What song(s) are you really into at the moment?!
sumo73 replied to Aneres11's topic in General Chit Chat
Being listening to some LukHash in the background when I'm surfing online. -
I've got a Windows phone but I wouldn't get this even if I came out for my device. I have a 3DS and Vita, why would I pay for stuff like this? That's not to devalue smart phone gaming as a whole, I just wonder how the company are going forward with this? In the past people complained that Nintendo was not very internet friendly but they are now, just on prozac! Any game which requires being on the net all the time is just plain wrong. Oh and that advert, it's nothing new. Here's something from around 10 years ago in wonderful 240p -

I managed to watch Star Trek Enterprise at least 10 years after it came out so I have no idea when I will be able to watch this. Whatever Discovery is I want it to show a world where Gene's vision is a reality, that we may all be different but through the hardship/struggle and by sorting out our differences, another world; a better world is possible. If I get 15 minutes of every episodes talking about hull plating or shields failing or dilithium crystals needing a good recharge all the time then I'm out.

I made a comment on that YouTube video which I posted here that I think Nintendo are following a kind of 'Just in time' model which is fine but if there is a sudden demand for a product or if Nintendo, the suppliers or even retailers get their stock forecasts wrong this JIT system fails and people go to ebay, amazon and pay for stupid prices. I think they will make the same mistake regarding the Nintendo Switch next year. Shame really.

Sorry, I only saw one (Link) left on the shelves, the others were normal price. However I looked online and it seems very occasionally different Tesco stores might do some cheap deal. Just wish they would tell more people about this. Like - http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nintendo-amiibo-reduced-clear-from-2-50-tesco-stafford-2481132 (posted back in August 16)

Who thought the cable length was a good idea? If it was wireless and had a few more games it would be a yes from me.
-
Went out shopping to get some of Tesco's value range food (money is tight) and ended up with - Link amiibo for £3.75 (brand new) in store. Still don't have a Wii U or NFC reader but never mind. “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true”.

Just came back from the doctors this morning after having a battery of tests over this week. I have avoided going to the doctors for several years which in hindsight was stupid. Anyway, everything is ok apart from I have high blood pressure, BMI is quite a bit higher than it should be this is a worry as I have heart disease in the family. I told the doctor this is a wake up call for me and will try and lose weight rather than go down taking tablets 6 months or so down the line. However this time of year is the worse time to start losing weight but I'll start regardless. I'm not a gym person but I have enough stuff on the Wii to sort this out. I got mine for just 20p more than you (non Black Friday deal I guess) but I agree for two amiibos and three amiibo cards I think this thing paid for itself without factoring in the game that's included as well.
-
Just picked up - Animal Crossing-amiibo festival pack for the Wii U. Slight problem, I don't have a Wii U but nevermind. “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true”.

Forum Round Table: Wii 10 Year Anniversary - The Good, The Bad, The Uglii
sumo73 replied to Ashley's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The Wii alongside my 3DS are the two systems which I still use a lot. The Wii now is being used to stream YouTube videos on my TV and to play some COD games and GoldenEye 007 which are still playable online. It was a decent system with some amazing games. When motion control was used well it really added to the game play rather than being just slapped on. The amount of rubbish shovel-ware did affect the system however. (Ninjabread Man and many others...) It was good to see third party support really take off with the Wii and see companies like EA have their own separate Wii division making games rather than port overs from other systems. Personally I would have liked to see a slightly faster system CPU and more memory available, especially the limited onboard memory storage was a mistake. There's so much I want to say about this system but to avoid a long post I'll say- GOOD - Great seller for Nintendo, decent third party support with some amazing games for the system. More online stuff too. Bigger disc storage size. BAD - Shovel-wave did affect people's view of the system. Limited onboard storage. UGLY - Nintendo's slow decline of the system and failure to learn anything really from it in regards to the Wii U and how that system could have been successful too. Some strange third party peripherals for the system at times. -
You can pick up the new cards from amazon.co.uk (but only for Amazon Prime members (>.<), store.nintendo.co.uk and game.co.uk On a side note, you can still get series 1 cards at £2.79 from argos.co.uk (or in store) which seems to be the cheapest price in the UK that I could find.

