Let’s get back ot then! My first year of Switch was.... weird, I guess? A lot of mixed sentiments actually. I was heavilly invested in the Wii U even though I of course saw its shortcomings. Nonetheless I bought and enjoyed a lot of the games for it and spent a lot of time with it. Played so many hours of Smash, Kart and Splatoon. And then the Switch was announced. The hardware seemed amazing to me, right from the start I was wowed. This was Nintendo making a huge step in the right direction. But then I saw the line up of games and I got really sour; BotW, Splatoon, Mario Kart all felt like ports to me. 1-2 Switch, yeah... It took me a few weeks before I took the plunge and pre ordered it. But a part of the feeling stuck with me. Am I really buying a piece of hardware even though none of the launch games excite me? I decided to cancel my BotW pre order for Wii U so I at least had a game to play on it that I was excited for. But that actually felt like I was making a joke out of myself in a way. Not a good start at all. Then came launch day and I was very impressed with the hardware. The premium feel, the weight, the crispness of the screen, the click when attatching the Joy-Cons, it was all perfect. And then that moment when I first booted up BotW: instant magic and awe. I was sold. But my sour feeling when it comes to the line up isn’t totally gone. It still isn’t. The latest Direct gave us even more ports. Of course I understand the desicion business wise as a huge group of new players didn’t get the chance before. But I am not one of these gamers. I have had those experiences before, they don’t wow me as much as new first party Nintendo games normaly and frequently do and should do. Still I play the console a lot more than I played the Wii U. And that’s due to its portability feature. It’s its greatest unique selling point. And its second selling point is the massive Indie support which is trully great! Enough to be very enthusiastic about the console. Third party support is promising BUT it still feels fragile. Don’t want to forget it came of the back of the Wii U which almost totally killed any future Third Party support for Nintendo hardware. So any support feels like a step in the good direction. But I also remember the early Wii U days. That console got Assassins Creed, CoD, NfS and Monster Hunter for example. All franchises that yet have to occur on Switch and that we still have heard nothing about. I will remain catious with my expectations for now. So yeah, the Switch is giving me more gaming time than I’ve ever had before. Its convenience is something that keeps me from gaming on other hardware. And that has sold me on it. Software wise it’s not close yet to making me a perfectly happy gamer. It’s first party offerings rely to much on ports and sequels, it’s third party offerings look promising but fragile. Indie support is overwhelming. Let’s hope its second year will bring more new stuff for the fans that stayed with them during their less succesful periods.

Yeah I saw that too, I follow him on Youtube. He has a lot of very interesting videos on all sorts of hardware options and settings. Not only Switch but also PS etc. Some options are really out there like this one

Some members think Nintendo is the best console manufacturer there is. They might even think it’s a fact. And they might even continu to argue until they prove this. Of course it’s ridiculous to try and prove a company’s the best but on the other hand it’s very logical that these people will most likely be found on a Nintendo forum like this. There are also members who are more neutral in their preferences. Some things are better on one console and some others things are better somewhere else. It’s also logical for these people to lurk around on a Nintendo forum. And we have a lot of them. And then there are members who dislike almost all things Nintendo does but still like a little part of the company, like for example one franchise or game. These people are also welcome. In reality the members from the first and last group will often find themselves on different sides of a discussion. But sometimes these discussions will feel like an attack on something someone really loves or cares deeply about like voice chat, genwunners online services open world genres or whatever. That’s the moment when things can get out of hand here. Members from the first group aren’t “blind biased idiots” or “the Nintendo Defense Force”. They’re just people with a deep love for the company and it’s products. Just like you don’t have to tell another guy that his girl- or boyfriend is ugly, you don’t have to insult something else that someone seems to deeply care about. As strange as that may sound to some, that’s how it works with some people and it’s something that you may disagree with but you should still respect it and keep it in minds when you give your opinion. Be civil in your your choice of words and stop arguing when you get trapped in a circle argument. On the other hand, this also works the other way around. Some people who love only certain aspects of the company and its products also feel emotionally involved when they disagree with certain things Nintendo does (or don’t). And that’s why these members can come of too harsh or negative to members from the first group. Like someone can fall out of love with their girl- or boyfriend. You shouldn’t tell these people they should stay with their ex and that they have no valid reason to fall out of love. Also a case of respecting someone’s opinion and choice, as wrong as you might think they are. In the end it’s all about respect and being civil. Especialy towards people with opposite opinions. That way we can all make @Rummy‘s work a lot easier.

Yeah, that sucks. Are you using thumbstick caps? Things are cheap and I’m reading a lot of positive reviews about ‘em. An out of the box solution would’ve been better but I guess they went with shorter sticks because of durability and portability?

