What Broadband speed do you have and what price do you pay?

I beleive that the differences between 720p and 1080p are noticable. 720p and 1080i are supposed to have a strong difference - being (i think) 720p is better for sport, whilst 1080i is better for Movies, Tv and other less fast images. Since i've not stood in Comet and compared the two (like I have the time or inclination...!), I'm only going on information from magazine and online articles. I think there is a justified advance in technologies here, and i'm all for it. As TV's get bigger (and they have been since they became mainstream in the 60's), Standard Def isnt going to hack it. Personally, anything over 28 inchs looks increasingly appalling, the larger you go. That said, I'm not planning to go High Def until a single format has established itself, and when I do, I'll probably be able to pick up a 72 inch screen for a couple of grand.

I beleive we'll see Wii in October. I think we'll not hear a definative date until September TGS, and the a near Worldwide Wii Release (don't forget your umbrellas, that day ) within a month to six weeks - any thunder stealing Sony might be planning will be near impossible to action within one month.

Hidden Wii Pages (Friend codes confirmed)
david.dakota replied to demonmike04's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Neither pages work now. Sob sob. -
Disagree. Everyone and their dog knows Wii is not going to output HD visuals - and most seem to accept it and exited by the Wii-mote. Nebris are likely hiding the content for any number of reasons - rather than the irrellevant "it'll look rubbish next to PS£" reason.
-
I'll hazard a guess the big publisher is Ubisoft. Like Nebris, Ubisoft are European, and like Nebris they're full of Wii Love. It makes sence to me.
-
Play are guessing, simple as that. They also have an 'estimated' release of 25 December. Games are very very unlikely to hit retail at £50 - by Nintendo's admission Wii games will cost alot less to make than PS3's and Xbox's, simply down to the ommision of HD. People might actually make a profit on Wii.
-
A source would be nice. Is there an echo in here?
-
I'm slightly against BluRay - simply due to the expensive manufacturing costs, which would be passed onto consumers at retail. I don't think its beyond the realms of possibility that Blu-Ray disks will sell at £25, which is far too high. HD-DVD will sell cheaper. That said, Bluray will open up the possibility of 1080p (which i doubt HD-DVD will have sufficient room for). I think with both, the problem of piracy will not go away. In fact, if Hollywood honestly wants to curb piracy it needs to close the format - its far easier to find a few people making illegal hardware than it is to find millions copying software.

I've been saving stars since they first launched - i think at the start of GC's life. I'm sure some people have more, some have less. I've bagged a few freebie codes also.
-
The Stars catalogue is abysmal. For those who remember, last year Nintendo had an offer of buying a pre-release DS for £129 + 1,000 points. I can't see why Nintendo don't do this for pre-release games. I bet most people here would spend £49.99 on a game plus say, 500 points for a game a month early. Hopefully, Nintendo will do this again for Wii. I'd sell my near 20,000 points like a shot! IN all honesty, Nintendo could offer £5.00 off vouchers for say 1,000 points. Based on DS prices, that's be a reasonable 5% back. At the end of the day, its a reward scheme so we shouldnt expect miracles, but as pointed out, Japan has some quite funky stuff and we're left with rubbish.

I've read this story on digitalspy, but there is no source there. lets face it, if manufacturers need encouragement to reduce the power consumption - and not slapping harsh bans on standby features. Its SO unlikely to happen, i dont think its worth worrying about.

Anyone else concerned about Wii having bugs?
david.dakota replied to Mikey's topic in Nintendo Gaming
If, by "hardware bugs" you mean developers not getting to grips with the Wii-Wand (which I think you do), then this is more than possible. We are told that Nintendo are working with developers to ensure they make the most of the wand - and get it working properly. That said, i'm realistic and am sure some developers will release game with problematic controls - but then these issues have exist on Xbox360, Ps2 and GC and everything before. Either way, I'd spend no more time worrying about the possibility of a small proportion of games having buggy controls. Its unlikley that many games will have problems. -
Good write up. The Wii marketiing machine seems to be gathering momentum
-
I recall having a demo which was OK, but it didnt quite hit the mark in demo form. PN03 initially looked the most promising of the Capcom 5, bt for some reason never lived up to that promise.

