Haha, I was the same, don't worry. I was probably more into football then than I am now. (isn't that a scary thought?) Funny enough, somebody has uploaded the whole England vs Argentina match from 1998 onto youtube. Awesome. Sadly, it's taped from ESPN, so it doesn't feature the same commentary that we'll remember.

My idiot brother was talking on his phone at about 2 in the morning, and I couldn't get to sleep. So, I decided to put some music on, something to help me relax. Most of my CDs are still packed away from moving back home (need to unpack them) but I had Doves - Lost Souls in my room. So, decided to play that. Has to be one of my favourite albums. It's got this particular mood and feeling throughout, like looking at a bonfire in a field: comforting, yet there is something a bit entrancing about it. and finally: My only complaint is that, when I initially bought the album, Catch The Sun was probably the "stand-out" title. It was the song that most people would probably like off the album, it's a song that would go down well in most places. It's a bit more upbeat, I guess. At the time, I thought that the song sounded massively out of place on this album. It didn't seem to fit the more sombre mood, and was a bit too lively. Sadly, after all these years, I still feel the same. The song would have gone down a treat had they placed it on the second album, and then possibly moved Satellites from that album on to this one. It's a great song, but I think it's on the wrong album. If that makes sense.

Haha, I read an article recently that said exactly[/i] what you just said. Real Madrid took Ronaldo from United and bought Alonso from Liverpool. The idea was to strengthen their own team, and also weaken these rival teams. Then, as you say, they shipped out two of their Dutch Stars, Robben and Sneijder, invariably strengthening Inter and Bayern. In the meantime, Real's stars fail to gel and get past Lyon in the Champions League. At the same time, Liverpool's midfield suffer at the loss of Alonso and they go out of the Champions League. United are eliminated from the Champions League, at the hands of Robben. Could've done with some Ronaldo magic that night. So, Real Madrid have been responsible for their own demise, partly responsible for the successful campaigns of Inter and Bayern, and partly wounded United and Liverpool. What a difference a year makes. You can't write this stuff in football.

Haha, there's been some classic encounters between England and Portugal. They don't need mentioning. You're right, you've got it hard this year. Not easy fixtures. But, if you put a lot into those games and get through them, you should go quite far. Nani has been in good form for Man United for a good part of this season, so he could be important for you this Summer. I know you didn't have an easy time during qualifying. And also, I'd be worried for your defence a little, especially against teams like the Ivory Coast and Brazil (not to mention Spain). But, it's football, so you never know what happens. Wouldn't be surprised if Portugal went on a run and did something special.

How much was Sneijder? Around 10 million, weren't it? I was hoping United were going to make a bid for him, but alas we didn't. Inter got a bargain, imo. That, along with the fact they got 45million plus (euros I think) and Eto'o for Ibra. As good as Inter are, it'll have to be one hell of a performance to go there and park the pub for 90 minutes. Against a team such as Barca, who can unlock even the best defences, I think it's asking for trouble. What they need to do is get a goal, preferably as early as possible. That brings it to 4-1 on aggregate. Inter will be tough to beat, but as long as they don't sit back too deeply I think they could do it.

Haha, that's one of my favourite football moments, too. I love it. I smile/laugh every single time. I know some of the Dutch Translation for that. It's something like "here with the ball is Frank de Boer...Frank de Boer passes the ball, its very good for Dennis Bergkamp. DENNIS BERGKAMP. DENNIS BERGKAMP! DENNIS BERGKAMP!....OARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I get so happy when watching that clip. What a match that was, as well. By the way, the commentator is Jack Van Gelder, I think, unless my memory is mistaken. Haha.

Didn't you watch the last one? Not even the final with the now famous Zidane headbutt? I have one vivid memory of Euro96. Watching Paul Gascoigne chip the ball over the head of Colin Hendry with his left foot, then smashing it past the keeper with his right. Has to be one of my all time favourite goals. Right up there with the Van Basten Volley for me.

I'm hoping for a 3-1 scoreline, to take the game into extra time. Would love if it Eto'o got the winner.

I used to love coming home from school whenever the European Championships or the World Cups were taking place. Coming home and having an evening of football = total bliss. I'm not in World Cup mode yet, either. I won't be until it's Summer. When the League has finished, then I'll be in the right mood. That temp board in the past was an amazing idea. Who was the guy I was talking to, when we were talking about Phillip Lahm? We couldn't decide if he was a left sided or right sided player. Turns out he's a right footer playing on the left, ala Dennis Irwin. Haha.

