  1. albeit kind of selfishly, my mum decided to get a cat because I was slowly cutting myself off from life and becoming very depressed/borderline suicidal. That little cat has been an absolute ray of sunshine into all of our lives. He's treated well, given all the care and love he needs, yet given time and space on his own in the garden to roam and explore. and beanie was "obtained" from a rescue home as well
  2. I like having time to myself too, its nice being able to spend time just fucking about on a console or whatever, just getting away from social overload. worst part of my day: being in a lot of pain/discomfort (again i know) thanks to a couple of injuries (crampy calves and injured quads) as well as just general acheyness - its fair to say i'm not feeling wonderful. think i might be overdoing training a bit.. but thats the kind of thing you meet exercising a lot when overweight... my body wasnt designed to hold up 2x the amount it should... and my p.t has been getting me to do plank exercises >_<
  3. aw those cats are so purdy :3 I just love unusually marked cats, beanie just stood out for me the minute I saw him
  4. We've got a little kitteh, called beanie, who is nearly 5 months old. We're having a bit of an issue with him where the garden has to be escape proofed :P The poor thing got between our fence and the fence of the guys behind us. He couldn't get out and had to be cut out, the dopey thing :P He's lovely but we didn't realise that a kitten would be so much work! I'm thinking that hopefully when we get him "done" he'll be a lot easier to handle and less likely to want to run away! But we just love him to bits and as you can see he is just a wee cutie
  5. black books season 1-3 for a tenner. woo. naruto 360 game, broken bonds. 4gb sd card for my camera.
  6. I've been on Slimming world diet, the Original plan is very like atkins, except you get some carbs in your diet - albeit limited.. I really didn't like it at all. Made me feel groggy and tired, and started a couple of migraines. Bowel movements just stop. My friend said she used to go once a day/every other day but now its more like once a week on SW. If you can stick to it you do lose weight, but its horrendously bad for your bowels.. for me its totally not working because I already have flippin IBS. -- In other n00s i've injured myself, twice!!! Had really bad cramps in my right calf during a workout (enough to make me stop completely) and ive damaged one of my quad muscles. Gargh. The perils of exercising while overweight. >_> I personally think WW is a very good tool for weight loss because you can "eat what you want" but just about everything has to be weighed - and you do start to adapt and eat better naturally - getting better "value for money" eg on the old ww scheme an apple was 1/2 a point, and a mars bar is like 8... Slimming world diet is okay, but as above, buggers up your bowels a bit, and if you REALLY LIKE BREAD its a big adjustment. Its all about salad, lean meat and pasta. http://minimins.com/ has a lot of info on different diets, and lots of support for just about ANY kind of diet. I know that they could all advise you on the benefits of any kind of diet out there. I'm on there as hannata Even if you try as a starter - eat a few pieces of fruit, limit "rubbish" to once a week. Little changes are the most manageable and the change may help you lose if its only a little bit you have to get rid of. That with more exercise than you normally do (and a bit of change in exercise) does wonders. I'm hopefully going to join a kettlebell class in my gym, if they have any spaces! Flippin love kettlebell training, but you really need someone qualified to watch you doing the swings, or else you can really injure yourself. Apparently you can burn 20 calories per minute, but it is one hell of a workout haha
  7. no its definitely 30 every 6 hours. We're only allowed to go for smoke breaks on official working breaks in my office, but I really think that is at the managers discretion
  8. I love how you guys are quoting the daily mail for evidence
  9. of course im not going to say I agree with that... that just being an asshole. As an ex smoker I never would have done that but I still get the attitude from people who don't understand why I did it. Just because people don't understand why doesn't mean its automatically wrong and we must be cast into the pits of hell for liking to smoke.
  10. well mobile phones have been in circulation for over 20 years, (the older ones being massively worse than the new technology) so if we haven't had mass death due to brain cancer I can't see it ever happening now. i'm always a little worried about cancer thanks to my medical history, years of UV therapy (like sunbeds but concentrated to hell) and immunosuppressant/cell killing drug therapies. Actually one of my treatments is a cancer therapy.. but ironically it can risk giving you cancer thanks to it messing with the way normal cell production works. ._. My doctor(s) always insist that I am extra vigilant with checking my armpits throat and all the other signs too x(
  11. You guys are okay now in terms of joints because you are young. My mum did nothing but cycling, she was okay for years doing it, then one day her knee locked up and its been trashed ever since. All it started with was a little niggle that got worse and worse until she ended up in casualty. The only exercise that is truly non weight bearing is swimming. I'm not trying to patronise or anything, I just don't want to see anyone have to go through the suffering my mum has had to... steroid injections in her knee, walking stick, and painkillers for LIFE.
  12. I just looooove how some non-smokers like to suggest smokers are morons... srsly get off your high horse. Why should any smoker have to justify it to anyone??
  13. flips sake guys calm the bap he's only having a bit o fun... whats the harm? ....
