in before the lock!

I'll laugh a lot. Then I'll cry some as I'm really hoping it will appear!

Guitar Hero, like Mario Kart, is a class example of the so called "bridge title". All sorts of different people buy those games but for different reasons. Some people just play MKcasually with mates but then some people are trying to crack the high score rankings. Same thing with GH. They're multi-layered so that they can appeal to the widest demographic possible and thus increase sales. It's no coincidence that those two games have sold shed loads. articulated much better maybe :p

I think games in general have come a long way since 2000 tbh, it's just we find it harder to see. Platformers are the perfect example of a stagnant genre. I'm not really sure why they've gone out of fashion either, a bit of a strange one. FPS on the other hand has come on leaps and bounds. I would argue one of the most improved genres in recent years. We talk a lot about using the wii mote for immersion but modern shooters really show us that graphics can be incredibly immersive aswell. The progress in the online multiplayer, whilst the most important, is also the most obvious improvement. But compare the single player of, for example, Call of Duty 1 with Call of Duty 4. Massive improvement in my opinion.

My fucking god. That guy has my respect.

Just listening to some of the music tracks, on youtube not on brawl itself. This stuff is truly awesome. The Zelda remixed theme is just amazing as is the orchestral version of the Starfox theme. And the Ocarina medley! Seriously, with this stuff and Galaxy Nintendo really are the kings of game music atm. So many memories being evoked here! Brawl for best soundtrack ever tbh.

Welcome to Nintendo's match-making service! That's perfectly normal I'm afraid. Sometimes you get lucky and it's quicker but there's always a bit of a wait.

That's not a sarcy comment aimed to both discredit and belittle me and my argument? Masked exceptionally well if it's not.

Again Hellfire, you failed to read my post. Let me break down my argument into bullet points since you can't manage prose. - When I was playing games like Soul Calibur I was in my early teens. - When I was in my early teens it was much easier to get lots of friends round all the time to play against because we all had less commitments. - I enjoy playing against other people. I don't enjoy playing against NPCs. -Since it is now less easy to gather round friends to play games I rely on online gaming to enjoy competitive games, such as a fighter, for extended periods of time. Understand yet?

You might not care. But I do. Why would I be worried about reviews? I'll talk to you how I please tbh, you take the same courtesy with everyone else. Where did I state that any game without online is short? Have fun finding that quote. For those that can read, what I did state is that this particular game and, in my view, fighters in general are short without online. Comparisons to the old Soul Calibur games are pointless. Standards have changed now. I'm no longer satisfied just fighting against NPCs. If you guys are then fine, that's your call. I'm also a lot older and it's less practical to have friends round all the time to play against. It's fun when it happens but part of that is because it's more of a "special occasion" these days than it was when I was a kid. Online is a necessity for this sort of game, as it is for all "competitive games" in this day and age. I want leaderboards. I want a thriving community, which is certainly less feasible when you can't play eachother. I basically want competition from games like this. The game may well be awesome but without online I wouldn't have purchased it because I simply wouldn't get any decent play time out of it and that's an important factor to me. I'd even rather play a slightly worse game with online than one without. As for the online fighters can't work rubbish, I'm not even sure that justifies a reply. It IS without a shadow of a doubt possible to create a lag free fighter. In the same way it is possible to create lag-free games. Fighters are nothing special. Dead or Alive on the 360 is fine, as is Street Fight 2. Smash is screwed up because of nintendo's shitty netcode but even then we manage lots of lag free games between ourselves on N-Europe.
-
That's true but unfortunately being "good" is not enough. Reviews often take into account something called longevity and if there's no online it has no longevity, for me at least. So it may as well suck since I won't buy it either way. Simple logic doesn't always suffice.

Online. Gives this a fighting (haha, get it!?) chance!

Valve have said that yes but then EA said otherwise. It's difficult to say exactly how much power EA have over Valve. My gut says not that much since Valve wouldn't have signed up if they were going to lose any autonomy. I wouldn't rule it out completely though. There's nothing preventing an Orange Box 2 with Left 4 Dead bundlded with Episode 3. I suspect Valve have something up thier sleeves, or perhaps a budget release for Left 4 Dead. It doesn't seem to have enough content to justify a full price release and Valve are always conscious of giving gamers good value.

WWF No Mercy was/is my favourite wrestling game of all time! Man the hours I sunk into the game, it was insane. So much better than Smackdown! This event is really making me wish that I still had my old N64. Bring on the WiiWare version even if we ominously haven't heard anything about it in ages.

What was 'wrong' with Twilight Princess?

As far as I'm concerned Hellfire, say what you like. Nothing offends me but at the same time if you post something I completely disagree with I am likely to challenge it. No big deal, that's what forums are for. As you were. -

I'm sorry, but if you think that none of the characters stand out in Baldurs Gate or even NWN then you don't know what decent character development is. Now I LOVE Zelda. I appreciate the particular nintendo, and to some extent Japanese, charm that it has. However, to say that the characters in Baldurs Gate were dull is an impossible claim. They may not be to your particular tastes and that's absolutely fine. But they're beautifully written, much better than anything in any Zelda game, and extremely memorable. Anyone whos played Baldurs Gate surely couldn't have forgotten the slightly insane Minsc? Or the relationship between the player and Imoen. And even the relationship between Khalid and Jaheria to which you are only a spectator. Zelda does a lot of things better than any other games. The combat, whilst basic, feels fun. The worlds are charming if basic. The plots are usually engaging and in TP's case also rather epic though less so than more "hollywood" games such as Oblivion. What Zelda does not do better than most RPGs is deep characters and complex relationships between NPCs. It doesn't try to because it would not play well with the younger audience which forms a part of Zelda's targetted demographic. -
Someone please play Glover! What an underrated little gem.

You're not giving modern AI enough credit here. Ten different attack patterns is extremely achievable. Bosses are a little bit out of fashion but if you look at the enemy AI in say CoD 4, HL2 or something similar it's outstanding these days. I still don't think the Wii is a technical limitation as such but nintendo are not exploiting this aspect to it's fullest. As with the games themselves the bosses in modern Zeldas are just easier. -
The cut scenes are awesome but I still couldn't help but feel that they would be better with some speech. That's not gona happen I know, this is nintendo world. Apart from the that I've found SSE, on the whole, to be a real chore. It's just boring. I'm only playing it to unlock chracters then I'll hopefully never have to touch it again.

How cheap are the tests? I'd bloody love to go to the race but can't forsee myself being able to afford it next year, masters are expensive! doh. Though by 2010 my man Jenson might actually be able to get into the top 8!

I don't normally bother with this sort of thread, usually a load of kids proving that they are all grown up (no offence :p) but I've just got back from an extended period in Amsterdam - Dommelsch beer is absolutely gorgeous!

I'll be losing my virginity this Saturday...Any tips?

What a thread, wish I'd checked it sooner. My one piece of last minute advice is important.... Do not go down on her! Not cool on the first time, some girls don't like it anyway (at this age at least - I reckon most older ladies do simply coz they're more willing to try things) -
Just play Diablo 2. So much better than the original.
-
As for Jigglypuff - they've massacred the poor thing. She/it was so awesome in melee. EDIT: Anyone else having trouble finding opponents on random WiFi? I found one and played one Thursday morning, not been able to find anyone for the last two days. Really wierd.

lol at the monkey advert further up in this thread. Hilarious, the dad is loving it WAY too much though. :p If I do get this, which isn't likely, there's no way I'd use those stud maraca attachments!
