Star Fox has recieved a lot of negative feedback however so I’m afraid the franchise is getting a bit tainted. Same with Star Fox Adventures when that came out. Most critics and gamers seem to just want the franchise to remain true to how it was on SNES and N64. Personally, I didn’t really mind some of the gameplay mechanics being experimental, or felt shoehorned in to show of dual screen or motion controls for example. And with Adventures I really liked the freshness. Even Guard left me wanting more. I hope they don’t loose their desire to expand the SF Universe after the recent backlash. And I wish they would try the same with other IP. The worlds of F-Zero, Kid Icarus and Punch-Out!! Have so many excellent characters in it that beg for some more attention

Wait for it to outsell the Wii U!
-
And on top of that you’re busy celebrating the 80th anniversary of our beloved princess and former Queen Beatrix, you busy lad!

Aaaand a small update regarding the new Mario animated movie that’s being made: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2018/180201.html

Couldn’t find out if we already have a dedicated topic for the Nintendo Switch online subscription model so I’ll post it here. It’ll launch semptember this year with a $19,99 annual fee. Still not giving out important details but at least we now have a solid date. https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/

I know it’s not saying all, and it’s an old article, but: https://www.slashgear.com/mario-zelda-are-not-the-nintendo-switchs-top-sellers-in-japan-06490725/ It was number two in total sales in Japan halfway last year (if the article’s correct). Minecraft is what kids play these days, together with PUBG, Rocket League, etc. So let’s wait and see, third party sales are very important for Nintendo.
-
My guess would be Minecraft
-
Very impressive numbers indeed! I’m very curious how third party games are doing though as that will be the most important factor in getting continued 3rd party support in the future. Especially Fifa, Doom, Skyrim, Rocket League, LA Noire, and later on Dead Souls and Wolfenstein are key titles.

Mine arrived from (Dutch retailer) bol.com, in an ffing envelop... What a mess.... All tears and creases so I returned it and will try to find a copy in the city.

Obviously would love a F-Zero, Wave Race or 1080 announcement. But Kid Icarus, Luigi’s Mansion, Excite, Punch-Out!!, Wii Sports, Advance Wars, Wario Land, Dillon or even Golden Sun, Days of Ruin, S.T.E.A.M. would be welcome. With the release of The World Ends with you, I really hope they’ll release more games from their less well known franchises. And Pikmin 4, what’s up with that? That’s a dead given together with an Animal Crossing game. What I do find strange is that they seem to be skipping a Mario & Sonic Olympics game for the Peongyang Winter Olympics. Or did I just miss/forget an announcement for that?
-
My best bet is still that they’re releasing it at a strategically smart moment, together with the port for Smash. I think they have thought their release road map trough very well to make sure that there’s always something on the horizon. You can also see this with their Directs and surprise anouncements like Labo

Just showed it to our oldest (almost 8) and she couldn’t comprehend what it was from the introduction video. It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll promote this towards its key demographic. This video alone seems not enough but I’m sure they will market it more appropriately in the weeks up to launch.

I also caved and bought Rocket League yesterday. I’m not realy an online gamer and can’t really plan my gaming time so I’m not sure if it makes sense to join the Whatsapp group. now to find out exactly how hard I suck at playing football while driving
-
Ok, I could never’ve come up with what they actualy have showed. But still, I think I was close enough. *insert smug face*

I think we should keep expectations extremely low. It will not be aimed at traditional gamers, or even gamers at all. It will be primarely aimed at (very) young kids. I’m thinking more towards ideas like the Coderpillar, but based on the Switch. Maybe some kindergarten application 1-2-Switch style? I’m keeping Wii Fit, the vitality sensor and the QoL plans in mind. More out of the box than most other stuff they’ve been releasing these past years.
-
A gamified application with dedicated peripherals aimed at young children that will confince them (their parents) to buy a Switch. Just the same way as Wii Fit did with its target audience. Smart strategy as that target audience is the future gaming demographic and is currently very unaware/uninterested regarding Nintendo.

It’s probably the Cat Mario show getting a native app 🙈
-
You mean This one? Around 17:00
-
Wow, there’s so much quality on the Indie front! Nintendo should release a greatest hits with the 10 best selling/reviewed Nindies of every quarter or so. I’d be all over that. And would be a great way to introduce the Nindies to an even wider audience via shelf space.
-
Why wasn’t this in de Direct yesterday?
-
It was also the first online multiplayer game for Wii iirc. It gave the game some extra buzz and most likely some extra sales.
-
My bet is they release Smash together with their online service and/or VC.
-
Yeah, that could happen.
-
Yeah, happy when we get there So, what Wii U games are left that could get a port? Mario Maker, Captain Toad, W101, Smash, Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Xenoblade Chronicles X have a good chance I think. I don’t think New Super Mario Bros U/New Super Luigi U, Nintendo Land, Star Fox, Yoshi, Kirby or Animal Crossing Party. And Mario Tennis is a definite no now. Wii Ports and Fit maybe? And that’s it I think as far as original Wii U first party games. Edit: I forgot a few; Game & Wario, Mario Party 10, both Mario Olympics games, Dr. Luigi, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Amiibo Challenge, NES Remix, Paper Mario, Pushmo and Wii Party U.
-
That would make sense, also knowing the lack of popularity of the sport in NA. Too bad... I’ll add it to the list of great Nintendo (sports) titles that we’ll probably won’t see anytime soon; F-Zero, 1080, Wave Race, Excite Truck, Pilot Wings and now Strikers.