Well done to Newcastle. Going up, in style. Did anyone pay attention to the Inter-Barca game tonight? I had Sky Sports News on and the BBC Live Updates, seems like it was an entertaining game. Finished 3-1 at the San Siro. You can never write Barcelona off, but it's going to take some effort to put two past Jose, I think. They're capable of it, though. That should be a great game, too. Also, James Richardson?! I hope he is just as my childhood remembers him. Used to love watching Gazzetta Football Italia on Saturday Mornings. Italy, Football and usually lovely ice cream desserts were all on show. Haha. Oh, to be young again.

He's a United fan? Aww, d'oh. I agree with Ramar. Very early for this, I think. I've got the feeling it's going to be a great World Cup this year. Potentially some great matches. Can't wait.

The Crisp Sandwich Diaries and other stories
Fierce_LiNk replied to Guy's topic in General Chit Chat
Well, we have to admit that the British diet (generalisation) isn't that great. Crisp Sandwiches, Fish 'n' Chips, our love for takeaways and kebabs. We could do to cut this stuff out, as it's not good for us. Saying that, I love crisp sandwiches. Give me two pieces of nice, thick bread, smother it in butter and layer it with Walkers (Lays, for Ine) Pickled Onion crisps and I will be fat, but yet a happy man. -
Hehe.

D'oh. Meant topless. Haha, see. You know how my mind works. Whip out the breasticles and they become top women to me.
-
Hahahah. That absolutely cracks me up. I love hearing what 21 year old toplessss women in their thongs from Essex think about the Iraq War. It can be quite a comical read sometimes. Whoever thought that would be a good idea is a genius.

Not the words so much, no.

I know what you mean, but I think they always remain exes as well. I'm in the same situation as you, in that I have an ex or two who I'm good friends with. I think it would be accurate to say there are different "degrees" of exes. Like you say, you can have exes who you're good friends with, some you might speak to once in a while, and some that are just No-go areas. It tends to go along with time, I find. The more recent the ex or the amount of time you spent in a relationship with that one, the bigger the problem could be. That's what I find anyway.

You can get National Express tickets for dirt cheap, but the downside is that you can only find the "fun-fare" tickets closer to the date. For example, there's tickets for the end of may which are going for around a fiver, so I'm going to pick those up for when I visit Belgium next. With trains, its usually cheaper the earlier you book them. It tends to be almost the opposite with National Express. 28 quid is pretty good going by train, though. It can cost a fortune sometimes. -

Have you checked the National Express yet? There will be "funfare" tickets closer to the time. They could be as cheap as a fiver getting you to London. I've been to London and back for a tenner or so before. -
Does an ex ever stop becoming an Ex, though? You could create the best friendship the world has ever seen with them, but you still were with them at one point in time. So, they'll always be an ex, surely? It is a tiny bit odd that your friends thought it would be an ok idea for him to stay, so maybe they think of him as your "friend" rather than your "ex"?

Who is your maker? He's very good. I may have to give that a try at some point. Cheers for the tips.

That's actually a good idea. (apart from the threesome bit) When Razz mentioned it in his original post, I thought that he and his boyfriend would be in the same house, living together. But, I got that bit wrong, I think. Yeah, if he does stay around, invite the boyfriend around, too! Definitely no chance of the guy trying it on then.

Girls want us to feel their pain. If they had the option of transfering their child-birth pain over to us, they would, in an instant! I used to have an electric one, but didn't like it. I love the feel of razors. I like pub jenga! I also like Pub Connect Four, haha. Although, I think we may struggle to find a pub for all of us if there's a big group of us staying after the park meet to do other stuff? Nevertheless, it'll be a laugh to walk around London in a massive group. -
The Crisp Sandwich Diaries and other stories
Fierce_LiNk replied to Guy's topic in General Chit Chat
Fuck Yeah, Crisp Sandwiches. My favourite are Walkers Pickled Onion sandwiches. Yum yum. As Ell says, McCoys work lovely, too. I love the crunchy sound it makes as you chomp through it. Medium to thick bread, a big amount of butter and pickled onion crisps. So incredible.
