me think I'll see Civil War in 2D, and that IMAX will either be a second viewing, or I'll make my first IMAX experience an event at a proper IMAX screen.
-
So, this may blow some people's minds, but I'm yet to see a film in IMAX. I'm considering Civil War being my first experience of it, however, my reservation is that I want to fully focus on and enjoy the movie. It's the reason I prefer to see 2D versions of films rather than those that have been converted to 3D in post production. However... has this post production process got better over the years? Are post production 3D films worth seeing? Wearing the 3D glasses in the cinema bothers me somewhat. I'm concerned I'll be thinking about the fact I'm wearing them and how good or bad the 3D is, and it will prevent me from being absorbed into the film. But then that's the point of IMAX isn't it, to apparently immerse you in the film? My only experience of 3D in cinema's has been Avatar, and I think one other post production 3D film. But these are years ago now. So say if can only go once to Civil War... should I be booking IMAX tickets, or keep it to 2D?

*Has to stop after 10secs* Yeah the music is bad. The main theme just instantly ruined any media Nintendo put out for the game for me. Instantly I had a negative opinion of the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Retro_Link replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I was talking about the voice acting - as per the conversation. The trailers were very voice over heavy, so I feel I have a sense of what they did in it, despite not having heard the entire game. Tbh I'd probably rather Nintendo just went for it with everyone actually, it's about time, and done well could bring a whole new audience to the game.