  14. doing too much cardio is really hard on your joints, and can leave you prone to injury.. My mother has unreversable osteoarthritis in her knee from overdoing cardio, and she probably only matched what you are doing. She can barely walk sometimes and has to do non weight bearing exercise only... she isn't even 50 yet. @Dazz: i love the aussie one, they are so flippin hardcore. I also <3 Jillian. Fiery and gorgeous :P
  15. 2 hours a day is a bit much surely...? Too much exercise can be ineffective. the usual recommended amount would be 2 maybe 3 hours a week. You aren't exercising properly if it takes you that long to raise your HR enough and exhaust your energy. I do agree though - healthy eating (and a little bit of portion control) + exercise is a guaranteed formula.
  16. If you look at it that way it is pretty absurd... I agree, pubs n clubs should be allowed to pay for a licence if they chose to do so, then if people don't like it they can go to smoke free pubs. Its pretty simples. Keeps everyone happy. -- I just think its rather ironic that people go around drinking, acting like morons and causing trouble, fighting, drink driving, etc but everyone bitches at the smokers. Everyone who drinks in excess is an utter plonker, full stop. I've met a lot of people who have been bottled by drunken people, and one of my college friends had to have his jaw wired together for a year from the damage a drunken loser did to him. "but 99% of smokers are morons" uh hello, the reason you think its such a low percentage of normal people is because YOU DON'T SEE CONSIDERATE SMOKERS SMOKING NEAR YOU. Christ. I never smoked around people except for my friends who did smoke... so as a non smoker you'd never witness me smoking. I agree that it should be banned in places of neccesity like shops and pavements/entrances/bus stops. Totally. And I also agree that littering is shite - but i've seen as much food & alcohol litter as I have cigarettes. Believe it or not inhaling smoke actually makes me very sick thanks to a histamine response. However, if its legal I will still support reasonable rights for smokers. Some people don't smoke in their house for respect of their family, and they should have certain rights to smoke outside if they are not bugging people in the process. You've obviously never experienced asthma or any type of immune/lung response then... sometimes even the residual smoke that you can't smell will kick off some peoples illness..
  17. I was quoting you because I couldn't be bothered to find the original post :P Yeah the roads are crap but it still doesn't make it right if someone is up my ass for travelling at a legal limit. (however I do agree with the 45mph limit being silly) Its nice being close to work, i dont even have to go on motorways or anything, yay. Just one straight road basically >_> what a gip, im being ripped off :P Mines £200 cheaper cause my ma's on my insurance too. I got a pissy little engine with about as much speed as a pushbike.. & I've got age on you too! Flips sake My insurance is £550 this year, hopefully it'll drop more with me being old n stuff :/
  18. Lies i've bought them many a time without question and I don't look male at all :P
  19. I've managed to maintain my weight for about a year. Have been demonic in the gym, but not having a very good diet is not really helpful. I'm struggling to maintain both for any length of time. Ever since christmas I've been a bit lax in the gym too... but then my diet is improving.... haha. My bmi is a pretty shameful 39, just below 20 stone at 5'11. Having a personal trainer is the best method possible for doing whatever you want to achieve fitness wise. Its motivation and ideas that they give you more than anything. To me things like console games should only be used as a booster to a complete exercise routine rather than a basis for it... I find weight loss groups very effective for weight loss, because you do strive for more when you have to stand up in front of a class (even if they don't see your weight) because the rewards are very satisfying. And you CAN lose weight without exercise, but its not as quick and its just not the same. I've still not found the complete "cure" to being a fatty yet... sadly my genetics mean I'm built like a brick shithouse anyway... I've been a huge fan of TBL since it first started showing on Sky a few years ago. Although I have to say TBL UK is bollox compared to the US and Aussie version...
  20. I like them, but i'm more of a fan of sweeter (rather than creamy) chocolate like Yorkie bars or Kinder chocolate
  21. *sadface* Doesnt make one perfect when their lifestyle suits them to not drive. Students don't neeeeeeeeed to drive. Some people do. I'd have great difficulty getting to work on the bus with my medical circumstance (I take sudden attacks of severe nausea and exhaustion), I can't stay out for long periods of time in the severe cold, and I need to go to multiple specialist appointments. I can't justify NOT having a car. I'm glad I don't live there... for the first time today my car saw 60 mph (in my possession) so you can tell i'm not a speedy driver :P I'm just not bothered about being rushrushrush everywhere, and im not annoyed or frustrated with traffic. I don't have to do massive journeys a lot (i work about 3 miles from home) so i'm never in a car for a long time anyway! the 45 mph thing as far as i'm aware is a law unique to northern ireland..
  22. Insurance in n.ireland is very expensive thanks to different road laws my first year of driving was - (female - 23 yrs - 1 litre yaris (group 1 insurance))... £900 and that was WITH price comparison... actually the only company that would insure me. Most UK companies wash their hands of northern ireland =( its dropped to £500 this year and i'm hoping even further next with my 25th coming up
  23. My joints are playing up again sitting on the floor playing the xbox for too long and my ankle has swollen up (where it was resting on the floor). Tendinitis in my arm has come back with a screaming avengance.. so im in pretty poor condition at the moment yay and my O.T reckons i have Raynauds disease. My hands are like ice 24/7, and go completely numb.. which doesnt help with the ol' arthritis.
  24. NO MOAR GIFS AHMYGAWD ... Seriously...what...
