Goldwatch Blues I went up for my interview on the fourth day of July. First old man he questioned me until I nearly cried, Made me fill in forms until I shook with fear About the colour of my toilet roll and if my cousin's queer. Here's your goldwatch and the shackles for your chain And your piece of paper to say you left here sane. And if you've a son who wants a good career Just get him to sign on the dotted line and work for fifty years. He asked me how many jobs I'd had before. He nearly had a heart attack when I answered, four. Four jobs in twenty years, oh, this can never be We only take on men who work until they die. Here's your goldwatch and the shackles for your chain And your piece of paper to say you left here sane. And if you've a son who wants a good career Just get him to sign on the dotted line and work for fifty years. He took me outside to where the gravestones stand in line. This is where we bury them in quick-stone and in lime And if you come to work for us on this you must agree, That if you're going to die please do it during tea. Here's your goldwatch and the shackles for your chain And your piece of paper to say you left here sane. And if you've a son who wants a good career Just get him to sign on the dotted line and work for fifty years. This story that you heard you may think rather queer But it is the truth you'll be surprised to hear. I did not want no job upon the board, I just wanted to take a broom and sweep the bloody floor. Here's your goldwatch and the shackles for your chain And your piece of paper to say you left here sane. And if you've a son who wants a good career Just get him to sign on the dotted line and work for fifty years. Donovan

Here's one for valentines day: Wedding Song I love you more than ever, more than time and more than love, I love you more than money and more than the stars above, Love you more than madness, more than waves upon the sea, Love you more than life itself, you mean that much to me. Ever since you walked right in, the circles been complete, I've said goodbye to haunted rooms and faces in the street, To the courtyard of the jester which is hidden from the sun, I love you more than ever and I haven't yet begun. You breathed on me and made my life a richer one to live, When I was deep in poverty you taught me how to give, Dried the tears up from my dreams and pulled me from the hole, Quenched my thirst and satisfied the burning in my soul. You gave me babies one, two, three, what is more, you saved my life, Eye for eye and tooth for tooth, your love cuts like a knife, My thoughts of you dont ever rest, they'd kill me if I lie, I'd sacrifice the world for you and watch my senses die. The tune that is yours and mine to play upon this earth, We'll play it out the best we know, whatever it is worth, Whats lost is lost, we can't regain what went down in the flood, But happiness to me is you and I love you more than blood. It's never been my duty to remake the world at large, Nor is it my intention to sound a battle charge, cause I love you more than all of that with a love that doesnt bend, And if there is eternity I'd love you there again. Oh, can't you see that you were born to stand by my side And I was born to be with you, you were born to be my bride, You're the other half of what I am, you're the missing piece And I love you more than ever with that love that doesn't cease. You turn the tide on me each day and teach my eyes to see, Just bein' next to you is a natural thing for me And I could never let you go, no matter what goes on, cause I love you more than ever now that the past is gone. Study War No More Won't that be one mighty day, when we hear world leader say We don't have to cry no more, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go Ain't gonna study, study war no more, ain't gonna think, think of war no more Ain't gonna fight, fight the war no more, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go We're giving it up, we're gonna let it go We will take gun powder to have fun, then get rid of the atom bomb Something else that we can do, get rid of all those rockets, too Ain't gonna study, study war no more, ain't gonna think, think of war no more Ain't gonna fight, fight the war no more, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go We're giving it up, we're gonna let it go The money spent on bombs alone can build poor people a happy home And some good we can do, you treat me like I treat you No more starving in the nation, everybody getting an education Ev'rytime a baby is born, we know hell have him a happy home Ain't gonna study, study war no more, ain't gonna think, think of war no more Ain't gonna fight, fight the war no more, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go We're giving it up, we're gonna let it go No more sleeping in the street, were all happy, whoever we meet Then we all will shake a hand, and make this world a promised land Ain't gonna study, study war no more, ain't gonna think, think of war no more Ain't gonna fight, fight the war no more, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go We're giving it up, we're gonna let it go, we're giving it up, we're gonna let it go Willie Dixon

Every Grain Of Sand In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed There's a dyin' voice within me reaching out somewhere, Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair. Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake, Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break. In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand. Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear, Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer. The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay. I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame And every time I pass that way I always hear my name. Then onward in my journey I come to understand That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand. I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light, In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space, In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face. I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me. I am hanging in the balance of a perfect, finished plan Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand. Bob Dylan

Deportees The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting The oranges are filed in their creosote dumps They're flying 'em back to the Mexico border To take all their money to wade back again Goodbye to my Juan, farewell Roselita Adios mes amigos, Jesus e Maria You won't have a name when you ride the big airplane All they will call you will be deportees My father's own father, he waded that river They took all the money he made in his life It's six hundred miles to the Mexico border And they chased them like rustlers, like outlaws, like thieves The skyplane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon The great ball of fire it shook all our hills Who are these dear friends who are falling like dry leaves? Radio said, "They are just deportees" Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards? Is this the best way we can raise our good crops? To fall like dry leaves and rot on out topsoil And be known by no names except "deportees" Woody Guthrie

Let It Be When i find myself in times of trouble Mother mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. And when the broken hearted people Living in the world agree, There will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted there is Still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be. yeah There will be an answer, let it be. And when the night is cloudy, There is still a light that shines on me, Shine on until tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to the sound of music Mother mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be. There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be, Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. Beatles

