  1. That's...really shit reasoning. You can't just "pretend" something doesn't exist if you've already seen it and are conscious that it is there. You could just ignore it and vow to never watch it again, but once you've seen it, you've seen it. You can't un-see it. You could just pretend that the Alien saga ended at 3. Or, even ended at 2, if you want. But, you'd be lying to yourself. That's the equivalent of placing your fingers in your ears and shouting "la-la-la" like a seven year old. In fact, it just deflects us further away from the real problem, which is when franchises are run into the ground by directors who know absolutely nothing about the original source material, or just couldn't give a shit anyway. Look at how both the Alien and Predator films are being merged together into one, AvP, and how that tarnishes the name of two iconic science fiction villains. Again, that's pretty poor reasoning. You can't just pick and choose what you consider to be part of a series, especially with something that has a specific timeline such as the Alien franchise and Terminator films. They've happened, they're meant to be direct sequels to what has already taking place and are even platforms for future films. If it's a reboot such as Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes film, then you can put that to one side because it means nothing in relation the original 5. But, these are part of the series, no matter how much you try and pretend they're not. They feature the same recurring characters, themes, it's a continuation of the plot. If you went out and made a rubbish Terminator film, it would be fan-made. It's not canon and wouldn't be considered part of the film's canonical timeline. There's loads of fan-made films out there, some good, some bad, but none of them are part of that main series. There's a huge difference between short youtube films made by fans, and what is intended to be a clear and legitimate sequel to a well established series. Again, the problem is that some films just don't need to be made. Like some games don't need to be. Which is the whole point of the thread. What you're essentially saying is that "it's ok for these films/games to be made, you can just ignore them." That's fair enough. I view it differently, in that respect should be paid to the original material. Edit: Long post is long. If you want to ignore anything I say, please do. This is just how much I fucking RESENT Terminator 3. And, to a lesser extent, Alien: Resurrection. I'm probably going off on one and breaking the thread.
  2. It does make a difference, though. Quite a big one. Let's look at the Terminator series. The first film was a great thriller, where the fight of/for the future is fought in the present. The second film expanded on this, with Skynet sending back another Terminator. We're explicitly told in the film's introduction that Skynet sent back two Terminators, the film ends with closure, knowing that they have prevented something terrible from happening. Now, Terminator 3 is brought into the conclusion. It completely destroys the ending of the second film, including the whole notion of "there is no fate but what we make for ourselves." The future is what you want it to be. It ruins that ideal. The scripting is terrible, the acting is bad and the casting is lacklustre. No matter how much you want to ignore that film, you can't...because it's a clear continuation of the series. It's the third film in the sequence. You can ignore something like Salvation more easily because it isn't an explicit follow-on to the previous films, whereas 3 was. Another example. Alien Resurrection. I loved 3, despite many hating it. But, that film ended well, with closure. When Ripley dies, you feel sorrow, yet you realise that it was something that had to be done, and the series with her character draws to a close. Then, up pops along Resurrection, which butchers her character, again with horrible writing. Again, no matter how much you want to ignore it, the film is part of the main series and is an obvious continuation from the third film. You can just not watch it ever again, but you're aware that when the third film ends, despite you wanting it to end there, it doesn't. You're conscious of that, no matter how much you don't want it to be. I'll reply to this when I think of unnecessary sequels for videogames. Can't think of any off the top of my head.
  3. Title could really go anywhere this season. United look strong, City look hungry, Chelsea will be up there and Liverpool will be looking to win something. I don't think Arsenal will get near it based on their squad, but you never know. It's a shame that Spurs didn't get in another striker and maybe a defender, because they could be up there. I think they'll struggle this year with the Europa league. It's stupid to write anyone off, though. 4 games in. Any of those teams could easily pick up injuries and go on a losing or drawing streak. If United lose Young and Rooney, I'd be worried. Trolololol.
  4. RE4 formula but the settings should be from the original games. Love the mansion in the first game. Even the Train in Zero was great. Definitely cut down on the number of enemies... Snowman: Eternal Darkness is my top game ever.
  5. The fact that the game is played in co-op just emphasises the Capcom have taken the series down a different path. I think it's the wrong one. Four was a good action game. But, as a "Resident Evil" game, it lacks in certain areas. There were only a few times where I felt tense whilst playing it. Far too many enemies on screen at a time, making it seem more of a shoot-out than the previous games. I haven't played Five, but it looks even more so. It had some amazing controls, though. Felt very nice to handle.
  6. I think you have a valid point if it's about the first game, because it's unfair on Norwich and West Brom, who both play good football. The second game however, nooooo. Blackburn are a fucking mess and have played bad football for a good while now. I'd rather have seen Blackpool or Birmingham stay up at their expense. How Steve Kean got the job and stayed in it is beyond me, no way should he be managing a Top Flight club.