There seems to be a lot of love here for The Guardian but I guess that's just reading it online. I read the newspaper version about a week ago at my local library and at £2 it's too much. Some kind of smaller 'i' type paper as The Independent did a few years ago might be an idea otherwise I can see the paper changing how people view it online in the future.

My heart sank when I read...'BuzzFeed'. Sorry but I don't rate them too much especially on the back of "30 questions white people have for xx people" videos on YouTube. I know BuzzFeed News is trying to push itself as a serious new news media organisation but they need to try much harder, the same goes for Yahoo News as well. Anyway I get my TV news from BBC, Sky, NHK, CH4 News and very occassionally RT. I used to watch Al Jazeera in the past too before it left standard freeview here in the UK. It's sad to say that all of those channels have some form of bias in them. Is it too hard to just report the news without fear or favour? There is no point in just watching one TV news channel anymore and I'm interested in how the same news story is shown from different channels. It takes time to do this and most people don't have that luxury. When I can I like buying the 'i' newspaper although I am happy to read most other newspapers. I read the Metro sometimes but I'm not a massive fan of it. It's free however so I can't complain. I don't get my news from either twitter or facebook and have avoided talking about politics on facebook which I think was a very wise move. I read some news from the internet but it's on PC and I avoid reading the news from my smartphone. I used to enjoy the old Wii News channel very much, shame it's gone. I used to listen to radio news a lot more in the past from BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service and NHK but I rarely listen now. Also I'm interested in people making comment videos on YouTube about recent news and in particular people who have different opinons of my own. Regarding video gaming news of course N-Europe! There's some other good stuff on the internet but the amount of poorly written click bait stuff out there is worrying however.

I'm glad that you mentioned the political middle because that's something that has over recent years become increasingly forgotten about. In America the stark view still is that you have to choose between the Republicans or the Democrats even if other parties exist. In the UK at least we more of a choice but when you hear that the Lib Dems want to block Brexit with their handful of just 8 MP's in the House of Commons and with their 109 members in the House of Lords, I wonder if that is democracy? The middle has to stand for something and get people believing in it again but right now I don't know what it stands for any more. Do you? Regarding the media both old and new I don't think any of them really saw what was coming in terms of Brexit or the recent Trump victory. They will be clueless next year when voters in Germany show what they think of Angela Merkel. As with the Jonathan Pie video people said one thing to the pollsters and then voted with their hearts at the polling stations because that was one way they could vote without being labelled a bigot, racist.... Personally the old media still has a place in society. I still read a newspaper but it's not everyday. I try to get my information from a variety of sources rather than just one place. With new media we have more choice but I have to say they are making the same mistakes as the old media. When you have people saying 'The Young Turks' is the liberal version of Fox News then you have a possible issue. For me some of their stuff is good while others occasionally is sloppy in places. Overall journalism has become worse. Getting a story out is the most important part for the media now but checking the facts and making the news article worthy is lost. I voted Labour last election in the UK (previously Lib Dem voter) and signed the 38 degrees e-petition a few month ago to keep Corbyn as it's leader but now the left can go and leave me alone for a few years. Their hatred for the Tories is well known but their hatred for themselves and to those who disagree with them is also there which is not positive. The act of debating and dialogue has been lost. They talk to people instead of talking with them. In the past this used to be true- I believe in freedom of speech but even if I don't agree with you I will respect your right to say it. But now- I believe in the freedom of speech but if I don't agree with you OR you don't agree with me then you are a fascist, racist... -
Check to see if your motherboard has any new updates including updates for your BIOS if needed. It might be worth checking online to see if anyone else has had problems with the motherboard you have just in case. It might be worth running some kind of debug tool (something like Dr. Watson but better) at boot/start up while you try and work out what's causing your machine to crash. Have you tried to stress test your PC (HeavyLoad, StressMyPC...) and if so what happened? Finally, suggest you back up any important data just in case your PC (I hope it doesn't) gets worse. In the past I never backed up any data and then my machine went wrong and I lost a lot of stuff.