Outside Of A Small Circle Of Friends Look outside the window, there's a woman being grabbed They've dragged her to the bushes and now she's being stabbed Maybe we should call the cops and try to stop the pain But monopoly is so much fun, I'd hate to blow the game And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends. Riding down the highway, yes, my back is getting stiff Thirteen cars are piled up, they're hanging on a cliff. Maybe we should pull them back with our towing chain But we gotta move and we might get sued and it looks like its gonna rain And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends. Sweating in the ghetto with the colored and the poor The rats have joined the babies who are sleeping on the floor Now wouldnt it be a riot if they really blew their tops? But they got too much already and besides we got the cops And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends. Oh theres a dirty paper using sex to make a sale The supreme court was so upset, they sent him off to jail. Maybe we should help the fiend and take away his fine. But were busy reading playboy and the sunday new york times And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends Smoking marihuana is more fun than drinking beer, But a friend of ours was captured and they gave him thirty years Maybe we should raise our voices, ask somebody why But demonstrations are a drag, besides were much too high And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends Oh look outside the window, there's a woman being grabbed They've dragged her to the bushes and now she's being stabbed Maybe we should call the cops and try to stop the pain But monopoly is so much fun, I'd hate to blow the game And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends Down in santiago where they took away our mines We cut off all their money so they robbed the storehouse blind Now maybe we should ask some questions, maybe shed a tear But I bet you a copper penny, it cannot happen here And I'm sure it wouldnt interest anybody Outside of a small circle of friends Lyrics by Phil Ochs

Restless Farewell Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend, Be it mine right or wrongfully, I let it slip gladly past the hands of my friends To tie up the time most forcefully. But the bottles are done, We've killed each one And the table's full and overflowed. And the corner sign Says it's closing time, So I'll bid farewell and be down the road. Oh ev'ry girl that ever I've touched, I did not do it harmfully. And ev'ry girl that ever I've hurt, I did not do it knowin'ly. But to remain as friends and make amends You need the time and stay behind. And since my feet are now fast And point away from the past, I'll bid farewell and be down the line. Oh ev'ry foe that ever I faced, The cause was there before we came. And ev'ry cause that ever I fought, I fought it full without regret or shame. But the dark does die As the curtain is drawn and somebody's eyes Must meet the dawn. And if I see the day I'd only have to stay, So I'll bid farewell in the night and be gone. Oh, ev'ry thought that's strung a knot in my mind, I might go insane if it couldn't be sprung. But it's not to stand naked under unknowin' eyes, It's for myself and my friends my stories are sung. But the time ain't tall, Yet on time you depend and no word is possessed By no special friend. And though the line is cut, It ain't quite the end, I'll just bid farewell till we meet again. Oh a false clock tries to tick out my time To disgrace, distract, and bother me. And the dirt of gossip blows into my face, And the dust of rumors covers me. But if the arrow is straight And the point is slick, It can pierce through dust no matter how thick. So I'll make my stand And remain as I am And bid farewell and not give a damn. Lyrics by Bob Dylan

I clicked on 'post reply' and was going to post 3 of my wishes yet now I'm here I can't think of anything. I don't wan't want money or anything like that. I don't want to be famous, I don't want to have a big house or car. The only thing I guess would be to find someone I love and stay with them.

Thought this'd be a good place for people to post the lyrics that mean something to them or say something or just lyrics that they like. (I know I called it lyrics of the day but that's just cus it sounded snappy) I'll start off: Universal Soldier He's five feet two and he's six feet four He fights with missiles and with spears He's all of 31 and he's only 17 He's been a soldier for a thousand years He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an atheist, a Jain, a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew and he knows he shouldn't kill and he knows he always will kill you for me my friend and me for you And he's fighting for Canada, he's fighting for France, he's fighting for the USA, and he's fighting for the Russians and he's fighting for Japan, and he thinks we'll put an end to war this way And he's fighting for Democracy and fighting for the Reds He says it's for the peace of all He's the one who must decide who's to live and who's to die and he never sees the writing on the walls But without him how would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau Without him Caesar would have stood alone He's the one who gives his body as a weapon to a war and without him all this killing can't go on He's the universal soldier and he really is to blame His orders come from far away no more They come from him, and you, and me and brothers can't you see this is not the way we put an end to war. Lyrics by Buffy Sainte-Marie

Speak for yourself I liked 'em. And they're 'spoilered' anyway so you don't have to read them. And kudos to 'weeyellowbloke' that joke was great

Is this in all ASDA stores? Will they be in on Saturday morning? If so I might be joining the elite of people already playing the Wii. Fingers crossed : peace:

Well, sometimes you can't see him so good, When he hides his head in his snow white hood, And rides to kill with his face well hid And then goes home to his wife and kids. Wonder if his kids know who he is? Well, he wants you to hate, he wants you to fear, He wants you to fear something that's not even there, He'll give you your hate, he'll give you his lies, He'll give you the weapons to run out and die. And you give him your soul.

I didn't think it was racist at all. The only racist people are those who think Jade was racist. When I saw BB I didn't recognise Jade/Shilpa's disagreement as racially motivated until the next day all the papers said it was, has anyone considered that it's just cus she didn't like shilpa?

Bob Dylan - Things have changed 'People are crazy and times are strange I'm locked in tight and out of range I used to care but things have changed'

The funniest thing is just that he'll say the most unexpected things. Most funny people you can tell when a punchline is coming and it's a joke you'd expect. With karl out of nowhere he'll say something incredibly funny. He can't be faking it. Exaggerating maybe

The GAME in Reading Oracle said they weren't letting people pre-order? Seems strange to me but oh well. This was where they had 50 consoles go in a couple of hours so I imagine it's due to limited stock. Think I'll wait till half term (3 weeks) before I try again (though I imagine I'll have some AS coursework to do so who knows)