  7. So, it was working when you sent it, and they were able to access the net? Not your fault at all. Whatever they download and attempt to install is their own problem. You can't be liable for whatever they do with the product.
  8. Blackburn are the Barcelona of the Premier League. Which would make Steve Kean Guardiola.
  9. Ah, ok. Yeah, I'd personally go with Carroll instead of Kuyt. Ok, Bent can bugger off now, then. Will be swapping for Suarez.
  10. Hahahha, that's a good one. I occasionally like finishing sentences with READ. MY. FAX. Or when you're greeting someone: McFRRRRRRRRY!
  11. Almost in tears watching that. He looks amazing for his age, but its sad to see him like that. The shoes are amazing, but the power laces (alrighttt!) are much needed. A friend and I have a long running joke where one of us will say "Drying moooode onnn! (jacket drying)" and the other will finish with "Your Jacket is now dryyyy." I want one of those, too. I remember watching Part II as a kid and thinking "fuck yeeeah, the future rules." Then, 2010 came along and it kinda blew. Not much is going to change in a few years to give us flying cars. Back to the Future Part II has ruined my life.
  12. Hmm, my hopes were raised and then dashed in one movement. Having Retro on board for much more than just one track would've been amazing. In fact, I wish they'd create their own racer for the 3DS. Retro can do anything.
  13. He's a good player, but I'm not sure how it'll work with both him and Carroll playing with Kenny's system. I haven't paid too much attention to Liverpool so far, but do they play with one up top? I might just bite the bullet and add him instead of Bent. He'll probably score more and maybe get more assists, too. Edit: Phewww! Tom Cleverley has not broken his foot, just suffered ligament damage. Maybe four weeks. Could have been a lot worse. Thank god.
  14. Too late! That's pretty insane, dude.
  15. Hmm, will he be alternated with Carroll(Sp?) quite a bit? As for the penalty, harsh but you can also see why it was given. You're really not allowed these days to put your arms/hands on an opponent in the box.
  16. My neck hurrtttts. I dunno what the fuck is wrong with it. Every time I wake up, it's always sore, particularly on the back of the neck. I notice it more when I try to look down or look to the left. I've not eaten chocolate in maybe a month, so I'm tempted to go get a massive bar of Dairy Milk to cheer me up.
  17. I'm a bit worried about getting shot of him, as he'll probably score a hat-trick as soon as I take him off. Ramsey is another iffy one. I originally had Wilshere, but then he broke himself.
  18. I'm tempted to get rid of Bent out of my team, but I'm not sure who to replace with. I've already got 3 United players, so can't think about Rooney. I'm tempted to put Suarez in there, but Kenny is seemingly alternating between him and Carroll, so not sure. It's a shame what's happened to Tom Cleverley. But, he'll recover and come back strong. I like him a lot and he's formed a great partnership with Anderson in midfield. They both just need to sort their finishing out.
  19. A great result today. Not an easy place to go to at all, but what a performance. The front four of Rooney, Hernandez, Young and Nani just look so good. The downside is that Cleverley is probably going to be out for a while. That's a big downside, considering that this is the first time I remember us having a consistent midfield four playing together. Anderson should definitely still play, but it's a case of who is going to partner him for the next game. It's still really early, but every team will go through a patch where their form will slightly dip. But, it should be shaping up to be a good season. (Go Brightonooooo)
  20. Go and wash your mouth out with soap! Looks awesome, though. Maybe there should be a separate "awesome stuff" thread to funny stuff. I want that jet pack.
  21. Those "scanning" sections were quick tricky at times, but I quite enjoyed the voice acting. That scene where Samus and Adam basically say goodbye is lovely. But sad. *wipes tears* I'm up to that motherfucker Ridley now. I played until about 3am and I've realised that I need some more energy tanks. I've got...six. Pfft. I'm sure if I can get two or three more I can beat him. I'm attacking the bastard pretty hard, but I die before he does. Nooo. Once you get the space jump and then the screw attack, the game just becomes more awesome than it already is.
  22. Fuck yesss, Saturday! Foootballl. Ramsey, Aguero and Bent to score hat-tricks, pleeeease. (for my fantasy football.) Also, what the fuuuuck at Gyan leaving on loan?! At such short notice. Incredible.
  23. England have got a try now. They've looked pretty poor, really, especially the kicking from Wilkinson.
  24. The gym thread is pretty much dead, but this is somewhat related to both that and this thread. I'm trying to lose some belly fat (whilst also trying to gain muscle mass, which isn't an easy combination). The one area I'm addressing at the moment is...sleep. It really is important, so I'm trying to go to bed a few hours earlier now, and so far I'm feeling much better and seem to be doing ok. In comparison to before.
  25. I had the pleasure of meeting Captain Falcon at the N-Europe meet, where he looked rather suave with his jacket. Lovely person, and today he is celebrating/has celebrated his birthday. Happy Birthday, Falcon. FALCOOOON HUUUG.