I would strongly recommend going through the options within Automatic Repair before trying any kind of reinstalling and yes you normally need a USB or disc to reinstall. Automatic Repair No USB or disc? Have you tried rebooting in safe mode and if so has your computer switched off without warning when it's in that mode? Have you tried resetting your BIOS settings to it's default/safe settings to see if that changes anything?

The problem is we don't seem to accept out people's views or have the intelligence enough to debate with people without resorting into insults or fights. I've seen enough beef with people talking about video games so politics is another level that people get upset about. Just as in Brexit there were attacks by both sides and in America the same thing has happened again. The media really don't give a damn, they just love a story and they are part of the problem. Attacks on gay people or attacks on white people on who they might have voted for are completely wrong. I might not like the American vote but I accept it's results. Democracy has spoken even if most of us don't like it. My gf originally came from a country that still is a one party state, no democracy and no voting and very little voice. You try living in that. Yes Hillary won the popular vote but that doesn't make her President. If the American system like this is so bad then why doesn't America fix it. I would include the superdelegates vs delegates oddness in this as well. http://metro.co.uk/2016/11/10/man-severely-beaten-by-mob-shouting-you-voted-trump-6248405/ Oh and if you haven't seen the latest Jonathan Pie video regarding Trump (How & Why) I suggest you do. -
I watched Star Trek Enterprise for the first time a few years ago and it had a hard job at times for me trying to be the prequel to the original series (TOS) but then again how do you make a prequel to something that was written back in the 60's and make it look and feel like it belongs? (I'm not talking about Star Trek New Voyages or Star Trek Continues here) Sometimes it felt like I was watching something that happened after Captain Kirk and Spock not before it. Watch the whole series and it will make sense however. I think it lacked the feel that Gene had put originally into the series and there a bit of techno babble that I think he would have just removed. I think this is the feeling I might get when I get to watch Star Trek Discovery.

US Presidential Election 2016 - Nightmare Mode

Vote for me because I'm not (crooked) Hillary. Vote for me because I'm not (sexist, racist) Trump. It's hardly worth talking about if the campaign ultimately turned out like that is it. Imagine if you were an American coal miner hearing this. Who would you vote for? She could have worded things a lot better and told people that their jobs would be protected/safeguarded as things transitioned from coal to other power supplies. You only need to watch this video once and take the main point - jobs gone. Those coalminers probably voted for Obama before and found out that nothing really has changed and that things might get worse if they vote for someone who might take their jobs away so they vote for Trump. Then the media labels them as racist for voting for Trump even if they voted for Obama previously. You can't win and this is just one example. Just look at the number of American companies that are now based outside the country. Ask yourself why? The problem I feel now is that the media backed up with statistics is doing exactly the same thing as what happened in Brexit which is degrading people's votes and dividing people at the very time when America doesn't need to be divided any more. Even the BBC is asking why people voted for Trump? I'm sure the BBC wanted Clinton to win but then again I think most people did. Yesterday the BBC showed Trump winning with 'Best day of my life' playing in the background obviously taking the p. I might not like the results of this election but I have to respect the democratic result as America has it. I watched both Jill Stein's and Ajamu Baraka's speeches yesterday and they gave some vision of hope and progress despite what's going on. Elected people who we vote for work for us not the other way around and the American people can if needed get rid of any elected official if needed through the vote. -

The thing is lessons weren't learnt from the UK regarding Brexit. People turned off listening to the political elite and the main stream media because they wanted change, felt ignored or couldn't trust them any more. Of course be careful what you wish for. When some politicians fail to connect with the public that get them into office and become complacent about them then you have problems. My worry is that lessons won't be learnt from either Brexit nor Trump winning and I predict some losers will be in next year's German elections.