When I think about console defining I’m not using my lifetime fan point of view because I think that it’s too biased and well informed. I think it’s more interesting what single game an “outsider” would remember a console or handheld for. The GBA and GC (and more revently the Wii U and maybe even 3DS) seem to lack that sort of game in that respect. I’m levaing the Virtua Boy out because, well, yeah... NES: Mario Bros & Duck Hunt: I know it’s two games but they came on one cartridge bundled with the console and everybody knew them. SNES: Super Mario World: of course there’re a lot more great games for it but this one’s taking the crown. Game Boy: Tetris, no doubt. N64: Mario 64: many people’s first 3D gaming experience, groundbreaking. GBA: I think this one lacks a generation defining game. Of course a lot jewels but more of a device for the fans. GCN: Same as above. NDS: Brain Training brought gaming to a demographic that would’ve never seemed reachable. Nintendogs is a close second but Brain Training was more successfull I think. Wii: Wii Sports and Wii Fit second, no doubt here. 3DS: They missed a chance here to launch with Mario 3D Land. Otherwise it might’ve been more of an evergreen game. I think there’s not really one game that stands out and defines the hardware. Wii U: Nintendoland could’ve been so much more. Add robust online, add DLC attractions when new games launch and it would’ve been a players choice game and could’ve persuaded a lot more gamers to buy the system. Switch: I’m keeping an eye out for Labo but at this point I think it’s rhe hardware itself and the diverse library that’s selling the system not so much a single game. Although it helped that it launched with BotW. That game doesn’t make use of all of the unique system features in an innovative way though. Of course due to it being an enhanced Wii u port and cross platform release.

Nah, they’re just adding VC with a full GC, Wii, Wii U and 3DS library, no biggie!

She even has her own amiibo

I find a move set for Box Boy is as easy to imagine as one for a Tetris Block really Change shapes and drop/throw blocks at others, call in sidekick blocks. The last point you make about the Woolly World stage was indeed weak in the video. On the other hands that’s what he said in the video himself as an example. I think he was going on after his Mario moveset point which I also don’t really agree with. I find it nice that some fighters feel instantly recognizable. I prefer the new additions to be in new challengers, items, modes and stages.

Politoed, Pyroar and Mimikyu or for Battle: Golisopod, Alolan Ninetales and Garchomp

It’s an ok video but a lot of save guesses. Though their so called WTF character is a creative guess, I quite like that one Still think Chibi Robo and or Box Boy will take that spott.

But @Glen-i, Turok has DINOSAURS!!!
-
Outside of Mario/Zelda/Pokemon: NES: Duckhunt, Kirby, Mega Man, Castlevania, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Kart GB: Tetris SNES: F-Zero, DK Country, Star Fox, Killer Instinct N64: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok, Mario Kart, Smash, Banjo GC: Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Wave Race, 1080, Rogue Squadron, Luigi’s Mansion, Smash and that’s only quickly from the top of my head

It can’t compete with X1 and PS4 though so it’s the best we’ll get when it comes to ports and third party releases. Of course it’s even better to get exclusives specifically build for Switch.
-
They seem to market is as “the 4K version” so it makes sense it’s not coming to Switch. A direct port of the original would be a great idea though! On a totaly unrelated subject: it would be very cool if they release a Virtual Boy Mini as their VR headset for Switch

Radiant Historia Remake Announced (3DS)

Wouldn’t it be a good idea if they’d continu the current free online model but on top of that offer a premium paid service with stuff like free monthly games, voice chat, clans, online leaderboards, miiverse, etc?

Great news indeed!

It always felt like Splatoon was heavily inspired by De Blob, really loved it at the time!

I’m also in camp “non dual controls”. But heaps of younger gamers (PS1 generation and younger) have been born and raised with controls schemes that I’ve never came to grips with. So there’s a big chance that I need to get used to them someday anyway

I hope you’ll like it better. I like Gen 7, I find the look and feel very refreshing. Could’ve done with less returning Pokémon, especially from Gen 1 like (almost) always with the mainline games. I’m not sure if there’s enough of a change compared to Sun and Moon for you to hbe a totaly different experience though...

The N-Europe top 10 Nintendo games of all time.
markderoos replied to Nicktendo's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I also mained Lucas, and when my friends vetoed against me playing Lucas, I would main Mr. Game & Watch what led to the same thing happening. Third choice King Dedede wasn’t any better for them though so after that they just accepted my Smash Brawl supremacy. Of course the real problem was that most of my friends suck at Smash, Online I would get crushed a lot -
It’s the first FIFA since the N64 days that I’ve tried but I found it extremely overwhelming with al these modes and options. But I guess if you’ve recently enjoyed a FIFA game on XBox, PC or Playstation, €30,- is well worth it.

Almost there!

Maybe an indies DLC pack with Shovel Knight, Shantae, Meat Boy, etc

A DX version should indeed come out asap, and I’d like it to just combine rosters/stages/modes from the 3DS and Wii U versions. May sound weird but I hope they don’t put too many extra effort in it. I’d rather they keep fresh and new ideas for a totally new version after this one. Maybe announce both at the same time and promise a discount on the new installment for people who both DX. For me, Smash 4 wasn’t the best Smash in it’s core. A new installment should add a more compelling Single Player mode. Decisions on what characters should be included should be based on unique fighting styles instead of 12 different Fire Emblem characters just because the franchise is so popular. I’d also prefer they don’t split Zelda/Sheik and Samus/ZS Samus. Ice Climbers was only out because of 3DS tech limits so that’s a given. Splatoon and ARMS representatives are no-brainers. I’d love to see King Hippo, Samurai Goroh, Eggplant Wizard, King Wart, Balloon Fighter, maybe the Champions from Zelda BotW, Tingle and Ridley or Kraid.