"Surprise!"
-
Could it not be just a part of the casing? It seems way to small for anything else.
-
I must say, and flame me if you must, then Mario Galaxy always looks black. Hopefully, we'll see the addition of individual atmospheres to each planet/moon/satellite/Shard of Mushroom Kingdom.

Its a difficult message Nintendo have to promote. Nintendo are essentially sitting in this generation, but adding an innovative new controller - more of a side step than upgrade par se. Nintendo need to make it clear that Wii is something new and unique - they've successfully done that with the DS. I'm not sure how Wii measures against stadard definition Xbox360 or PS3 - this might be a saving grace, dependig on High Def take up over the next 12 months. At the end of the day I beleive software will sell the system. If Nintendo can get and KEEP third parties interested in Wii, get them creating new experiences and keep a healthy lineup thoughout the year to cater for everyone, then Wii has the potential to become more than a Games Console - it becomes an Dedicated Entertainment Device for the family.

Thinking about another post about the differences in AC-GC and Wild World, it occured to me that most gamers are unlikely to set time to play both Wild World and Animal Crossing Wii. Could Nintendo develop AC Wii to actually mirror your existing DS town? So, when your in you can play in higher def, with Wii featues, on a bigger screen etc, and then when you save you are invited to open wireless comms on DS and download the new town settings - making it possible to play where you left off from your DS. When you return to Wii, the town is basically uploaded for home play. Tech heads - would this be possible? Others, what features do you want to see in AC Wii?
-
In essence there is VERY little between the GC and DS version. However, i seem to recall that in almost every review the main problem was that the GC version 'screamed out for online options'. The DS has this, although, the ability to send mail to other towns would have been nice! I detested the item code in the GC version (a labourious task with a joypad), but miss a few things from the GC town - seeing the postie every day for example! I was lucky enough to sell my GC version for a little under the price of Wild World on DS through Ebay.

Yup, these three games were redeveloped, ground up I beleive from N64. None saw the light of day on NIntendos machine. It would have been very interesting to see how Perfect Dark and Conker would have fared with extra development time and a Gamecube release.

When was the last payment taken? i suspect issue 1-5 will be covered in your previous d/d, and this is to ensure issue 6 onwards is paid

Taken from IGN.com. Surely doesn't sound that negative. Just, as you say "creative differences". Asked if today's news meant Silicon Knights would not continue to develop for Nintendo platforms, Denis Dyack said: "No it doesn't. It's possible that we may do another game with Nintendo, actually. It just means that we've decided to break our exclusivity with Nintendo
-
Jamba, I think you're entirely wrong. Where have SK indicated that they never want to work with The Big N again. Proof would be nice. Denis Dyack has consistently made it clear he has a massive respect for Nintendo, and that he/SK enjoyed and benefited from the relationship with Nintendo. At times he has indicated that more may be on the horizon. Look at the critisism laid out by Denis at Crystal Dynamics (?) over the Kain series - he has never repeated this towards Nintendo. A very positive sign towards the Japanese Giant. SK wanted Too Human to be tech heavy, and neither Gamecube or Wii/Revolution would have been an appropriate system for Too Human. The decision was made to look elsewhere - the 360. Its not about dumping Nintendo, or anything else sinister, its about making a clear artistic decision. NO one can argue that Too Human would be better suited to Wii than the 360. An Eternal Darkness sequel is mentioned in IGN weekly, and Dyack admits to having plenty of ideas but DOES NOT CONFIRM OR HINT a sequel is in the works. As it stands, Too Human is the game that is convincing me to buy a 360 (after price drops etc).
